One of my best experiences in Colorado, if your a loner like me . Don’t be scared to go alone! You can have fun with or without friends, So don’t let having a group stop you. My tour guide had to be one of the best parts, there wasn’t a question he couldn’t answer. He was so talented I had to give him a tip for going above and beyond . He broke a piece of pyrite out of the vein for me to keep to! I’m 28 years old and love every second of it . I went at 11 on a wed and wasn’t busy , just i and 2 older couples .

I don’t have a particular interest in mining, but I found this tour informative and interesting. It was an easy walk into the tunnel, albeit a little chilly and muddy. No one else had booked when we went, so we essentially got a private tour. We had the chance to use a pick-axe, as well as keep any rock fragments that came out of our hard labour. At one point, the lights and the precious solitary candle will go out, engulfing you in complete darkness. You can take photos, but no flash. There is also a photo opportunity at a well-lit portion of the tunnel. If you get to the site early, it may look abandoned. We initially couldn’t find anyone around, but our tour guide eventually showed up about 5 minutes beforehand. Note that there is only a portable toilet on site. $30 is a bit more than what I would’ve liked to spend per person, but if you’re an enthusiast, it might be well worth it to you.

Excellent gold mine tour! The tour guide we had was wonderfully informative, great with our large group of kiddos, and made the experience a fun time. This tour was unique and different from others and focused more on the mining process, history of the mine, and how to identify mineral veins. The kids loved picking out a rock from inside the mine to smash open at the end of the tour. Very friendly and welcoming staff and we even got to speak with the owner for a bit at the end and asked him mining questions. We had a group of 14 total people and the tour lasted an hour. Great price for the quality of the tour!

Amazing tour! Local guide that was passionate about the mine and had extensive knowledge of both the history of the mine itself, the reopening efforts he’s been part of, and the local community of folks doing the same. Learned way more than I expected and was engaged the entire time. I’d happily recommend to anyone visiting the area!

What a sensational tour of this active gold mine!!! I can't imagine a more interesting experience, and it speaks to the knowledge of the staff and fascinating context of the mine itself. I am a geologist and can speak to the level of detail, technical nature, and comprehensiveness of this tour. Paul did a fantastic job briefing us on the mine's history and techniques in the mining industry in general. Can't recommend this tour enough!

Enjoyed this tour a lot. Rusty, our guide, was very thorough. He answered all of our questions and was honest about things he was unsure about. We liked that this mine is not highly commercialized and it felt like a modern running mine that has been running for over a century. We would encourage everyone to stop in and tour this mine. We will definitely be back with the kids!

A spur of the moment tour we decided to take and it was great! Paul was super friendly, humorous, and knowledgeable. Experiencing what a candle lit mining tunnel was like back in the day was crazy, learning how it was done, and showing us how the equipment was used then and now was awesome, and getting to mine some ore personally was just super cool. All in all I'd definitely recommend going if you have the chance! 10/10

My husband and I went to this gold mine tour last minute on a Sunday at 3pm. We were the only ones there at this time but it was actually such a great experience! Rusty, our tour guide, did such a good job explaining the mine and how they get the gold, etc. He was very sweet and made us laugh which we can always appreciate! We highly recommend this place and Rusty! We also got to leave with our own little piece of “gold”. Ps. Watch out for the tommyknockers!!

Very informative and a great tour for any age, especially those curious about gold and the mining world. Tour guides are knowledgeable and friendly. I would recommend closed-toe shoes since the mine has some muddy areas.

Great tour! Super informative. It was an easy, flat walk into the mine. Our 2yo made it most of the way in on his own. We really enjoyed the history and information.

Incredible experience and very knowledgeable tour guide. Greg’s family has owned this mine for nearly 30 years. He knew the history of the mine itself as well as the current goings on. Amazing time!

This was an excellent experience, and my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed it. While we've toured other caves before, this visit to an active gold mine added an interesting twist - it was fascinating learning the old vs more modern techniques of gold mining and how this mine in particular currently extracts precious metals. Big shoutshout to our guide, Paul, who was both entertaining and adept at explaining things in a way that was easy to grasp. It was also really cool having someone who actually works in the mines giving us a tour. Booking this tour on a whim turned out to be a fantastic decision for us – no regrets whatsoever.

We decided to stop by on our way home from Breckenridge and it ended up being a highlight of the trip! Paul was so knowledgeable and friendly and answered all of our questions and led the tour in such an interesting, entertaining way. Absolutely worth every penny- a truly incredible experience!

It was a great tour! Very informative and interactive. Our tour group was small, 4 people plus our guide. Could be super cool for kids! We plan on going back with my niece and nephew, they will love it.

So good!!! Paul was so very informative in such an entertaining and interactive way. We went for our 12 year olds birthday because he is into gold panning. There was such great history about the area, the gold rush, how the gold is extracted, and so much more. Our son has a deeper appreciation for gold panning for sure! We only waited for 10 minutes because we were early and they just were not there yet. In the winter, it's not as busy, so although reservations may not be necessary, it's probably good for them to know. Summer/Fall season I would definitely recommend reservations. This is a must do in Colorado!

Best mine tour! How amazing to see the process in action and experience a bit of "crazy miner" life. Staff is amazing and provided some toy boats to entertain my boys since we were early. Will definitely return!

My fiancee and I loved our tour! It was super cool going into the mountain in an active mine to see how it all works. Our tour guide was very informative and friendly! We would definitely recommend this place for a unique adventure

What a fun and informative tour! Daniela was an excellent guide, and we all had fun, from the 2.5 year old to the adults! Such a unique experience.

Super cool tour and Paul was a great and knowledgeable tour guide. Lots of hands on opportunities to see what it was like to be a miner. Also cool to be in a mine that is still operating. Overall a great experience and I recommend anyone and everyone go and see this mine.

This was a fun way to learn about Colorado history and see some gold! Daniela was a wonderful guide. Perfect low-key activity following a strenuous hike the day before. We were two adults and found it enjoyable!

The Capital Prize Mines tour is great. Learn about Colorado's mining past and present in a mine operating today. Go down under the mountain right on the edge of Georgetown. The tour isn't too long or too short and works well for young ones. Highly recommended.

Super cool tour. My wife and I loved it. Couldn't recommend it enough. They turn the lights off to show you how dark it would be without lights. Scary but also amazing.

The tour guide was very knowledgeable and amazing. She told us a lot about mining and history of town. I learned a lot. We were able to see a few real gold veins. I highly recommend to visit this mine.

Our family really enjoyed this tour with our 11 and 9-year-old children. Everyone on the tour was able to pick a chipped rock from the tour, but only the children were able to actually mine.I would recommend this to everyone!
