The fort is beautiful. If you are a lover of heritage places, this one is for you. The car drops you at the parking and from there either you have to walk or hire a local auto rickshaw. Cars etc are not allowed inside. The fort requires a lot of walking, including walking steep inclines. While walking you can find many maheshwari saree shops and handbooks where they are being manufactured. Plan it during evenings when walking is easier due to sunset. The fort houses ghats to River Narmada and during sunset it offers you a mesmerizing view of the river. Maheshwar requires a full day if you want to see the whole fort and enjoy the activities at the ghats.

Fort is situated in Khargone City and on the banks of Kunda River. Fortification and bastion remains. Many government buildings inside fort. Famous ancient Temples in 'Un' village near this fort.

Ahilya Fort Maheshwar (madhay Pardesh) Ahilya Fort, in the central Indian town of Maheshwar, sits high above the sacred river Narmada. Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar ruled here from 1765 to 1796 and built Ahilya Wada, her personal residences, offices, and darbaar audience hall, within the fort. In the year 2000, Prince Richard Holkar, her descendant and son of the last Maharaja of Indore, converted his home in Ahilya Wada into a guest residence, today known around the world as the Ahilya Fort Hotel.
