One if the finest forts I have seen. Well preserved. Lots of walking but worth every bit. ASI and MTDC have done a wonderful job of cleanliness. 1. Recommend going early. They open by 6am 2. Make sure you hire a guide. As exploreing yourself would be difficult. 3. Make sure you go to the top at least till the ganesh temple. 3. Carry caps / umbrella and water bottle.

Awesome historic architecture one should not miss to visit and understand the thought behind its design. Nicely maintained with least modifications. One can get decent parking facility, food and water outside the campus. It takes a whole day to properly sight the fort.

Devgiri fort is good to visit for those interested in it's vibrant history. It is very important also due to Janardan Swami's cave where he had Darshan of Lord Dattatreya 🙏

Awasome place. You will find the history of centuries. It is better to come here at the first morning, because you have to rise almost 200 metre to go to the top of the fort. The biggest canon is on the top. Must come with water and some dry food because if you enter once, you will not find any food. But keep clean the fort premises.

Fort is huge. And the climb is great. Kids and elderly need to be extra careful. Climb gets difficult as you reach on top.

It is one of the best-preserved places of heritage in Maharashtra, and also one of the best Aurangabad tourist places. The historical triangular fort of Daulatabad was built by Yadava king Bhillama V in 1187 AD. It is one of the best historical places near Pune. The city was then called 'Deogiri', meaning the hill of gods. Daulatabad or 'the abode of wealth' was the name given by Muhammad-bin-Tughlaq when he made his capital here in 1327 AD. The region and the fort passed on into the hands of Bahamani rulers under Hasan Gangu in 1347 AD and Nizam Shahis of Ahmednagar in 1499 AD. Daulatabad became the capital of the Nizam Shahi dynasty in 1607 AD. The fort passed several hands, captured and re-captured by the Mughals, Marathas, Peshwas, and finally placed under the control of the Nizams of Hyderabad in 1724 AD till independence. It is one of the most visited places as part of Aurangabad tour packages. Daulatabad Fort was one of the most powerful forts during the medieval period. Built on a 200 m high conical hill, the fort was defended by a moat and a glacis. The fortifications comprise three encircling walls with bastions at regular intervals. The moat is 40 feet deep with mechanical drawbridges and filled with crocodiles. The entire fort complex consists of an area measuring approximately 94.83 hectares. The combination of hill and the land fort is divided into small sectors encircled by fortification walls. The fortified Ambarkot is planned for common people. Mahakot area having four distant lines of enclosure walls served the residential area for the higher class of the society. The Kalakot is the royal residential area with a double line of fortifications. The fort was enlarged and structures were added subsequently as the fort passed on from one hand to the other. It consists of structures like stepped wells, Kacheri (Court) building, Bharat Mata Temple, Hathi haud, Chand Minar, Aam Khas, Royal Hammam, Chini Mahal, Rang Mahal, Andheri, Baradari, water cisterns, and 10 unfinished rock-cut caves belonging to the Yadava period. Chand Minar is a soaring tower inside the Daulatabad Fort, which rises to a height of approximately 30 m. It was erected in 1447 AD by Ala-ud-din Bahmani to commemorate his capture of the fort. The four-storied tower was adorned with glazed tiles and carved motifs. It is believed that Chand Minar was used as a prayer hall or a victory monument in earlier times. Baradari was the favorite summer residence of the Mughal emperors. Devagiri is on the outskirts of Aurangabad. There are many buses, cabs and autos are available from Aurangabad to Daulatabad Fort. It takes 3 hours to visit major parts of the fort. There is lot of walking/trekking inside the fort and is suitable for physically active visitors. Timings: 9 AM to 6 PM. Entry Fee: Rs. 10 for Indians and Rs. 100 for Foreigners

Huge crowd in the ticket counter, counter asking for correct change amount in cash (25 rs for adult, Rs.300 for foreigners). Options are available on online payments through scanning. But the online scan are not working due to some issues. The huge crowd dispersed in the inside big areas. Lot of monkeys are inside the campus. Young adults creating fun with these monkeys. Water bottle are not allowed inside, if you are taking with you, deposit rs.20 and take with you. While returning, we can refund.

This fort is truly unique. I have never seen such a fort before. You'll find many weapons to see here, and the two main attractions are a maze-like path and a bridge that takes you inside the fort. Below that bridge used to live crocodiles, and whenever enemies approached, they would disconnect the bridge from the fort. It takes around 45 minutes to climb up, and I highly recommend you to visit it.

Located 15 km away from the main city of Ch.Sambhaji Nagar, ( Aurangabad) Daulatabad Fort is an ancient fortification that rises formidably from the midst of verdant greenery. Often hailed as one of the 'seven wonders of Maharashtra', this architectural marvel is believed to have been built in the 12th century. Also known as Devgiri fort, perhaps the most enchanting qualities is its location, from the zenith of which you can capture a mesmerising view of the entire city. You need to hike some 750 odd steps up to the top, but the view down below is a wonderful thing to behold.

Devagiri Fort is one of the few Bhuikot forts in Maharashtra. The design and construction of this fort must have been done from time to time according to the changes in the needs of warfare and the art of warfare. For this, Daulatabad Fort is considered as a symbol of progress in military architecture. The history of defeating fifty thousand army by just two thousand soldiers has been written here many times.

First of all climb to the top of the fort taking 5-5 minutes break. Then click some pictures, take rest . The view is very awesome 👌. Then come down seeing the big common at the top to Shree Ganesh Mainder. Again enjoy view. Then to Dark Passage to Meanda Thop and then to Common Gallery. [Best to come in morning have breakfast and then climb]

Devgiri Fort, is a historic fortified citadel located in Daulatabad village near Aurangabad, Maharashtra, India. It was the capital of the Yadava dynasty (9th century–14th century CE), for a brief time the capital of the Delhi Sultanate (1327–1334), and later a secondary capital of the Ahmadnagar Sultanate (1499–1636) Around the 6th century CE, Daulatabad emerged as an important uplands town near present-day Aurangabad Maharashtra, along caravan routes going towards western and southern India. The historical triangular fortress in the city was initially built around 1187 by the first Yadava king, Bhillama V. In 1308, the city was annexed by Alauddin Khalji of the Delhi Sultanate, which ruled over most of the Indian subcontinent. In 1327, Muhammad bin Tughluq of the Delhi Sultanate Named the city Daulatabad and shifted his imperial capital to the city from Delhi, ordering a mass migration of Delhi's population to Daulatabad. However, Muhammad bin Tughluq reversed his decision in 1334 and the capital of the Delhi Sultanate was shifted back to Delhi. In 1499, Daulatabad became a part of the Ahmadnagar Sultanate, who used it as their secondary capital. In 1610, near Daulatabad Fort, the new city of Aurangabad, then named Khadki, was established to serve as the capital of the Ahmadnagar Sultanate by the Ethiopian military leader Malik Ambar, who was brought to India as a slave but rose to become a popular Prime Minister of the Ahmadnagar Sultanate. Most of the present-day fortifications at Daulatabad Fort were constructed under the Ahmadnagar Sultanate. In Hindu mythology, Lord Shiva is believed to have stayed on the hills surrounding this region. Hence the fort was originally known as Devagiri, literally "hills of god.

It's a huge fort and you have to climb a lot to reach at the top of the fort. Once you start climbing you will find a huge tower there and you will be able to see very beautiful views from top of the fort. Also you can enjoy fresh and cold breeze at the top of the fort along with a scenic beauty.

A must visit historical masterpiece. Once you see it for yourself, you'll realise how difficult it would have been to build this in the 1st place. This fort was equally difficult to conquer too!
