Simple to reach and interesting to watch. If I remember correctly, this is one of the largest water locks in the world and it is quite impressive to watch a large container ship enter and exit it with the help of a tugboat. There is sufficient place to watch, and a small café only metres from the water front.

No ships came while we were there, but an engineering marvel!

A nice place to see the Nord Ostsee Canal. It's a shame that they charge 1€ and that at a ticket machine that only takes cash.

Combined viewpoint and outdoor exhibition on the locks of the Kieler Canal/Nord-Ostsee Kanal. Lots of information, but unfortunately, in German only.

Could have had 5 stars if they had sold beer.

Large area to view passing boat traffic. Some historic plaques and models are available in German. There is a covered area if it rains and a toilet nearby also.

This is a place where you can come via bus 11 to the last station, and then have to walk for 10 minutes. It was free when I came. You go upstairs to see the information panels about the history of that place. It is a good place if there is no wind!

Spent a lovely afternoon there w/ almost no one else on the platform. Unfortunately, the small shop w/ hot drinks was closed due to winter break (I guess). Still, for me this is a must-see when in Kiel 🛳️🚢⛴️

It's worth going there. If you're on the other side of the canal, there's a free ferry available to go to the Aussichtsplattform. Normal tarif is 1€.

Impressive place of you enjoy watching ships. The fences and the old plexiglass screens obstruct the view a bit. 1€ ticket to access

You can't really see much, but there is a friendly guide who loves taking about locks, which is fun. Beware of Jürgen the seagull.
