The
Nyanza
Genocide
Memorial
serves
as
a
solemn
remembrance
site
where,
on
April
11
each
year,
a
ceremony
honors
the
over
105,600
victims
brutally
murdered
during
the
genocide
against
the
Tutsi.
This
location
witnessed
the
tragic
events
of
April
11,
1994,
when
nearly
3,000
lives
were
taken
between
5:00
p.m.
and
8:00
p.m.
Like
numerous
other
sites
bearing
the
scars
of
a
painful
history
in
this
country,
the
memorial
pays
tribute
to
all
victims
of
the
Genocide
against
the
Tutsi
while
also
serving
as
a
poignant
reminder
of
the
international
community's
failure
to
prevent
this
atrocity.
Out
of
the
horrors,
only
around
100
individuals
managed
to
survive
at
this
haunting
site.
