Spent a month in Tanzania, this was my least favourite place. They gave me a feeling it was all about the money. Everything had to be renegotiated. The rooms were cheap but they were overcharging all the rest. The first night I was paying the same price as I would pay for a dinner in a fancy resort (and I stayed in a much fancier place in Mafia with better, tastier food charging me less money, so it's not about the location). Afterwards I renegotiated but it was still high for what they offered. Similarly for their whaleshark tours, they were overcharging compared to other people proposing whale tours and mostly, they went a lot shorter. When everyone in the boat complained we were going a lot shorter then promised they just didn't care. When I complained to the boss afterwards, he just said he would talk to the people from the boat. But still took my money. Rooms were clean, but I did get bedbugs. On the positive: The view from the hotel is really nice. The garden setting is nice too. The cook was really friendly and nice. Bakary, the guy who was managing it, couldn't bother giving me a smile for the time I was there. The owner gives you all smiles and sympathy but it feels very fake. I wouldn't go there, much better options in vicinity.

The place is extremely beautiful! The pictures give you a glimpse of the place but one needs to see for themselves. Juani Beach owners and staff are very friendly and cater for your requirements. They offer whale shark trips and ensure one sees the whale sharks. They provide the diving gear, give advice on how to go about the activity and guide you through it. The food at Juani is fresh. They get their fresh seafood each morning from the fishermen by the beach. They have a variety of dishes. Saturday nights are for bonfires and parties! The place offers real tranquility, privacy, serenity and vast, clean beach. This is the best place I have visited in Mafia.

Mussa and his staff are good hosts who do their best to serve you. They don’t try to sell or bother you with anything unless you have questions. Whaleshark trips with Max were amazing! Accommodation is basic, but clean. Beach is nice and very good for walks Unfortunately sunbeds are old which the staff doesn’t seem to bothered by. Dinner is well and freshly prepared , however very (=too) expensive compared to places nearby and elsewhere! They could (=should) do more on food and beverages towards clients to have them enjoy their stay even better.

Where to begin. Juani Beach Bungalows were the perfect hosts! Hassan guided me through the booking process and assured me not to worry. Moussa was an excellent host, attending to my every need. He even took me and two other girls out to a bar on Friday night which was amazing! He’s so full of life. Max and Juma were excellent with the whale shark tours. They made sure that I clearly spotted one and had the experience I was looking for. Bakari the bartender ensured that I was well fed and happy😂 Everyone is so warm and welcoming. One of the best travel experiences I’ve had thus far. Would highly recommend them any day!

We expected relaxation, quietness, beach, sun, nature, snorkeling, exploring the island (according to the activities listed on the website)… But we got „bum-bum-techno-party-sound" until 2 a.m. every night, no sleep, three days of rain, a wet and smelly bungalow, and no activities or trips except one boat tour in the afternoon, where no whale sharks could be seen. So after four nights, we decided to break up (we booked for 13 nights). After we told the owner, he disappeared, didn't answer our text messages or returned our calls. As we paid everything in advance, we lost quite a lot of money. Apart from that, the small plant would be beautiful - as long as it does not rain. Because then everything is wet. Oh and at least the food was delicious - hopefully, the cook will return after her child’s birth.

Mussa is a wonderful host, he took excellent care of us over Christmas, preparing lobster for our Christmas dinner on the beach at our request. He was a brilliant communicator and made us feel very at ease, nothing was too much trouble. We had welcome drinks on arrival (a coconut) and wanted for nothing (apart from maybe aircon as the weather was extraordinarily hot and humid but we knew there was no AC when we booked). The bungalows were clean and comfortable. It was good value for money and the whole surroundings were really relaxing - a floating bed, hammocks, and generally a friendly, welcoming atmosphere also made this a great place to meet other travellers. Thank you Mussa for taking such good care of us.
