So breathtaking, for my first time here I remember standing just listening to the sound of the air, letting the breeze hit me, it created a surreal moment of oneness, helping me imagine and just be in my own thoughts… all this while I was breathing a beautiful aura I couldn’t even understand but definitely was enjoying. I thought about the years and years this place has been around, how the diamond rush completely changed the course of humanity, how the diamond rush became subject to numerous battles, power plays, crime and just gave Kimberly a lot change. Looking at the hole, you may wonder how humanity managed to think of ways to mine in the area, the amount of time it took them to turn this into one of the greatest mine’s we had ever seen. The water below takes a beautiful sea green color, which resembles pool waters… one would think of jumping in for a great swim session… although the plunge is terribly dangerous and a serious hazard if you ask me. The Big Hole will remain one of the greatest man-made wonders of the world, and a great find for the creation of wealth for various people back in the day.

Holy hole..! Worth the visit including their shops. Maybe getting some gold, diamonds or just cool stuff they have!

  • 5Melanie B. 2 years ago
Indeed it's a "hole" new experience! So worth the visit and to pay the R130 entrance fee. A lot of in depth history. Neat and strict COVID compliance👍

  • 5Zulfah S. 2 years ago
I enjoyed my experience thoroughly. Really worth a visit. And we have to support our local attractions.

  • 5Schalk S. 2 years ago
It was great. Take time and do the full tour going into the "mine" and watching the movie. Also check out the old town just outside the tourist centre. An afternoon well spent.

  • 5Cameron P. 2 years ago
Incredible experience being at the big hole! The video was not the best and didn't paint the picture of what took place, but was enjoyable walking through everything. The information seems very interesting and actually has really diamonds there in a vault. The best experience I enjoyed was walking through the town and seeing how old days was taking place. I found that interesting. Bathrooms clean and parking is limited, but was a super experience. See photos for further details of what will experience.

Living in SA my entire life, this was my first time seeing this amazing piece of history. Everything from the entrance to the mineshafts was amazing.

  • 4Gabriel M. 2 years ago
It only cost R70 to view the hole but to get a full experience of what the underground tunnel and a brief history of how the mine came about it will cost R130 for adults. There are remains of the original town and train of the founder of the Debeers company himself!

  • 4Olatomiwa A. 2 years ago
