I
called
both
the
day
before
yesterday
and
yesterday
to
ask
whether
dairy-free
cakes
were
sold
and
that,
if
so,
whether
they
were
in
stock.
Through
both
calls,
I
constantly
reiterated
I
was
looking
for
dairy-free
cakes
so
as
to
leave
zero
room
for
miscommunication.
The
employee
I
spoke
to
assured
me
both
times
that,
yes,
they
did
sell
said
cakes—but
that
they
were
exclusively
ice
cream
cakes.
This
was
fine
for
me.
During
the
second
call,
I
even
asked
him
to
double
check
the
bakery
to
confirm
they
were
in
stock
before
I
ventured
out
to
pick
one
up.
Not
only
did
he
assure
me
they
were
in
stock,
but
that
there
were
plenty.
I
arrived
2.5
hours
later.
I
asked
an
employee
to
guide
me
to
said
cakes
as
I
was
having
trouble
locating
them
in
the
bakery.
It
turns
out
there
were
none.
Seeing
that
he
was
having
trouble
locating
them
himself,
I
asked
if
he
had
any
idea
who
I
may
have
spoken
to
on
the
phone
earlier
at
around
4:30.
It
was
himself.
Safeway
does
not
and
did
not
sell
lactose
free
cakes
at
all.
I
pointed
out
to
him
that
he
confirmed
with
me
several
times
during
those
two
phone
calls
that
they
sold
dairy-free
cakes.
He
apologized
claiming
he
must
have
misunderstood
me
on
the
phone.
I
drove
to
Sterling
Park
for
absolutely
nothing
and
it
was
far
too
late
to
go
to
Whole
Foods.
I
spent
an
extra
30
minutes
desperately
scrambling
around
the
store
to
look
for
alternatives
and
eventually
gave
up
and
spent
much
more
than
planned
or
necessary
to
make
up
for
everything.
I
was
late
and
my
birthday
surprise
plans
were
in
utter
ruin.
