This place is amazing. We went in the morning. The view is amazing and the air is so fresh you'll feel it. There are stairs to go up and also there is a route to go up for maybe ambulant people and aged who can't climb stairs. This place is perfect for a vacation with friends or family. They have drinking water and also restrooms all the way up near the lighthouse. Overall a great visit.

Wonderful circular walk up to the lighthouse and back to the car park. The walk up the steep path gets your blood pumping but then rewarded with lovely views from the top and, if you're lucky, maybe spot a breaching whale. You can take the more gentle path up too if you prefer.

Amazing view from top and many beautiful spots on the way to take pictures. There are two ways to climb. I would recommend to take the longer one which is steep way for trekking. The way with steps is little hard for non experienced trekkers. From parking to the start of trekking way, you have to walk through beach. Parking charges are $10 per hr.

The main acces is behind of the beach. You won't see the sign until you walk through the beach till the end. You can park your car down hill, along way beaches, and the rest must walk. Parking cost $10/hr and can add/min multiples 15min. Worth to track, goes to the top of light house to see the entire palm beach, but for sure will be sweaty. It took approximately 35min returns. There are two ways up to the top Barrenjoey Headland; 1. Acces trail 800m, grade 2, 15min, flat track 2. Smugglers track 400m, grade 3, 10min, ladder track (I took this track) I thought these tracks not suit for kids. Note; no water, no toilet during your track till the top. So need to handle your small business first before climb :) There is a public toilet around the beach.

The steps are many 550 steps -up, up and away. But the trail is short on the step side so the legs and lungs burn but it is over soon. That aside, it is a must do! The steps / trail, is wide and well marked - you can go up the steps and down the sloped side on the way back to create a full circuit. The views are breathtaking (could be all the steps 🤣) so many perfect photo opportunities and they all do not disappoint. We spent about an hour at the top, found a nice rock spot in the sun and just took in the majesty of the sea and the height of the vistas.

2nd time visiting this place. Great views. Rated as Grade 2-3 with a return hike time of 35 minutes. Parking is about 300m from the starting point. The fee was $10/hr or $40/day for the public holiday. Check Park n Pay app. There are two ways to get to the lighthouse. One is via the stairs which is steeper but quicker and the other is a gradual slope. I personally prefer the slope as it’s wider and you don’t have to wait for people to go from the other direction. Both have their pros and cons. By the way there are portable toilets at the lighthouse. Or if you’d rather use the restrooms at the carpark before you start the journey.

Wonderful walk on a sunny day, two trails are available to the top. From the car park you access these trails via. a walk along the beach. Toilets and water are available at the top even though signs say the contrary. Must be recently installed. Be wary car parking is between $8-10 per hour.

My pet parrot and I really enjoyed the hike up to the Barrenjoey Lighthouse. The views from the lighthouse are stunning and gorgeous: looking back on two bays (Station Beach and Palm Beach) with bush land in between. Even though both of us were drenched with rainstorm, we were extremely satisfied with the views and the lovely people we met on the hike. Parking is quite pricey if you park by the Station Beach and the Boathouse ($10 per hour). We park on the side street off the Barrenjoey road (free 2 hour parking), and enjoyed the walk passing through the shops on the way to the Station Beach.

One of the most beautiful places for about half a day trip from Sydney. You might opt to stay near the carpark & sit & relax which we have done a few times, but you will miss the amazing scenic views from the hike that you do. There are two trails which you can choose from & one of them is not bad at all. A few steep slopes but plenty of place to sit & rest if you going with family & elderly. Must go up the top for amazing views.

A must to visit in Sydney, NSW. Built in 1881, this heritage lighthouse is an iconic Sydney attraction offering stunning views of palm beach and ocean. A great option to explore nature and enjoy time with family or friends. Pay park is available (starting 8$ for 1 h and costing 1$ per each extra hour). 25 min from car park. Take smugglers track to reach to the lighthouse. Its shorter and offers amazing views to take incredible photos. Highly recommended!!!

This is a must do when visiting Sydney I won’t repeat the information that other reviewers have previously provided. A few tips 1. Take the track up and stairs down - as you will gain different views of the Lighthouse and Peninsula 2. After visiting the light house keepers grave follow the dirt track south east until you reach the cliffs over looking north palm beach - Beautiful view of the peninsula, well worth the trek 3. When returning back to the car park there are 3 options - station beach , through the middle of the dunes or along north palm beach. After existing path leading to the light house walk 100 meters along station beach back towards the car park and take the first north palm beach access walk way - they are not marked - refer to photos

What a fantastic view from the top! Well worth the hike up. Take the steps if you're feeling fit, or take the path to the left for a more gentle climb (although still a challenge and not suitable for all as it gets quite steep) Well maintained path with toilets and water at the top.

Our trip to Palm Beach included - Had breakfast at one of the cutest coffee shops(forgot the name but it is near the nearby parking) - Had an ice cream from the next door shop - Walked along the beach - Climbed to the light house ( pretty tired for sure ) . Across your way, there are several places to rest - Reached the light house. This is where I saw a whale. Amazing innit?? - Explored the places around and had many good pics !!

It was a spontanous decision to visit this place today from Manly! Because there is a public bus Manly - Palm Beach *number 199. More crazy act to hike the hill to see this Lighthouse because I just recovered from knees and ankles injury. There are 2 different ways up. I recommended smugglers track. Trust me! The view from this lighthouse is spectacular. Anyway, there is a tour available around of this lighthouse of you interested.

Worth the visit! Nice trail to walk up. Two options, road or steps. I suggest to walk up the road and walk down the steps, much easier. Also, one up there, go dipper in the wild trail until the end of the cliff, amazing view of the left beach from there. But be careful is dangerous!

Boxers Day.. a hike to Barrenjoey Lighthouse was worth a hike. Climbed a fleet of stairs & reached up n walked down a steep path. Built 144 years ago was worth visiting.

This is one of my favorite place, nice and romantic walk around the beach then you have to do a bit exercise by climbing the mountain along the track walk. For just 15-20 minutes walk then you can reach the Lighthouse.

Took a walk today to the Barrenjoey Lighthouse. Suggest to park your car at “Station Beach” and walk along the beach. The walk is around 10 minutes from carpark to the signboard before a 35 minutes return to the lighthouse. It was quite steep but doable for most ages. Overall, a good walk! Highly recommended!

Steep steps for about 450 metres, with options to sit and rest if need to along the way. Great views of Station and Palm beach close to the top. Grassed area near lighthouse is comfortable for sitting and taking in views. Return via stairs or flat steep descent.

Scenic walk/hike up and down the lighthouse with a dip in the water at the beach conveniently located on the bottom of the hill to cool off. Recommend to go up through the easy route and come down through the steps to soak in views on both.

This is a beautiful walk up to the lighthouse. The panoramic view is breathtaking. I would suggest going the pathway up and the steps down. I’ve been here a few times and the steps can be difficult especially in the wet. Going the steps down also gives you a nice view going down with ease. The only thing that ruins the experience is the $8 an hour parking.

A beautiful walk with a spectacular view. It’s not an easy walk by any means. You can either take the stairs, 300 or do of them, or you can take the hill, which is pretty steep in parts. At the top, there’s a beautiful lighthouse and cabin. There’s also a nice walk taking you out closer to the edge of the headland. Along the way, there’s an old gravesite of one of the lighthouse keepers who apparently got struck down with lightening while fetching firewood during a storm. Great activity to do on a nice day.

Well, this is one of the best place to spent your good day. 15 mins of hike, there are two ways to the top, i suggest you to one while going up and another one to come down. Both ways have their own field of view. Have a look at some of the pic i have got from there.

Visited light house palm beach this weekend and loved the beach cool breeze and a grade 2 hike. There are two hikes, you can choose either one depending on your stamina and energy. We choose grade one which is mostly stair cases and it’s a 15 min hike 1 way to light house, it was an amazing experience. A must visit for bike lovers like me. Recommended 👍

A great place to be with your family and friends. The walk to the top can be challenging especially if you have small kids or elders. There’re magnificent 360 degrees views on the way to the top that can be cherished for lifetime. Recommend to keep two hours for the to and fro trip that includes the time for hiking and time spent at the summit. Highly recommended !!

Nice awesome views, a great steep hike up a flight of stairs, good cardio, beautiful spots to stop & click photos. Avoiding the stairs you can walk down a steep pathway. One must wonder how people made a beautiful lighthouse 144 years ago.

Went up for the view and experience. Great outlook, well maintained. Try both ways, the smuggler's path as well as the more scenic route ;-). Not worth just for the lighthouse, combine it with a trip to the surrounding beaches. View during the way up down town to the beach.

Beautiful scenic views. 2 trails going to the top where the lighthouse is. We went up the steep 10min trail and came down the longer less steep trail. Best time to hike in the morning to catch the sun rising.

Lovely place for a sort day trip. Make sure the day is nice and sunny to enjoy the view fully. You can enjoy a guided tour up the Lighthouse for $10 per person, and you get to go up the main tower.

  • 5/5 Aria 2 years ago on Google
Great scenery from the top. Recommend to take the 800m path going up and use the 400m stairs to go down as this going to offer you different perspective of the surrounding area.

Very nice walk up to the lighthouse! Best thing is that it's fairly close to the city and you can still take the public transportation to Palm Beach.

A visit to the Barrenjoey Lighthouse is an absolute must for anyone seeking breathtaking panoramic views. This iconic landmark offers a truly magnificent vantage point, making it the ideal destination for witnessing the mesmerizing beauty of sunsets or for a leisurely gathering with friends. The experience is nothing short of exceptional, and I wholeheartedly recommend this remarkable location.

  • 5/5 Alice M. 8 months ago on Google
The walkway to the top has magical views of the curved beach. It’s a little steep in some areas and the car parks are paid car parks. The lighthouse is nice to see too.

It's a good hike up and nice views both on the way up and from the top. We went when it was almost dark coming down. Would still recommend that as the dusk on the narrow Palm Beach strip is a sight you'll cherish. Has two ways up/down - stairs, pretty steep; and a pathway. We went up the latter and came down the stairs.

The walk up to Barranjoey Lighthouse is worth it - beautiful views along the way and from top of the hill! There are 2 routes - 800m with gradual gradient and 400m of narrow steps (smugglers track). Parking is $10/hr and to soak it all in allow for minimum 1-1.5 hours.

  • 5/5 Lisa K. 8 months ago on Google
What a view from the top! Gorgeous lighthouse and buildings. On Sundays you can do guided tours of the lighthouse and surrounding buildings. There are two ways to walk up. Stairs which takes about 10 minutes which is graded as a 3. I took them up and went down the slope which took 15 minutes and graded a 2. Both ways were very good and wonderful views.

  • 5/5 Bishnu S. 10 months ago on Google
Just a 15min walking track. Great views walking you climb up and the view from the lighthouse itself is phenomenal. It’s a must must go place. Drowns aren’t allowed in some of the places but still the view of palm is breathtaking.🥳

  • 5/5 vineet k. 9 months ago on Google
Absolutely Stunning!!! Brilliant place to visit with family… it has 2 routes (400m grade3 and 800 grade) which is not a lot considering the view from top There is not a lot once you reach to top but enjoy the scenery and click some pics Ample parking around Palm beach and can later enjoy quite picnic.. Don’t forget to stuff yourself with ice creams before you start your hike!!!

  • 5/5 Calum M. 1 year ago on Google
Great walk with wonderful views down Palm Beach. Two paths to choose from: A flat road with some steep sections or a harder climb up via some steps through the bush. Great for all ages and abilities.

  • 5/5 Jonathan D. 10 months ago on Google
Stunning views and great relatively quick bush walk to the top (15-20 min one-way for most people). You'll see all kinds of birds on the way up (rainbow lorikeets, swallows, honeyeaters, kookaburra, etc) and might see whales breaching out to the east (we saw a bunch in June). Note that there isn't much to see of the lighthouse itself, it's really just about the hike up and the views from the top.

  • 5/5 Dani 10 months ago on Google
Stunning views for a relatively easy hike! Didn’t go in the lighthouse just walked around. If you have good mobility/stability I recommend going up one path and down the other to soak up all the views.

Nice walk. Quite steep but only really takes about 15min to get to the top. Bring a picnic blanket for a nice spot for picnic. Walk through the scrub to get closer to the head point for views out over the ocean.

  • 5/5 Alan W. 1 year ago on Google
It's not such an easy walk but well worth the effort. Path starts on the west (inland) size of the headland. And up you go. The path is stone paved and in good condition. Spectacular views from the top. Don't forget to visit the grave of the first lighthouse keeper, George Mulhall. George was Australian born in 1811. He was appointed as lighthouse keeper at Barrenjoey in 1881. Legend has it he died by a lightning strike in 1885, but it was a stroke that did him in. Say "hi" to George on the other side (east) of the lighthouse, reached by a little path to the left of the main foot path to the ocean headland. "Hi George" 👋

This is one of the most beautiful places I've seen in Sydney, it's far away but it's worth it, it takes about 2 hours from circular Q. But you'll love it, being able to see the beach and the bay at the same time is amazing. You can do a trekking should be about 25 minutes. but you will have the best view of all.

  • 5/5 Shivanthan B. 1 year ago on Google
A nice hike and breathtaking views from the top. You have two options to climb. One is to take the stairs (steep) the other is to take the ramp. We took the ramp as to climb up as we were with two young children and took the stairs to climb down. Stop over at whale beach and ferry wharf and a few other beaches to spend your day.

  • 5/5 Michela Z. 1 year ago on Google
Beautiful walk up to the lighthouse - spectacular views and many “instagram” moments. The “Smuggler’s Track” that veers to the right at the bottom is quite steep and full on steps, while it is easier and less inclined on the “access track” (that looks like vehicles can actually drive up). You can do a round trip walking up one and down the other. Awesome day out for families, friends or couples, or just to have some “me time”.

  • 5/5 Sims L. 1 year ago on Google
You have two choices of route to get up and down. One is steeper and faster(stairs) and another is longer and more mellow/ no stairs . They have a sign to tell u which is easy to navigate. There’s spots and views along to way to stop and check out and it’s such a peaceful nice view esp sunset time. It gets quite cold up there during the late arvo . Recommend to bring some snacks when u reach the top

  • 5/5 Jenny C. 3 years ago on Google
A good 20-25mins climb to the top from starting point at bottom of the hill. A 10mins walk from carpark. 2 options going up: stairs 20mins or slope 25mins. The slope is quite steep, not that much easier than the stairs but wider whereas stairs are one person only in parts. But the view up at the lighthouse is fantastic.

The northernmost point of Sydney’s northern beaches is a headland with a lighthouse on the top. There are 2 ways to the top, the narrow and steep smugglers path or the longer and broader way. Any way, it’s quite a climb, but definitely worth it for the view at the top!

  • 5/5 Debi T. 4 years ago on Google
It can be a bit of a slog climbing up all the stairs, especially if it’s summer when it can be crowded. So make sure you bring water with you as there’s nothing to buy once you’re up there. The views north across the Hawkesbury, and south back to Palm Beach and Barrenjoey are magnificent. You cannot go up into the lighthouse. Rather than take the steps back down, walk north-west of the lighthouse and you’ll find a service-road that’s a little longer, but a more gradual walk down.

  • 5/5 Hudson Y. 3 years ago on Google
A short sweaty hike up for really awesome views of the peninsula and ocean! Parking is $8ph and activity should take roughly 2-3 hours including photo time.

  • 5/5 Melby C. 3 years ago on Google
Beautiful view up there! There are 2 options for the trail. Better to choose stairs while going up (though one has to toil up) and the inclined way while returning. It’s paid parking there and the drones are not allowed.

Sydney is lucky to have a point of beauty at its northern most tip - at a height of around 300 ft, it offers prestine views of waters on three sides, a narrow causeway and two beaches on either side. As we walk down the smugglers trail (it is steep and tiring to climb it, must admit) you come across couple of different views of the same place. I wosh i had come across this earlier!

  • 5/5 Matthew Y. 3 years ago on Google
Really breathtaking view! Definitely worth the short hike up. There are two ways you can scale the headland. Either the quick and steep or slow and less steep. Note that you have to pay for a tour to go up to the top of the lighthouse.

Amazing view to the palm beach and the bay on the opposite. Popular for tourists but also a local's fav for mountain climbing and exercises. Enjoy the beautiful and lush view with the ocean and the bushes and all the birds chirping. Van be slippery after rain so do wear proper shoes when wet. Good for watching sunrise or sunset.

A true testament to Sydney’s epic scenery and public spaces the lighthouse is well worth a visit. There is steep walk or even more steep stairway. Take time to read the plaque next to George Mullen’s grave. The only thing that spoils the experience is the parents who drag tired, disinterested kisds who end up as loud pests up the walk. Parking is limited during busy times and an allegedly patrolled by Sydney meanest parking warden. The lighthouse fails both the craft beer and reasonably tall man shower tests, but since neither would be appropriate or applicable I will let that slide.

The historic sandstone Barrenjoey Lighthouse (1881) sits at the northern tip of the Northern Beaches in an annex of Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park. You've got two route options – shorter stairs or a winding, convict-built track – for the steep hike to the top, but majestic views across Pittwater and down the peninsula are worth the effort.

Easy drive on a weekend for a short walk and view of the beach and lake. Unique view from the lighthouse with water on either side of the peninsula. Good for most ages as the walk up isn’t too difficult - there’s a easier and fully paved road up or there’s also a shortcut with stairs to the top.
