This place starts out great with free parking and really reasonable admission, and then when you see how clean it is and how nice everyone is and how genuinely passionate they are about their conservatorship, it puts you in a really great mood. There is so much for little kids, they love the giraffe feeding and the playground, the petting zoo, and of course, all the other animals. I was incredibly impressed by how active and alert and playful all the animals were. For its size, you cannot beat it; and honestly, it's a perfect size too, any bigger and you wouldn't be able to see everything in one morning/afternoon. It was a hot day and they had mister stations throughout, and they also serve adult beverages, much appreciated. I also love that they do events there. It's the perfect option for soaking up the better part of the day, even more so if you also do treetop adventures. My only criticism there is it's unclear to me STILL how I was supposed to buy tickets; I think if you're going to do treetop adventures, you buy treetop adventures tickets and they include zoo admission. This should be clearer, that's all.

Great little zoo, with beautiful grounds. We visited on a weekday afternoon while passing through, little wait for tickets. We enjoyed seeing all of their animals, the giraffe feeding was definitely a highlight, and the kids loved the large play area and percussion garden. We were pleasantly surprised by the food options on site, including adult beverages. If wed had more time, we would've loved to check out the ropes course.

I love this zoo. I have been a member for more than 25 years and have seen it go through many changes during that time. This is an excellent zoo to bring children. It is relatively small so you can take your time and see it all in an hour or two. The exhibits have been redesigned to give the animals much larger and interesting enclosures than what was used in the past. Children can enjoy the close up views of many of the animals, a carousel and a fine playground. A good variety of food and beverages are available in many places including adult drinks.

We went on a Friday morning right before it opened. No line cause I bought the tickets in advance online. My 4 year old loved the animals so much. He tells me all the time he wants to come back and see them again. The gift shop was nice lots to pick from. The staff were also very helpful & kind. My son especially loved feeding the giraffes. Will be coming back again in warmer weather.

I absolutely love their holiday Wild Lights show! They really turn this place into a magical land of lights! It looks so nice this time of year. They also offer pictures with Santa and other select Disney characters. This year, it was Frozen characters, and the kids enjoy it every year! They have some animals you can see as well after dark, but some of them are inside fir the night. We come for the lights mostly, but if we get to see the animals, that's a bonus. I highly recommend Elmwood around the holidays. Their light show will not disappoint!

We loved our family trip to elmwood park zoo! It’s the perfect little zoo. It’s not intense and too big like other zoo’s. It’s laid back, lots of shade, lots for the kids to do and see. The animals are well kept. You can even grab a beer and while you watch the animals and be the best parent ever. The park inside the zoo is nice and offers something like physical for the kids! Next time we will try the zip line and ropes course!

We attended a wedding here tonight. How cool and unique having a wedding at a zoo! Our kids are picky eaters and didn’t like any of the food being served. The catering manager made some nuggets and fries just for our kids. That was very kind and meant a lot to us. Five stars for him being awesome!

Wow!!! Amazing adventure right in our back yard!! (30 min drive) if you have children this is a MUST! Great attractions, huge playground, tons of things to do and see. It can be a full day or just a few hours visit. Wayyyyyyyyy better than the Philadelphia zoo. Very clean!! THEY SERVE ALCOHOL and coffee! Staff is positive and very helpful and personable. Animals were well taken care of and seemed happy to be there. Giraffes were super cool to feed. Worth every penny!

The light show was nice. Too bad more animals weren't out, but it is December. Parking was CRAZY but got VERY luck finding someone pulling out after several laps..

Just an awesome place for kids. Been going here a lot over the past few years. Get there at 10am and it’ll be nice and quiet. No huge crowd. Plenty of cool things to see - red panda, giraffes, zebras, bison, sloth, and they seem to be adding more. Plus you can get free passes from the libraries if you’re a Montgomery County resident. Probably a good 2 hour visit or so most times for us with a 3 and 5 year old.

I absolutely loved this Zoo!! It is in my top 3 favorite!! Honestly as much as zoos are kid friendly I would not bring young kids! Before I get a lot of hate let me explain! I love going to the zoos and seeing the animals and when I go I do NOT want the distraction of a kid wanting to leave or trying to take off. I want to observe and admire the animals! Call it selfish I don't care that is just my opinion! I love that this zoo offers adult beverages! I don't like the price but it is an added bonus! I love how close you can get to the animals and how they all look happy and healthy! I would totally come back! I highly recommend this zoo whether for a date day or family day with kids.

Very nice zoo! Lots of shade, misters and great zoo program. Also lots of food choices and you can bring your own food too. Good parking and great views of the animals. Only a few things to keep in mind: the carousel was open and then was temporarily down for the remainder of our trip. If you want to go on it and it is up, don't wait. Also, the hand sanitizer throughout the park smells pretty bad. My recommendation: bring your own. None of this deters my visit and would love to come back soon!!

Love this place. Went for Fathers Day on a whim. My kids are grown and loved it as well. It’s a smaller zoo but has a great vibe. Most of the animals are rescued which makes it that much better. And they serve beer!

The perfect size zoo for little ones and their families! You get to see big and small animals within a reasonable walking space plus there's feedings, carousel rides, treetop adventures and face painting for an additional fee. Enjoy the playground, food stands and musical garden too. Lots of parking which is free. Highly recommend! They also have great seasonal events.

Extremely cute Zoo! Reasonably priced. Well maintained, beautiful landscape. Animals all appeared healthy and taken care of. There are great tasting food options for lunch. You can feed giraffes (2 pieces of lettuce for only 4$) Zoo is about 16 acres so it’s perfect for children who get tired, or disabled and seniors. They have a carousel and small petting zoo as well.

Son loves it (1-3 yrs). We try to come monthly. Great small zoo and perfect outing for little ones (1-2 hrs). Giraffe feeding is fun. Like to bring snacks to enjoy on picnic tables under covered area. Worth the annual pass!

This Zoo is currently under great re-construction to the front but the main Zoo hasn’t really changed. I would strongly advice buying tickets in advance as they always just have one ticket booth open and if someone in front signs up for a season ticket it can take ages. The park has a great setup and plenty of animals to see close up. Great for all ages and has a super play park

The zoo is really small but enough parking areas. As soon you get in you see the eagles and red panda and food court.there are couple of food courts around the zoo. Shopping store by the entrance.water mist to cool you off. There are few animals compared to other zoo.I think the price is reasonable. There is giraffe enclosed where you can feed them for $5-7.cougar,Jaguar and zebra and bison few of the notable animals.no lion or tiger. Ample parking space for everybody.

Great little zoo. Loved seeing the bison. They were up close and you could really get the sense of how big they are. Feeding giraffe is also a great activity for the kids. We'll be going back and it's worth the membership if you're local. The playground is cool as well but can beat little crazy when it's busy.

Was expecting a nice zoo, and been looking forward to coming here for a bit. Very limited animal exhibits. They have the audacity to charge extra to see the giraffes. Doesn't the admission and extra fees that comes with the mandatory online booking give one access to see the animals??? seems like a glorified mommy and me time children playground versus an expected zoo experience.

Such a cool place hidden in the heart of Norristown. Prepare to spend between an hour and 2 here. They have several spots to buy and eat food. Everything is well maintained and they are constantly improving and adding exhibits. Lots of fun stuff to see here and if you live nearby they have a season pass that has lots of perks. There are quiet areas if you need them and they have a lot of events if you look at their website. The giraffe feeding is fun, but check the times that it is offered. I've been here a few times and even when it's busy, it's not too overcrowded and it's easy to move around.

The staff was all so genuinely pleasant and helpful. The price for admittance was excellent! Parking is free, which is great. Feeding the giraffes was unbelievable. The staff and even security guards were all knowledgable. And held to Covid restrictions. Food and drinks were a little pricey, but worth it, so be prepared for that. Over all, we'll be going back looking forward to all the attractions being open.

Each time we go, it seems like more exhibits are added. They just recently acquired a sloth (which is soo cool!) Great for kids and adults. Also wanted to shout out their memorial brick process. We unfortunately lost a 30 year old cousin suddenly. One of the last places we visited together was the zoo. It is also the place she got married. While the brick took some time, it was beautifully done. I would highly recommend this beautiful memorial.

Small zoo! Can easily finish it in a day. It was a wonderful place for a field trip! The jaguar exhibit and sloth were by far their best experiences! The kids at the field trip had a wonderful time, and for a Friday morning at the end of the school year, the zoo was very quiet.

I would definitely recommend visiting this zoo. It's so much of fun for my toddlers seeing the original animals ( not the Cocomelon 😜) for the first time. Both of my toddlers enjoyed a lot in the park too with the slides swings and different climbings to the slides. I wish I could have shown my kids lion bear elephant and other animals that I noticed are not present in this zoo. For a small of this size may be that's all we've. There's some construction going on not sure if that's meant for adding more animals or for parking or for other stuff. Please look for parking marked towards additional parking to enter zoo quickly otherwise you have to walk through boardwalk which adds more time😀

This is a cute zoo with a variety of animals. I watched several of the workers feed the animals and they look well taken care of. My only dislike was the jaguar that was kept in the small enclosure without access to the outside...he kept staring at the exit like he was looking beyond the door to potential freedom which broke my heart. 💔🐆 Hopefully they let him out in the sunshine at times. Other than that and my desire to take all the animals home with me, it was an interesting and fun visit. ✨

We love Elmwood! Perfect for parents with young kids. It's big enough to be interesting but small enough to walk around in 90 minutes. There's an awesome playground that's completely fenced in so you can let your feral children loose. There's a cool music garden that my kids love. There's a nice selection of animals that you really get a good view of. You can even feed the giraffes!

Loved my visit to the zoo. Was a nice trip to do solo. I went towards the end of the day and crowds were minimal. Some of the beauties I saw were giraffes, a leopard, bald eagles, Turkey vultures, and many more. Looking forward to enjoying some of the food and spirits when covid restrictions are lifted. Make sure to buy ticket online in advance.

This Zoo was incredible!! I like how close you can go to the animals and how happy and healthy they all appear! Children have a lot of opportunities to interact with the animals in the petting area and during the feedings. The playground is also fantastic. Excellent location for a family outing. Don't miss out on this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! I strongly ✔ encourage you to attend and show your support.

Unique little zoo. Nice place to take your family. Have breakfast with the animals or view one of their feeding events throughout the day. Watch the Bald Eagles, Vultures and Bears get feed. You can also take a ride on the Zipline, or have your child's face painted. You can also grab a bite to eat. Highly recommended.

I wish I could give more stars. This zoo is awesome! Great for adults, and kids of all ages. Very friendly staff with tons of information about the animals. Tons of FREE parking which is a huge plus in my book. This zoo is not small but not so big that you couldn't see everything in one visit. Overall I thought everything from admission, feeding the giraffes, and food was all affordable. When planning your visit you can print a map to bring with you, and you can look at menus for the different food vendors. Food was good, service was fast, and I'm pretty sure you can even place orders electronically. They have face painting (again great price), and they have one of the best merry-go-rounds I've ever seen. Instead of just horses they have all different animals. Very cool! I highly recommend feeding the giraffes. The line moved quickly, it's only five dollars a person, the staff was so friendly. They answered our questions, let us take our time and take pictures, and honestly every employee we encountered had a great attitude and seem to just love their job. And I almost forgot, through out the zoo are the beautiful wooden benches with animal carvings. I only included one picture of them, not to spoil the fun of finding them. Great family day trip for sure. Can't wait to go back.

Loved seeing the animals! Some of it is under construction but I can't wait to see the new attractions! We got there at quarter to 4 and it closed at 5, plenty of time to see everything but some of the exhibits closed at 4:30, so try to get there during mid day.

Elmwood Zoo is a perfect spot to take your kids to learn and have fun! This was my first time visiting this Zoo and it won’t be my last. No need to book tickets online. They charge a “convenience fee” and I’m glad I didn’t buy online. There was no wait to purchase tickets upfront or additional fee’s. Don’t waste your money on a convenience fee. Elmwood is a perfect size for smaller children when it comes to walking. We walked every inch of the zoo and my 5 year old was exhausted right at the end. They have sprinklers all over the park for the humans and animals. Educational carts with information about the animals and zoo attendants to teach you about that specific animal. Everyone was so nice and it was an all around great time. My personal favorite was the Red Panda. Soo cute. Thanks so much Elmwood Zoo!! We will definitely be back. ❤️

The good- Great small zoo. Kids 5 and under would love it. The bad - Management has to do a better job coordinating times for zoo entry. I purchased my tickets online and was given the slot 2pm and the zoo closed at 3pm. That was extremely unfair to me and my family when the advertised time was 12pm-3pm.

We went during the summer. I like that you can purchase tickets at specific times. It doesn’t seem overly crowded. We enjoyed feeding the giraffes but you do not get a lot of lettuce for the amount of money that you pay. It was really neat to see the different animal areas. They have a lot for a small zoo. Love that parents can purchase alcohol.

Cute place, lots of interactions between the animals and guests. I took my toddler and it was perfect. Young children are really engaged and tons for them to see and do. The size of this zoo is very accessible for kids. I had a membership in the past and it was great. They seem to have done a pretty good job with streamlining traffic to reduce exposure in this age of Covid.

Super cute, medium-sized zoo, very nice people working here, and the animals are all seemingly well cared for. A big playground and lots of food options. The zoo is currently undergoing significant construction, so the parking situation is a bit frustrating on weekends. I am excited for the construction to be completed. It sounds very impressive. The neatest thing about the zoo, besides feeding giraffes and the bird cage, is the specialty nights. They have overnight camping, Boo at the zoo during halloween, and holiday lights and shows during the holidays. The wedding venue also looks really nice. Great zoo to take the kids.

Love this zoo! It’s changed so much since my brothers were younger. I’ve become a member for my son and have been the past 3yrs and will continue too. We spend hours here from the animals to the playground and just hanging out having a lunch. Well worth it for the price and what they have to offer. We went to Elmwood Park as children back in the 70s, early 80s, and today's version is unrecognizably changed. It's still a small zoo with only a few dozen different animals, but it's a tidy facility that seemed great for families with children. In fact, it seemed to have almost as many amenities for guests as it did for the animals themselves. And it's expanding, so if you're local, a membership might make sense, as the zoo may be different each time you go.

  • 5/5 Moriah C. 3 years ago on Google

I have been a huge fan of Elmwood Park Zoo over the Philadelphia Zoo. I have been to their light show around Christmas time last year and it was incredible. My family and I were extremely disappointed in the light show this year. Not even half of the amount of lights were on display as last year and the picnic tables were all covered in snow, so no food was purchased because it is very difficult for a 3 and 5 year old to eat while standing or walking. If COVID had something to do with this outdoor event this year, then you should have canceled instead of taking my $70 and give a lame show. Don't think I will purchase another membership or drive 40 minutes to see a few lights.

Love this zoo. Their Christmas lights and displays are wonderful. We like to take the grandchildren every year for an enjoyable evening. As members, we also get a discounted entry rate.

Had a great time at the zoo! Saw animals close up and got to see a whole bunch of eagles and vultures. The area was also decorated for the holidays and it gave a nice touch to everything. We got to eat some of the food as well and having a QR code to scan and order instead of waiting in line was cool. Would definitely recommend the area for a visit!

This is a great local zoo, that is wonderful for smaller children. The animal selection is lower than the larger city zoos, but is still good. The chances for children to interact with the animals in the petting area and with the feedings is great. Also the playground is really good and helps break up the visit for younger children. The annual membership is a great deal for anyone who lives close enough. Highly recommended!

I went to the Wild Lights event on Tuesday of this week. Loved the tunnels of lights! Be sure to go early before your reservation though because the parking lot fills up.

Holiday light show was perfect for the whole family. Enjoyed fresh pizza, hot chocolate and cupcakes after the not-to-be-missed musical show, featuring Elsa and Anna from Frozen.
