A very historic monument that has a special history. Not many people know a tree actually stood where the clock stands now and that tree used to mark the half way point point on the journey to the city back in the day. Half way tree is actually the capital of parish of St. Andrew and not Kingston.

Half-Way-Tree Clock is the landmark for a street shopping area and a major bus terminal. Lots of clothes and fresh fruit and vegetables. I was told by locals that the place to eat is Pop's. Unfortunately I the not have a chance to try it out. Sunday is a slow day. Many shops are closed including Pop's.

Be very careful as a tourist. Wear no jewelry nor bag over shoulder. Step quickly and don't show phones nor purse out there. Dangerous and filled with professional thieves.

Traffic police is out there looking for violators and the taxi drivers and bike riders are breaking the rules right infront of them. Regular civilians that drive seems like their main targets.

A notable landmark for one of the more heavily trafficked locations in the city. Lots to see in the surrounding area.

Well it's a nice historical monument very tall and renovated it's just that you have some careless persons who have vandalised it and marked up on the walls...it also provides a nice little shade. You can't miss that clock if you are being directed for the first time in half way tree.

The only thing I didn't notice is if the clock was actually still fully functional... But it's surely still there BIG & BROAD, UP & LIVE!

What's there to say. It's a square with a clock that doesn't work lol. But it's even center of Kingston so anywhere you want to go within Kingston. That's the place to be

  • 5/5 David B. 1 year ago on Google
Located at the intersection of Constant Spring Rd, Half Way Tree Rd, Hope Road and Hagley Park Road.  Built in 1913 with victorian architecture. The clock engine was replaced with an electric movement in 2003.   The Bureau of Standards of Jamaica maintains the clock. It currently is in need of repairs. There is a stone bust on the West side entitled “King Edward VII The Peacemaker”.  The tower measures 7′-8″ square at the base, aproximately 33 feet overall height. N 18.01066°  W 76.79752°, Elevation 17 meters.

It's fixed as often as it stops working. National landmark though. Don't trust the pedestrian light, watch the traffic light also. Police are there constantly so it's a good meet up spot, nice, public and secure.

  • 3/5 Samuel B. 1 year ago on Google
It is still there in the middle of HWT not working. I understand the historical significance of the machanical working of the clock, but its not working and as i understand it, will not work because of the vibrations of modern traffic. Let add a digital clock to the pedestal.

  • 4/5 Shane M. 4 years ago on Google
Kind of a shady place, gives the feeling of "hey maybe i shouldn't stay in this area too long or show any expensive items around or i might get robbed" but odds of that happening is slim there's generally a lot of nice people in half way tree.

  • 4/5 Ajala K. 5 years ago on Google

Very busy transport hub and centre for shopping malls. Everything is here fast food, jewelers, haberdashery, record shop, banks petrol station, fruit and veg stalls galore. As with any busy urban location beware of theft and cross the roads with care.

Not much changes but I noticed there's a clock in each parish I wonder if they still work and in what occasion do they ring the bell back then, anyone knows 🤷 think I am going to do some research to find out, it's good to know about our history as Jamaicans.

  • 3/5 Jen 1 year ago on Google
The roads are REALLY HARD to cross. People break the stop light there often so be careful, on the one hand - there are police officers on duty there about 80% of the time during the day.

  • 3/5 David E. 1 year ago on Google
Fun fact there use to be a big tree where the clock now stands in half way tree, which is one of the reasons of the name "half way tree".

The store is clean and the service fast. The recent price hike is ridiculous though and the portions of the meal I bought are reduced. I bought a BEC combo and I was hard-pressed to find the bacon🧐

👍👍 It gets no better than Uptown Mondays. To attend it is a privilege because you're witnessing Dancehall culture in the making. As a Jamaican, this party made me proud. It's safe, the DJs are talented, and the dancers are artists! They bring Jamaica to the world!
