Throughout my previous 4 months in East Africa I hadn't been opportuned to see Rhinos in the parks I visited. Ziwa is perfect for this. The Ranger takes you to where you can watch the White Rhinos at close proximity. It's really cool and humbling to watch these beauties do their thing graze, walk around and chill

Amazing place. The rhino tracking is a must-do activity for any visitor here. We got to see three different rhino families. The walk is very easy and I'd say even people not so good on foot could easily manage. We stopped for a night on our way from Kampala to Murchison Falls and spent the night at the camping grounds inside (10 USD per person). The camping grounds are beautiful and well-kept, and warthogs, various antelopes and sometimes even rhinos walk around the camping area.

Staff were very friendly and welcoming.. we managed to see 5 Rhinos - including the youngest Rhino on the sanctuary. This was amazing because we arrived at 11.30am on a hot day.

This an amazing, must-see place. I first stumbled upon Ziwa in Jan 2018 and insisted that we stop. We spent 7 wonderful hours there. We were able to -safely - get so close to these magnificent creatures - it was a life-changing experience. 100% recommended. Then I had the opportunity to return two months later with my wife, and it was just as amazing. The sanctuary and its Rangers are doing such a fantastic job they absolutely deserve our support. Thank you Ziwa.

The Sanctuary is an incredible project. Seeing the rhino in the wild gives hope for global conservation efforts. The rangers are doing a great job.

Best time to come is during corona. Due to the fact that almost no one is there. The Rhinos dont go deep into the bush when they dont have people nagging them all day, we saw all 70 something rhinos including the babes. Super cool place was a lot of fun.

Amazing place. Wish I spent more time there. Probably the best part of the trip. They're doing amazing work there looking after the rhinos.

"Must see" place for all visitors keen on nature. The unique chance to approach rhinos by feet and observe them from short distance. One of a kind experience.

We had an excellent time at the Ziwa Rhino Wildlife Ranch. We (pretty last minute) decided to stay the night here and was the best choice to make. They were really accommodating (even while we were arriving late) to help us get settled in and make us dinner. The room was really pretty and cozy with ample warm water in the shower. Unfortunately we didn't see a shoebill in the morning (50/50% change), but plenty of Rhinos. They even came up in the evening to sleep on the grass in front of the lodge. Definitely recommend this.

Just got back from Uganda and had the pleasure of staying here. Absolutely love what they are doing for conservation efforts for reintroducing rhinos into the national parks. You have to give the Rangers credit as they do 24 hour shifts to protect the Rhinos. Out there by themselves in all weather. It was a great experience and I'm happy to hear they're making a positive impact. The accommodations were great, restaurant was also great. Really nice little pool to cool off in. Staff were lovely. Would love to visit again

After a temporary closure, the sanctuary is fully open again and under new management: Uganda Wildlife Authority and Ziwa Rhino & Wildlife Ranches Ltd. Tracking rhinos at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary - Uganda en route to Murchison Falls, Masindi or Hoima - is one of Uganda's most popular tourist attractions. Tracking the rhinos is a gentle activity that takes between 1 and 2.5 hours. Thank you to the Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers Khalid and Jackson who took me on a walking safari to track the rhinos 🦏🦏🦏. They are so passionate about these prehistoric-looking creatures! Their curiosity was contagious. I travelled to see the Southern White Rhinos but it was wonderful to hear new birds (White-crested Turaco) and to learn about the wide variety of species that are thriving thanks to the land's status as a sanctuary. You may also see Uganda kob, warthogs, bushbuck, duiker, hippos, crocodiles and possibly even a sitatunga. Ziwa has 350 bird species. I could imagine staying at Ziwa for two or three nights. In addition to the rhino tracking, you can enjoy nature walks, bird-watching, float out into the swamp in search of the Shoebills, take a night walk ... or simply enjoy being in the bush. 2021 entry prices for adults (over 13 years) are: Foreign non-resident (international tourist) 50 USD; East African resident 40 USD; Ugandan Citizen 30k UGX. 2021 prices for children (aged 6 to 12) are: Foreign non-resident (international tourist) 25 USD; East African resident 20 USD; Ugandan Citizen 10k UGX. On-site accommodation starts at $12 a night for camping ('bed only') rising to $35 per night (full board). Other options include dormitory, budget rooms and a guesthouse. It is all quite basic and is currently being refurbished. I only did a day visit; didn't stay overnight. Accommodation prices depend on whether you have breakfast only, full meals plan etc. (Ugandans pay half price on accommodation; expats and East Africans pay advertised rates). Upmarket accommodation is a few km away at Amuka Lodge. #rhinos #rhinoceros #wildlife #visituganda #diaryofamuzungu #travelblogger #EastAfricaTravelDirectory

The animals are used to be surrounded on a distance by humans, nevertheless it remains a magnificent experience to be so close to these majestic animals on foot. Given the history of this animal in Uganda, I can only have respect for the team that takes care of the Rhinos. Great location for a stopover in between Kampala and Murchison Falls NP.

A dream of a place in every way. It’s a really professional and serious wildlife conservancy, full of passionate and knowledgeable staff who care so much about protecting the rhinos and giving clients a great experience. From helping us with logistics beforehand (thanks so much to Saleem the awesome manager) to their welcome the minute we arrived, the delicious food, the unbelievably cool rhino tracking experience we had, everything was 5*. There were rhinos around the dining area late at night was was so so cool, and earlier in the evening there were warthogs and lots of other animals so close by. The rhinos were even there for breakfast in the morning! Ziwa was one of the highlights of our month long Uganda trip.

We spent a great time visiting Ziwa Rhino Santuary. Was a nice experience to see Rhinos and the walking was really nice. The Rangers do a explanation about them. We hope they don’t need to protect them from pochers ans we hope they could be reintroduced in the wild soon.

A unique place to visit Rhinos in their wildlife. The team at Ziwa is doing its best to protect Rhinos there, monitoring Rhinos every moment to keep them safe from poachers and diseases. These animals are so beautiful, safe and calm. Do not miss the chance to visit them. I had a chance to see a Rhino mother feeding her baby.

The only place to see Rhinos in Uganda. Couldn't believe how close they were. At night they come right up to camp so staying a night is worth it. Rooms were quite comfortable and the food offered at the restaurant was good. $50 US for the permit can be a bit steep but it's going to the sanctuary to help further protect the animals so it's money well spent.

The sanctuary is quite beautiful for an outdoor adventure. Seeing the Rhino's was a whole new experience. They're majestic animals.Overall the experience is worth it.However the trekking only lasts an hour and after that theres not much to do.The guides are friendly and the food is good, although the portions are quite small especially after you trek through the bush.Haha! The bathroom hygiene needs to be worked on.The only way to have fun is to make this a group activity.Carry your own music players and mats.Or do this on your way to another activity up North.

Fantastic experience with the Rhino 🦏 We loved the walk. I would not recommend the shoebill experience as there is rubbish all over the area, oil on the swap water and plastic bottles in the water. We were also told the construction of the bridge has scared the local wildlife (hence not a 5⭐️ experience)

(Translated by Google) A good start to a tour through Uganda or as a stopover on the way back to Kampala / Entebbe. It is better to avoid the lodge and we do not recommend eating. Poor price / quality ratio and uninterested service. The safari on foot to the various rhino families is nice, certainly as a start. Guides are knowledgeable. Nice initiative to reintroduce the rhinos.

If you have ever seen rhinos anywhere and you are on a budget, don't come. Yes, the guides were brilliant. But after having spent 2 weeks in Uganda, having been on countless game drives and other activities (and so being able to make comparisons), I have to say that it is not worth the money. We were taken to the mother and baby and basically that was it. Again as with the lodge, this is management issue, they have grown too comfortable.

Discussed my solo visit with Maria via whatsapp prior to arrival indicating that I'd be walking down from the nearby city and arriving at the front gate for rhino trekking as I wanted to confirm the price for the day's activities. The cost was outlined as $50 ($20 for park entry, $30 for trekking) and thought we were set. After arriving at the specified time, I was then told I'd have to take Bodas to the reception which is about 3 km away but they were trying to charge 10,000-20,000 shilling (for one way) at a point I didn't even want to negotiate with them. For anyone who has taken bodas in Uganda, you can approximate average price as 500 shilling/km typically. Anticipate to add an extra 20-30% of your visit if you're not traveling with a tour company or self-driving as the Bodas will aim to extort you for the last few kilometers. Ziwa management could have made this more clear when I stated exactly when and how I was arriving given that it's a significant cost. I'm sure the Rhino's are great, but go see them on safari or stay self-driving.

They indicate the sanctuary has over 30 rhinos but only show you 3 of which one young....I found this un satisfactory because rhinos are not like Cats dat they hide deep.....
