I have been meaning to try this pub for years when I was working nearby and it was closed due to Covid, so I made an effort to do so over Easter and I wasn't disappointed. It was like stepping back in time in the nicest of ways. A quaint, clean pub with well-kept ales, a real coal fire, fresh sandwiches, dog friendly with a selection of newspapers to read. This is clearly a popular local pub in a wealthy enclave of Edinburgh with prices to match. You can expect to pay £5.60 for a pint of real ale and £7 for Beavertown lager. This pub has been crowned by CAMRA for its ales and is worth seeking out if you want to enjoy a quiet drink in quaint surroundings with friendly locals. Highly recommended.

The most incredible wee pub - as in proper pub - I’ve ever seen. The fire place is the cherry on top. Nae tourists, no highland coos, no overpriced shortbread, just a proper tiny pub for friendly locals, with great staff and a lovely selection of reasonably priced cask and keg ales. Need to bring back the shrink wrapped ham and cheese n pickle bar rolls. Outstanding place that deserves every penny.

Doesn’t get any better. Proper pub with history, great staff (Andrew). No actual point in going to Edinburgh unless you stop here for a pint and something to eat. A hidden jewel

Fabulous small bar with attentive staff. A proper pub to relax in off the main drag, nice, quiet and relaxing with a good crowd.

I spent one night in this bar that was one of the best nights of my life. Friendly bar staff and the local people made me feel so welcome. Love 😍 the fact dogs are allowed in. Only problem is there is not much space as downstairs is quite small however if you enjoy a quick pint like me then give it a visit. ♥ 😊 😎 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 🇺🇦.

Close to city centre but tucked into a gentle and peaceful Georgian mews corner. Great "period" feel, very comfortable, good selection of interesting a very tasty beers. Lively but not noisy, very good to sit down for long drinks and chat with friends. Helpful, capable, cheerful staff. Fairly close also to Stockbridge; very pleasing this pub has survived - may Kay's last for many more years :-)))

It's a locals pub with flare and atmosphere! Not big just right. Great selection of scotch's.

A great bar to visit in the New Town. Good selection of ales (Jarl, Landlord, Orkney) and I would say the best kept and poured Guinness in town. Small but decent food menu and great baps or rolls at the bar (ham, Brie, corned beef). Some great old pics on the walls of the local area but this is a pub for today - warm, friendly and very easy to invest 2-3 hours here. It won’t be time wasted.

What a great bar. Tried 2 different pints and both of super quality. Lovely friendly atmosphere and I would come straight back when next in Edinburgh

What a cool find! Kays Bar is a lovely small and cosy place, with really friendly service (Andrew could not have been more welcoming).

Proper old style pub . Doesn’t serve cooked meals only sandwiches and rolls but is worth a visit for atmosphere alone . Cosy and a lively real fire .

Wonderful little gem tucked away on a hidden street in the middle of new town. Really nice staff and cozy pub, we had a great time here! My new favorite pub in Edinburgh.

Small little pub on a backstreet. Had a nice pint and the wife enjoyed a delicious cider. We stopped in to get a meal but they only serve food on specific days and times. The bartender did direct us to another spot after our pints to get some food in our belly

Shhh don't tell anyone about one of the best kept secret bars. Friendly staff, great selection of big name and Scottish beers, a range of whiskey bar none, and the best filled rolls around.

Timeless. A very small establishment serving excellent beer to a very happy client base. Everyone is extremely good natured as you can be very packed in.

My last visit here was 10 years ago and it was wonderful, so it was with trepidation that I set foot in this time , with the fear of it having perhaps changed or heaven forbid modernised !!…. To my delight it was exactly the same lovely people both behind the bar and customers… beer was excellent and I know for a fact it’s not going to be another 10 years til my next visit … one of my very favourite pubs in the UK 👍👍👍👍👍

Quaint little bar with a lot of atmosphere. We stayed nearby for a few days, so popped in a few times for a few drinks. Loved it every time! Great place for a drink before heading out... Or for a little nightcap while heading home.

A delightful city oasis. A genuine locals' bar, pleasingly almost unchanged after over 30 years. Great staff. Excellent selection of beers and whisky, and presumably other spirits. Worth a detour, as they say.

Quiet, quaint pub in an unassuming area. Had a pint and a steak pie and really enjoyed everything. As an American (yeah, I know..), it was nice to enjoy the silence in the bar. No music, no sports, no televisions at all.

Small pub off the beaten track. Fine selection of beers and cosy atmosphere. Staff are friendly with quick service. Interior is traditional with a fire for those chilly winter nights.

A singular authentic pub with a local clientele and an olde worldwide feel. This bar never gets too busy, and is full of authentic beers and locals, or those Edinburghers who have discovered its charm. Old barrels are on display, there is a real coal fire and a scuttle, and to the rear is a small room comprising three more tables which include the availability of board games. You can tell this is a really old building because the stone frame around the window in this rear is 2 ft thick and is covered with an old velvet cushion on the sill. Plenty space for sitting. A beautifully ornate pub tucked away in a forgotten place and time, and wonderfully so.

A classic but not a cheap experience. Understandable considering area located. Deffo worth a short walk out of the centre to friendly local bar

The very best vibes of Edinburgh. Thankful to be brought here by my local Edinburgh family. Otherwise, I'd have never found this treasure! Find it! Great staff, great ambiance!

Terrible tourists should avoid.... No, in truth this is a fantastic pub a true Edinburgh drinking spot. Slightly off the beaten track but worth going out the way for. It's a place to settle into for an evening with friends and get chatting.

This is the pub for the New Town elite. The customer base is very up market. An excellent selection of malt whiskies and draught beers along with the unique decor make this bar a member of the Edinburgh top ten.

First time here with a friend, though I'd planned to go previously. I'm just that bit far away, so taxi needed. Very small, but lovely, old boozer with selection of real ales. Low ceilings. Small back room also with a library of books. I think I saw an observant landlord, but not sure. The locals seemed like a good bunch and friendly. The pub looks to be very old, but I don't know the history. Looks at least early Victorian but my guess is earlier still.

Popped into this bar today for the first time after a walk in the rain. Friendly staff with a good selection of beers and whisky. And a real fire.

Really lovely little bar. Best citra I've had in a long time! Friendly, chilled, warm. What more do you want on a February afternoon?

A quirky little bar tucked away in a back street of Edinburgh's New Town. Not much space. Good range of craft ales on tap. Great for an evening of chat .
