Lake bed near visitor center completely dry. Sump 1B area on east side has plenty of water and birds, deer. Picnic area across road from visitor center very pleasant place to relax. The Discovery Marsh trail head, no water so no waterfowl.

Mich of the water has dried up, so there wasn't much in the way of marshes/mudflats. However, what we found in and around the refuge proved to be very productive birding.

My husband and I adore this Wildlife refuge. The land is beautiful, and the wind adds a magical touch. We've captured some incredible photos, and always enjoy visiting here. It's one of our favorite special places.

It's beautiful in its own way.. heads up though.. these are actual caves.. you climb into them. Some safety gear is suggested and even required for some caves. The ranger was extremely friendly and helpful. Camping was first come first serve. 10$ a night clean.. quiet.. with real bathrooms and running water.

Came here off season, so I didn’t get to see any eagles or anything “super super” cool however, we drove around and go to see lots of pretty birds just chilling. The amount of mosquitoes were frightening so we stayed inside the car, but we were still able to see plenty from the car. Got to great shots of birds too!

Currently closed due to lack of staff according to a sign on their entrance. (Bathrooms still accessible though)
