Lassen Volcanic National Park 🏞 My pictures just don’t do this park justice, parking easy to find, trails are well maintained. Beauty around every corner !! I LOVED that this park wasn’t overcrowded like Yosemite has been the last few times I’ve been. Highly recommend this park!!

This is a beautiful park with lots of different things to see. Mountains, lakes, trees, and of course the volcano and the molten rocks it left behind. The reason for 4 stars though is that the devastation from the recent forest fire is obvious and sad. Massive amounts of gorgeous old trees have been destroyed and lay charred on the ground or left standing like pillars of skeletons. These ashen totem poles are constant reminders of the drought and the horrific impact of global warming on the environment. While of course this is not something we should Ignore, it does distract from the beauty and serenity this park would normally provide. It’s hard to describe the overwhelming damage the fire has done to this park. But the trees that survived are beautiful and a testimony to the resilience of these majestic living things. The Cider Cone hike is not for the faint of heart. It is extremely steep and the trail up the volcano consists exclusively of loose rocks. However the views on top are spectacular (which includes the painted dunes which are magical), and should not be missed. Bring lots of water and be aware it’s very windy. We are lucky to have such an amazing protected piece of natural history, and it should be enjoyed as much as possible.

Fantastic National Park, like a mini Yellowstone, with places like Sulphur Works. Beautiful scenery and the drive both to and in the park are great. Really good place to go hiking and a great place to spend a weekend.

Lassen Volcanic National Park is a geological wonderland. We snowshoe'd up volcanoes and visited hot springs throughout the park. We stuck to the main thoroughfares for a while and then picked our own trail while snowshoeing up to Chaos Crag. I had to overcome a bit of altitude sickness, but it was totally worth it it. We visited the park for New Years and the place was full of families spending time sledding down many of the wonderful snowy hills. I would strongly recommend visiting this park, it's absolutely stunning.

Visited on 2022.July.22. This is the second time for me to visit this place, I am still enjoy it. It is only five hours drive from Bay Area. You can see all types of volcanoes and hot springs. Those pic in the end is the ones I took last year when there are wild fire around.

I recently moved to California from Florida so I was probably not prepared for the level of hiking but it was a blast and beautiful! My son and I hiked up Cinder Cone (which was an experience to say the least). This park has lots to see and over 100 miles to hike and camp.

It is really worth the trip. There are many spots. The drive through this elevation of 8500ft is truly amazing. We visit first week of June . The roads were just reopened hence it was all snow everywhere. Only few trails were open .

We absolutely loved this park, it features geothermal area that are extremely rare outside of Yellowstone. The park, like the popular parks of the NPS, will be busy on holiday weekends. We would advise people to keep in mind that this park is in the mountains and gets significant amounts of snow. Spring and Fall in lower elevations is still winter in higher elevations. The trail will be open, but do you have the gear to hike when there is snow? It is not the fault of the Parks Service that you did not know that there would snow in a place that gets a lot of snow. Come prepared if you are hiking up to the top of Lassen, hiking poles and microspikes are highly recommended. The national parks are not Disney, they are not easy places to get around, you need to be prepared. The park service will not give refunds for you lack of prior knowledge.

Absolutely amazing! Bathrooms were clean and rangers were friendly and helpful. Lots of great hiking trails, ranging from easy to expert difficulty levels. Saw a couple waterfalls, lots of beautiful lakes, views and the geysers did not disappoint. The only negative, was the signs at the tourist stops were worn and a couple, hard to read. But it’s completely understandable after last winter’s snow fall. In fact, there was still snow on the ground in August!! Bring warm clothes, lots of water, snacks and appropriate shoes. The lakes were incredible, and some people could be seen paddle boarding and kayaking. Though the water was definitely cold, and someone could easily become hyperthermic when swimming. So be cautious. Only regret was not spending more time. Will definitely plan a camping trip to explore more.

Lassen Volcanic National Park is a spectacular park that is well worth visiting. It offers miles of hiking trails with beautiful views. Most of those trails lead you to an amazing volcanic activity that are only accessible on foot. Make sure to stop by visitor center and watch the short documentary on the history of the park, it’s very informative and it’s FREE! Please check conditions before your trip because this park usually closed from October to June due to snow. We stayed at Manzanita lake campground in cabins. You have to bring your own bed sheets, also there is no electricity inside the cabin. But you get a heater so you won’t be cold at night. There are a small store and a gas station on the site of this campground. It’s very convenient. The lake is great for canoeing, fishing and has easy trail around it.

Beautiful place to go. Can’t believe it took us so long to get here when we are native Californians. The south entrance only let us drive 1 mile into the park and it was so great. Even with the road closures we got to see a lot of beautiful terrain and even a deer!

This one is my favorite since they have maintained it so well. The roads are super clean and looks newly built. Gift shop is great stop for getting info on the history about this landscape. You can request to play the film of 20-25 mins on the history of this place. I recommend keeping 2 days if you are here to touch on only couple of hot spots but overall great national park. Amazed to see this natural beauty.

A natural beauty! Super clean with so many peaceful spots and clean lakes and hiking trails. The hills surrounding the area makes it even more beautiful. Lava rocks and sulphur mud pots make it so natural and unique.

I went around June of 2021 during a RV trip through Northern California. I'm not a volcano person at all but thought it was amazing to see the volcanic activity actually making its way to the surface. There are lots of trails and cool things to see around there so make sure you research it before you go because you could miss out.

Beautiful national park! Partially closed in May when I was here due to snowed out roads, but was still able to do some hiking and Manzanita Lake. Visitor center and small store here also open. Awesome ranger staff!

One of the most amazing place you cannot miss if you are visiting shasta lake / burney falls. It will take you 2-3 hour / 1 day / 2 days depending on the number of activities you are planning to do. There are good routes to do trekking. It will take you atleast 3-4 hours to cross the national park including stopping at main attractions ( Suphur works, devastated area, kings creek, lake ) You will find people playing with snow at Kings creek, so be dressed accordingly. We were not aware of it since we went in the month of june and were not expecting snow

We loved it. We drove from north to south coming from the Redwood Forest. Made several scenic/information stops/trails along the way. It’s 8000 plus feet above sea level. What a sight to see. We walked the Bumpass Hell Basin which is three miles and takes about two hours or so with time for pictures. If you have the time and are up for it, don’t miss it. What an experience to see (and smell) the sulphur steam holes. And then a stop to sulphur works before exiting the park. Incredible! There are many trails of you have the time and are up for those. Bring your national parks pass if you have one to enter the park.

Excellent park, lotsa variety in what to see and do. Did a drive around and stopped at the main points of interest for us, took about 2 hrs overall. Lake Helen was our fav, and the sulfur bubbling mud hole 🕳 was quite interesting and odorous 🤢. Worth a stop plan it out as some of the hiking can be longer and more strenuous.

I LOVE this park! It’s kind of a sleeper hit but so worth a visit! We had a day and did the kings creek hike which was totally awesome and went and dipped our toes in the water. Weather was nice and refreshing in June and as a bonus we got to see a bear chilling in the meadow on the hike too! Great visitors center and such an awesome drive going through the park. Would absolutely come back and spend much more time here!

Just the little that I saw on a quick drive-through makes me want to return for a longer visit to see more. I got a couple of short hikes in. Cold boiling lake was a nice short .5 mile hike each way. Spend a few days here.

Do not sleep on this park! An easy drive from Redding, this park has a variety of landscapes to explore from thermal pools and mud pots to scorched forests surrounding alpine lakes! You can even climb up a (very, very steep) cindercone volcano. In late October, we found the park to be quite quiet and we had many of the trails to ourselves. Would 100% recommend visiting for park enthusiasts!

An amazing experience! This national park might be a better kept secret. There is plenty of space to spread out in the park and take in all the volcanic wonders. I loved the history tidbits with plaques showing how things changed from previous eruptions. The silver springs, alpine lakes, and facilities are all in excellent condition. You could easily do this in a day but I’m looking forward to heading back and staying for a few day!

We visited in September, 2023 - after Labor Day so glorious weather and no crowds. Lots of fire damage on the eastern side of the park but still a lovely drive around. The scenic drive through the park crosses 8500 feet of elevation, too. Make sure you check out Lake Helen, Bumpass Hell hike, and the Sulfur Pits by the southern visitor center at a minimum. The visitor center movie was well done and informative, too.

We visited Lassen in May and it was fantastic! Note: the trails are still snow covered and, at minimum, require snow shoes and walking sticks, so come prepared. The drive to the springs was closed so walked up that. It was about 60 with high-piled snow. Definitely recommend and very family friendly.

Absolutely fantastic place. Snow in July... awesome to see. Great hikes especially in the Butte lake area. Beautiful alpine high altitude lakes.

7/1/23 was the date of our visit. There was still a lot of snow which was beautiful but some of the best hiking trails were still closed. (Check their website) Pictures do not do this park justice. Take the time to watch the movie on the park at the museum at Manzanita Lake. It will help you appreciate more of what you are seeing as you drive through the park.

Beautiful park!! Loved hiking Lassen Volcano, came back down at sunset. Also took a dip in (freezing cold) crystal clear Lake Helen. Not too crazy busy at the end of September and the perfect mild weather.

On the far side you can climb to the center of the cinder cone and sit inside the volcano! We also saw a bear cub while hiking. The thermal pools were not crowded so you can see all the colors easily. At sunset they really looked vibrant.

Beautiful park. The main road was in good shape. Sulphur works are a great stop right along the road and Bumpass Hell is definitely worth the hike. Would like to come back to hike Lassen Peak.

Visited Bumpass Hell, hot springs. It is a nice little short 1 1/2 hike from the parking to the springs. There are some hills, but they are not long. The trail was crowded with visitors.

Nice park. Drive takes 2 hours with stops. Nice views. Still lots of snow in July. You can enter park from the north or the south. Largest visitor center is at the south entrance.

This park is a marvelous hidden gem. So few people I spoke to actually knew about it, and it was one of the most breathtaking to visit. There’s tons of trails and simple loop you can drive around to see most of the park in one or a few days. There’s a whole other side that’s also much less trafficked. The highlight is definitely the volcano summit. It’s a strenuous hike but doable for anyone in decent shape. Views at the top are majestic and so many interesting geological facts. Take a bathing suit - every lake is can be swam in and we cold plunged after the hike to get a feeling of 100% rejuvenation.

This was such a fantastic park! Note that most of it is at high elevations so dress warmly! Saw bears everyday I was there, overnight in the parking lot for 10$ (5 with access pass) free entry with access pass. Between the lava formations, abundant wildlife and beautiful lakes this place has it all.
