Very beautiful, well maintained clean park. Cash is not accepted in the ticket counter. Those who don't have debit or credit cards, ask help from other travelers and pay them cash. At the end of the park, there is water fall. Park your car at your own risk. There are security guards at the parking lot. Bolt taxi is available in this area. Good place for photographers. There is no need to get permission to take pictures using a tripod and a professional camera.

Beautiful park with a lovely waterfall. Great for picnics and hiking. Lovely place to spend a day in the great outdoors. Went on a busy day with a nice flea market and live performances. Great place for kids and adults alike, the kids play area was also good. The swings could be better maintained and so could be the toilets. Restaurant was okay too.

A truly fantastic botanical garden, offering a range of casual walks and rugged geological hiking trails for more adventurous sightseers. The gardens are well laid out and kept in stunning condition. There's plenty for the whole family to do, including play parks and trails for younger children, a beautiful restaurant and lots of open space to sit down, relax, and enjoy the view. The centre point of the gardens is the waterfalls, which is an absolute must see. There's a rugged path that leads to the top of the falls and up into the surrounding hills. It's tough going, hard on the knees but the views make it altogether worthwhile. Will definitely be back 😀

Amazing tranquil experience for the day. The grass is green and the place is super well kept. Plenty of shade and areas for picnicking. Watching the waterfall was super nice too. A few tips: -bring some walking shoes so you can explore around. The place is fairly large. -Entrance fee is R65 for adults.. R20 for kids (I think) - Alcohol is not allowed, but you can bring as many non alcoholic drinks you need, and picnic food -There are absolutely no bins at the whole place (for the life of me, I still don't understand why) - There's a restaurant, but probably bringing your own food is better

Always beautiful. I've come here twice before with people and mostly would picnic in the gardens. This was my first time coming alone and I decided to explore. This place is absolutely beautiful and needs at least 5+ hours to explore fully. I walked around the whole reserve, following all of the pathways to see where they'd lead. There's a quiet jungle gym and garden down one of the pathways, a good place to escape the bustle of the main gardens. If you continue further down that path you will come to a bird lookout. Allow yourself 10 minutes or so to sit and appreciate the various bird families that live in the pond. If you can stay quiet for a few minutes the wildlife comes to life before your eyes. I've never really understood the appeal of bird watching before, but I get it now, very therapeutic. Throughout the reserve you will notice various bird families and hear their melodic chirping. I didn't get a chance to hike up the waterfall, will definitely do it next time. I spent too much time wandering the gardens and pathways, but overall a beautiful day spent in nature. Take note that they only accept cards at the entrance, no cash. R65 for adults.

Beautiful hiking trail, beautiful scenery. A perfect spot to go and relax in nature. It is a short drive from either Pretoria or Johannesburg. If you want to do a lunch or picnic please use plastic containers like Tupperware because they do not have bin's for rubbish. Don't bring disposable cutlery. Respect Nature.

Waterfall is absolutely stunning! The hike is quite steep but definitely worth the view. I didn't see any eagles and there are no dustbins in sight. However the trail needs to be marked a bit better. The separate gardens are also worth a visit !

The garden is very well organized except the geological trail is closed for the moment due to maintenance. We could go half way only but it was nice too. I've seen so many birds, enjoyed the time. Wonderful place for a weekend picnic.

One of if not the best parks in Johannesburg! They have lots of picnic areas, I love the many benches you find around in the gardens (look out for them), they also have a restaurant where you can buy food or you can bring your own. Love coming here, especially during the week as some weekends its just too full. Great for the entire family, great place for you to cone enjoy the out doors and spend time with your loved ones. Keep up the great work👌🏿👏🏿👌🏿👏🏿👌🏿

Personally one of my favorite destinations for a picnic. The picturesque waterfall is always a treat. And the walk passes quickly to reach the waterfall with and the flowers and birds. Lots of grass and trees to sit under. The porters will carry your picnic goods to your your destination. R 70 for adults to enter is reasonable I feel. There is also a restaurant if you prefer that. The tiny train will get to close to the waterfall if your not in the mood to walk. There is a play area for the kids near the restaurant. Always a hit with the kids.

Nice garden. Entry to it is 20 rand for students or young people and 60 rand for adults. The place is beautiful with the sounds of birds, nature and waterfalls. There is a beautiful nature. There are turtles and rabbits. You can take your dog with you there for a walk in the weekend. The beauty of the place is indescribable

A beautiful, peaceful place. That hiking trail was so worth it. However be sure that you are fit and fully geared up because those inclines and declines are not for the faint hearted😁

Had a pleasant and relaxing afternoon at the place. Upon arrival, they adhered to covid protocols with social distancing at the entrance, and sanitising etc. You just have to note, they don’t take cash at the entrance. It’s only cars payment. The line marshals were very courteous, and made sure no one comes in alcohol and the portable loudspeakers. There are lot of shades dotted around the lawn, which allows for picnic spots for everyone. There a lot of benches as well around the entire place.

I have always wanted to visit and finally did for a family reunion. What a beautiful garden/park. Clean, peaceful and so beautiful. The obvious crowning glory is the waterfall. What a beautiful sight 😍. Beautiful hiking paths and shady spaces for a relaxing picnics. Loved the walk through the shade paths along the river and the description of the various rock formations. Definitely will go back to climb up cliff to see the black eagles.

A beautiful park with amazing picnic spots. It takes about an hour to walk around the park fully. There is a restaurant inside. The most interesting part of the park is the waterfall. Also there is a bird watching point.

Quite a bargain for ZAR 60 entrance fee, professional staff, well maintained and marked, magnificent views, the waterfall was my favourite. Tranquil picnic areas and chilling parks. The hike was a bit intense for perfect for hikers. It took me like 30-40 minutes but averagely people take more time. Family friendly and very safe. There’s a restaurant right at the entrance. Water bottle will come in handy. I will most definitely visit again. Perfect for picnic, hiking and even wedding or simply engagement shoots.

Such a stunning place and it's like breathing clean, fresh air. There is ample places to have a picnic and the views are immaculate. The only downside is that there are no Bins so you have to literally carry your garbage around but it's good for the environment I suppose. Just be sure to take something for your litter.

This botanical garden is such a nice place to visit! It is well kept, the grass is beautifully cut and green. Even though it is slightly dry here and there, it was still a pleasure to visit. Waiting for some rains to fall and will be visiting again! A lot of running area for kids with a nice play area, there is also a train which I think was R20 per ride that does a round in the gardens. Entrance was R70 per adult! Really worth visiting.

I love this gem of serenity in the midst of our urban jungle. The eagles were in full view today. My boys did the hike up the hill to get a closer view of their nests while I relaxed at the waterfall. We hadnt been to the park in a while and I had forgotten how serene it could be especially on a weekday morning. Kids will enjoy the wide open spaces with ample place to play, the rock walk and the swings. A definite must visit if you are looking some time out in nature.

A well stretched out botanical garden with a great variety of both flora and fauna. The fall is worth to visit. Saw the nest of the Black Eagles, who were not present at the time. Had a well served breakfast at the restaurant. 😋

Outside the busy city of Johannesburg. The Walter Sisulu botanical garden offers green grass, a tranquil environmental and calming waters including a waterfall. The entrance fee for adults is R80, you can purchase your ticket online or at the gate. Just a tip that it is a bin-free environment so have your plastic bag ready to pack up your litter after your picnic. The network connection is really bad too but I perceive this is a chance to connect with your loved ones without the disturbance of your phone. Great environment overall, I loved it.

What a gem. Beautiful scenery, black eagle breeding pair can be seen flying about. Waterfall, picnic spot. I love the fact that they search bags to ensure no liquor is taken in to the park. There are good hiking trails, space for kids to run and play, enough places to get something to eat if you have not brought anything with you. Bathrooms are clean and well maintained.

After looking tirelessly for a place that is child friendly while being able to get some cardio, I can say this is it. I'm in love with the whole experience, from the friendly security that checks tickets to the friendly birds my son made friends with 😅. It is so quiet not packed and there are a lot of private trails where you'd start thinking you are lost. Ample space for picnicking while social distancing. You can find a spot to picnic anywhere near where you are from the entrance to the waterfall. It is so safe that you don't worry letting the young ones run around. Overall a great experience can't wait to go back again. ❤️

This spacious garden with the amazing waterfall in the top corner is a great place to relax and unwind. The set up areas (geology, bird hide, paved paths) are really good. Although it was busy it is so spacious we did not feel it was crowded. We did not go to the restaurant, but it looked well patronised.

What a splendid day at the Botanical Gardens. The entrance fee is R60 and worth every cent. Well manicured lawns, clean outfield and great hiking trails. The waterfall is scenic and one could spend hours seated there listening to the sound of the water crashing down. I was lucky enough to catch a quick glimpse of the black eagle majestically flying up. And a quick shout out to the staff and guides who are very pleasant and helpful.

The Staff were very cheerful and helpful, loaning us a wheelchair for my friend who is on 24 hour oxygen. The gardens are looking quite sad at the moment, but taking into account the time of year with no rain yet, as well as the Covid restrictions, that is to be expected. I am sure that we will see a difference in 2 or 3 months' time. The Staff and surroundings at the restaurant were both pleasant and the tea, coffee, scones and muffins were great. We took advantage of the Pensioner's special (Tuesdays) so it was not expensive to sit and chat while having tea.

Entrance fee required (refer to website) My 1st time at the gardens and I was in awe. Surrounded by mother nature and the beauty of it. Walking paths are paved, jungle gym, tunnel & swings for kids, Toilets as you walk by, Tasty & affordable meals at the restaurant if you want to refresh with a soft drink, tea/coffees or spice it up with a spirit of your choice. Bring your own picnic basket and spend the day with your family and friends. Parking inside as well.

I absolutely loved this botanical park! It's so beautiful. I was so mesmerized by the Witpoortjie waterfall. I spent most of my visit literally just staring at the waterfall. 😍😍😍 The park is so clean and big enough to accommodate patrons especially for picnic vibes. I love the fact that there's a play area for the little ones. Just walking around the park was such a fun experience for me. This was definitely worth my time.

A true nature's gem right within the city! A massive garden beautifully maintained with loads of picnic spots all round. There's a hiking trail, restaurant, fountain for the kids to play in and a little train to take them on a mini tour for R20pp. The highlight must be the waterfall that turns out to be much higher and spectacular than it seems on photographs. With plenty of grass around the waterfall you can picnic while having it in view. You can easily spend a whole day there, hiking in the morning, having a picnic in the afternoon, enjoying the shaded lawns. Entrance is R65pp and free for kids under 6 (awesome), only payable by card, no cash. Even though the gates close at 17h00, visitors have until 18h00 to pack up and leave. A great visit for young and old to enjoy the outdoors and escape the city, in the city.

Really pretty place with the waterfall as the main attraction. We have been there today and did not see any sign of the eagles that are nesting there. The place is suitable to all. You can picnic if you do not want to walk, you can have short walks (a few hundred metres each) within the garden and you can take the 3.5 km hike which has a moderate difficulty rating. The hike starts with a fairly steep climb to the waterfall, continues with some further climbing to the top of the mountain top. There you continue at the top of the mountain for a few minutes and continue with a descent back to the garden. The takes about 3.5 hours and goes through the rock types and formations in the area. After not being in this place for quite a few years, I was please thly surprised of of how beautiful and how versatile the place is.

For an amateur botanist, geologist and historian like me, these Botanical Gardens offer much in the way of discovery and joy. Well maintained and staffed by friendly, helpful people makes it a true delight. With so much to see and do, I will definitely return again and again to learn more about the indigenous plant kingdoms. This is the place to go to reestablish your connection to nature and the cultures who place such high value on that connection.

Went there with my lady & our 5 year old. We first walked around the park looking at the plants, trees, etc before making our way to the waterfall (which is arguably the biggest attraction on the park by the way) to take some pictures before starting the 3.5 km hiking trail - starting point is right at the base of the waterfall. The hike was amazing but quite challenging due to some steep inclines and slopes especially on the east side of the trail, i definitely recommend a hiking stick or just a stick to help you balance as you navigate the trail - minus 1 star for the lack of clear markings on the trail, they are there but they are not very clear. After our hike we relaxed on the concert lawn to enjoy our picnic to wrap up the day.

R70 For adults. And Tuesday is free for pensioners. However I would pay for the 2 adults as on Monday when we went there we about 6 families walking. It was so peaceful. It almost feels like we had the whole nature reserve to ourself. Even in winter the plants are so beautiful and so well looked after. I don't suggest taking a picnic unless you are willing to clean up as there are no bins which is good as it keeps you from littering. Must thank the staff that we met along the way the place is so well kept so clean so wonderful. 1000% recommend

We attended the Christmas Wonderland. They did a wonderful job, the Christmas lights were stunning, the music was also lovely to listen to. If you attend any of their events I would suggest arriving early so that you are able to park inside. Parking can become quite hectic when it’s very busy. You can buy your tickets online or at the door. If you pay at the door they only accept cards not cash. The only thing I would suggest is that they clean their bathrooms. It was really unpleasant to go into a dirty and smelly bathroom. Otherwise it is a lovely place to relax and enjoy nature.

It was so lovely to be back at the Botanical Gardens...so amazing to see it's open for picnics now and you can bring your family to have a great time. We did a 7.33km trail and went over the mountain, what an experience, my family wants to now do this at least once a month. After the trail, we stopped at the Restaurant for some refreshments, amazing service and it was just so relaxing. Loved it, and we will be back next time with the whole family.

The hiking trail at Walter Sisulu National Botanical Gardens is ideal for people who are new at hiking. It is a moderate hike, along a short trail. There are beautiful views of the water fall. It is safe, we saw security guards as we hiked on some parts of the trail. The garden is on Malcom Road. It ca be accessed from Doreen and Hendrik Potgieter Roads.

Beautiful waterfall and there is a hike you can also take to the top of the waterfall which we didn't have time for but still an amazing location for a picnic or even just an adventurous walk. Have to comment about the creepy red and black locusts around!

Awesome!!! as always. Just sad that we have messy people who leave masks, water bottles etc. lying around. It is really not difficult to take your own litter home & leave this beautiful space clean for everyone else 😀

I completely love this place! I went on a little hike there & it was gorgeous. Well maintained and the hiking trail was such fun! They had removed their signage due to maintenance, but that was okay, the place is fairly easy to navigate. After I enjoyed a wonderful picnic and saw plenty of bird life. Definitely worth many, many visits!

Love thus place - so relaxing to visit. A fabulous place for a family day out. i was a little disappointed to see that it is looking a little bit sad. Some of the beds needed a good weeding and some of the plant labels were incorrect or missing

The place is well kept. It's a lovely place to picnic as the lawn is thick n lush. The waterfall is awesome to take a few pics. The ticket process was fairly quick and seamless. The restaurant is border line , doesn't serve the the best food but it's descent enough. Next time we will bring our food and picnic. All in all a great day out with the kids . If u have lil ones they will enjoy the little water fountain, remember to take a cozie or change of clothes for them.

Intense hiking trails that push your limits - also ample picnic areas for the family to hang out. There are places to eat inside the garden, and there is sometimes day/evening markets running in the garden. There should be one all September

The Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens are in a grand condition. The lawns and gardens are well-kept and tidy, there were enough staff to purchase tickets from, and they had a card machine. I was very pleased to see how busy it was. I highly-recommend this day trip, with walks through different biomes and of course the hike up the koppie to see the view.

A very timid and laid-back setting, where one can wind down and take in the natural world. Facilities are great, the park is well maintained, and is a great place for a picnic with the family. The hike is a bit challenging, however the views from the peak are rewarding. Prices are also affordable. Would recommend!

A wonderful place to find some peace in the city. The garden is pure pleasure for bird lovers and for those interested in our rich heritage of indigenous plants. Remember: Tuesdays are Pensioners Day and entry is free. PS: the restaurant is not bad either.

Very beautiful, tranquil environment. I can never get over the views and the picnic areas (plenty of shaded areas to choose from). Bring your own stuff to make your experience memorable. My one issue is this bin free policy kinda sucks not having anywhere to dispose of waste and request people to not litter🤔

It’s a beautiful place to visit with family, friends or alone, for picnic, reading, being creative, or whatever you’re into. It is nice and clean. When we were there there it was quiet, which is perfect for enjoying the place without worrying about anything.
