Authentic representation of African Spirituality. A glimpse at ancient history. uBaba Credo is a true griot, a national treasure. The South African government & citizens need to work harder to preserve and protect this sacred site, our heritage.

First of all, I used to go there as a kid, it was wonderful hence two stars, it was well taken care of and once upon a time kids could go there and feel safe along with their families, and while there may be a park specifically for children...The park feels extremely shady to bring your kids now. The entire recreation has been abandoned and there's even squatter camps there... The sculptures have been dilapidated, if there's any one who knows someone who could help that park to gain revenue and be repaired that would be amazing...but otherwise, don't go, it isn't safe until it can be restored.

I have high respect for the late Baba Credo Mutwa. One of his last initiates, Lebo provided a personal tour. After reading 2 of his books I never imagined this village would be so sacred and that he was a painter and a sculpture. This prophet's prophecies can be found there. If you do not know who he is please listen to his YouTube presentations and visit this village. I can feel his presence there.

Great place to be, rich in African history and stories untold. Our tour guide Lebo was on point. Only if the village was better maintained.

That place was used to be clean before but now is filthy, building is not renovated any more

  • 4/5 Neil J. 7 years ago on Google
Underrated, if its myths and legends and African Folklore you're after. This would be a great place to start. Credo Mutwa used to live here, and built a whole fantastical village. The Guides on site are knowledgeable and bring the stories to life. Bring a picnic basket and eat in the gardens after.

Oppenheimer Tower provides an unmatched view of Soweto. Highlight was the tour guide, was very knowledgeable and nice. Learnt alot from him in conversation that felt less like a drawn out tour guide lecture and more like a first hand retelling from someone who has actually present through the history of Soweto. Definitely reccommended.

It was a nice experience observing the village. However, this place has been abandoned and is no longer being maintained. There were individuals inside the huts chilling and trash spread out in different areas.

(Translated by Google) A breath of fresh air in Soweto and far from tourist routes and very close to a neighborhood museum relating the apartheid period. Note that these two sites are free entry (Original) Petite bouffée d'oxygène à Soweto et éloigné des axes touristique et tout proche d'un musée de quartier relatant la période de l'apartheid. A noter que ces deux sites sont en entrée libre

😐 The memorial tower with the 10 chapters of the freedom charter worth a visit. However, the whole area very neglected and dirty. Why the residents of Soweto take so little pride in their history is a mistery to me.
