Monticello’s Restaurant Sedgefield is on the opposite side of the Spar on the highway. A restaurant well signed on the roof out but deceiving from the outside as rather large inside. The Restaurant as a guess will sit around 200 people inside making it a good place to hold events in winter and summer. Many restaurants on the garden route work on a 50% inside and 50% outside sitting arrangement where this is 100% inside. 70% is in the main building and 30% is on the deck with full pull-down covers to ensure protection from heat, wind, or rain. I can imagine it can be rolled up on a hot day and opened as an outdoor section if desired. The magnificent ambiance and we planned a party for 14 people. It was well organized, and the Owner Anita was always prompt with my WhatsApp arrangements. There is a full bar with anything from beers, ciders, spirits, cocktails, and Don Pedro’s. There is plenty of parking outside and it is wheelchair / elderly-friendly. Not ideal for young children but maybe for teenagers and above. The food varies; however, we selected a larger group and a smaller menu. The majority went for the Sea Food paella which was good (but I have been spoilt by real Spanish Paellas – I would rate this 70% as good). The real specialty is beef espetada which came in a small size with chips and a large size with chips and a Portuguese roll. They were drizzled with garlic butter and a few people claimed it was the best Espetada they have ever eaten. I tried a piece, and it was magnificent. There are starts and desserts, however, their positions as quite large so leave space for the main meal. I only had space for a Paella and a Don Pedro with Frangelico(which was not the best one I have had – rated average) On the whole it was a magnificent experience – with fantastic service. I would highly recommend this restaurant

First off, the outside looks great and mirrors what you would expect on the inside. It is cozy and warm. The staff is very quick and friendly. The portions are massive! This means you actually get what you pay for. My plate was so full there wasn't space left for any extras. This restaurant definitely deserves a 5 star! Would definitely recommend when in Sedgefield or when passing through Sedgefield. Amazing experience.

25 years of consistent perfection, I have travelled the world and this gem demands respect and praise. The food, service, atmosphere make for a dining experience to remember.

Most delicious prawns i have had in a long time , juicy , crispy , tasty, Wow factor here , and chocolate cheese cake with orange to finish off , delicious 😋

Great selection of food at reasonable prices. I ordered the Sole, and I am sorry to say that I was a bit disappointed. The portion was very generous, but the crumbs on the outside of the Sole was overcooked to the point that it took the flavor and taste of the fish away from an otherwise perfect dish. My son ordered a pizza, which he thoroughly enjoyed. They could also not give me a Coke Light with my drink that I ordered, which was another downer for me. Be it as it may, I will still rate them as one of the best restaurants in Sedgefield and surrounding areas.

I ordered the tentacle starter, which was the worst I've ever tasted - rubbery and with a burnt taste. Our main of grilled hake was good, served with a scoop of lovely lentil/mint/couscous salad. Service was good, good wine selection. We don't eat meat, but I believe the fillet espetada is outstanding.

They came highly recommended via Google review. Always weary when it seems too good to be true but decided to give it a go and wow, we were blown away! Bear in mind that Sedgefield is a small coastal town...the first slow town in SA....and not exactly the hub of the Garden Route. MONTECELLO'S did not disappoint. Very old school in decor ...pretty tables, white table cloths.....But I missed a single candle on the table....! The food was next level good. I had the most tender fillet espetada ever! The boys had rump with chips and sauce, the girl child had beef croquettes and some grilled vegetables. Steaks came with chips and peas and delicious quinoa salad. Portions were generous. Service was amazing without being pretentious (thx Casey). BEST STEAKS EVER apparently grilled by the owner who has been at it for 40years. We all eat our steaks differently- medium, medium rare, rare and everyone's plate came at the same time perfectly cooked and stayed warm too. I am super impressed and wished I went there every night. Prices are also really good! Yay! They were busy but not fully booked on a Wednesdays in the December holidays. We got a table 'outside'. I suggest you book though just in case!

Best restaurant in the Garden route. Excellent food delightful service. Always welcoming. We will return again and again and never be disappointed.

Definitely try the espatada, maybe ask for a slightly bigger butter block for the top but otherwise great service and food. Best is to book a day before at least, its a popular place and can fill up quick. Will definitely visit again when in Sedgefield I'm future :D

Got the cheese, chilli steak pizza. I like it, 8/10. Wood fire is the best.

Country style restaurant. Not glitzy, not glamorous but friendly and comfortable. Wholesome food. Well-prepared. Worth a visit if you are in town.

The food is excellent and the portions are big (bigger than usual). It is really good value for money. I would recommend this to anyone. It is quite popular so it is recommended to book beforehand. We did not book and the place was full, but they made a plan and seated us o a outside table.

WOW! My husband and I decided to have dinner here on our last night of our holiday. Exquisite!!!! The attention is given to the right things, the FOOD!!! Great ambience and great food. Will definitely visit again in the future!

In general the staff are very friendly, nice menu my only problem was the paella is just a seafood mix served on plain rice, the pasta dishes were very good.

Their food is amazing. We have been here before but yesterday’s visit left a bitter taste. We arrived at 4pm for an early dinner. I presume it was the manager who greeted us hurriedly and made us (husband and wife with two young children) sit at a 10 seater round table. She made us feel very unwelcome and in the way. At that time there were only 4 tables occupied. By the time we left just before 6pm, there were NO other patrons. The place was empty!! We would have enjoyed our dinner a lot more if we were seated at a proper table. We spent R1200. You have lost a customer because of bad attitude.

Accomodation: Setup acceptable, price was good. BUT you will need to accept Bedding were a dirty duvet inner without a duvet cover. Bathroom mat looks disgusting, was torn. Blanket need some TLC. Curtains were not hangup properly. Big question on how higenic is room. Can see management are not involve or little involve in accomodation setup. I had to asked for toilet paper as there was hardly in the toilet. Had to ask for another blanket as the duvet is very thin and this is the middle of winter. Only SABC channels. No wifi. You have a kettle with coffee powder, sugar and powder milk. Hot water to shower. Small towels.

Everything was fine until I found 2 hairs, 1 I thought was mine so I left it then the 2nd was actually baked into my food, which the manager tried to imply I was lying by asking what kind of hair and that her staff in the kitchen didn't have hair. Then how was it literally baked into my spinach and cheese pizza? I would of left it as a mistake but to be made out a liar is unacceptable. Otherwise the dessert was great.

What a treat! An unexpected gem in the heart of Sedgefield. Huge portions, excellent pizzas, mouth-watering espetadas and friendly, efficient service... you couldn't ask for much more. Also a very reasonably priced establishment. I have a feeling that every dish on the menu is a goodie. Will have to come back on our next trip to the Garden Route and try some of the seafood dishes.
