This place was surprisingly great! I'm not generally a fan of captive animal enclosures but this was very well run, and has an excellent ethos that is focused on conservation. Pro tip: visit in the later part of the day as the animals are *very* active! We got caught in a snarling match between four lions (we were safely on the walkway between them). It was quite a spectacular experience... The animals are fed at 4pm but not while visitors are there, so it's better to arrive late in the day while the cats are active in anticipation of feeding time.

After a couple of days in the local area, we popped into Jukani and joined a guided tour for a look around this wonderful wildlife sanctuary. Our guide Elvis was fabulous. He took us around, enclosure by enclosure helping us to locate and observe each animal, telling us all about them. It was incredibly interesting, and sometimes sad to know why the animals were there, but it's clear to see they are receiving the very best care in as natural environment as it's possible to keep them. We are huge animal lovers, esp big cats, and often visit zoos back in the UK as it's the only way to see these wonderful animals. However, Jukani doesn't feel like a zoo. Elvis is very passionate about the animals, and the respect he has for them is clear to see. It was a wonderful experience, and we would love to go back, and to visit the sister parks someday. Also, the gift shop was fabulous. We bought t-shirts and all our holiday gifts there, lovely selection. Thanks, keep doing what you're doing!

We went to the jukani wildlife sanctuary with a group of three and it was an amazing experience. We got our own private guide who was a big source of information. From everything about prides to the differences between leopards and jaguars. This sanctuary really cares about all the big cats. Would definitely recommend!

A good walk with a friendly and very informative tour guide (Hayden). This type of sanctuary is not uncommon and is needed in today's world. They're doing good work here at Jukani. If you feel uncomfortable (or triggered, to use a better word), speak to your tour guide about the animals. Ask him/her where the animal came from. While the park is small, it is certainly not a tourist trap and it is certainly not expensive. From someone who has been to many zoos, reserves and sanctuaries, what stood out for me was the knowledgable tour guide; I learnt quite a bit from him. If you're in the area, it's not a bad way to spend about 90 minutes.

The Jukani Wildlife Sanctuary is predominantly a big cat sanctuary, but they have other wild animals there as well. They only do guided tours and we were lucky to get a guide who was very passionate about conservation. He was very patient and let us spend all the time we wanted at each enclosure, and was more than willing to answer all the questions we had about the animals. All the animals have big enough enclosures, well laid out as close as possible to their natural environment. The experience is completely worth it and I can honestly say that I have more knowledge as well as appreciation for those animals. On the property there is also a coffee shop as well as a puzzle park. At the ticket office you are also able to purchase tickets to the Bird's of Eden as well as Monkeyland sanctuaries. My wife and I really had a good time and can recommend this experience for adults as well as children. I would just like to also mention that this is a sanctuary not a zoo and that all the animals look very happy and healthy. They have all been rescued from private owners. All the female are on birth control, and the sanctuary is a no-touch facility.

Absolutely amazing experience! Our guide Elvis was phenomenal so much knowledge and could even answer all my 5 year olds 1000s of questions with enthusiasm and passion. You can clearly see the animals are well taken care of and that they are even spoken to by all the staff with such positive affirmation. Those BIG cats are enjoy their retirement home to the max! 😆

We had a great tour at Jukani, our guide Ashley, was awesome and certainly knew her stuff, as well as you could tell how passionate she is about what she does. The animals are well looked after in big spacious enclosures. Definitely the best to go early morning or late afternoon in order to see the cats at their most active

We did the tour with our young kids some time back. It was a bit long for them but they thoroughly enjoyed the different cats and tigers around. Most were sleeping so best to find the correct tour time - perhaps closer to a feeding time if that's possible.

Our guide Tom was incredible. Very knowledgeable and considerate of our young children taking their time. Loved walking around and seeing the animals so close and hearing about their past. Worth getting a guide for the walk around. I would definitely recommend and even go again as my children grow up.

It was amazing to see these animals. We were there just before feeding time and the big cats was walking up and down the fence. It was exhilarating to hear the roars of the big cats. One doesn't realise how big these animals truly are. The animals are well fed and looked after. There are information boards at each cage, some of the animals are under veterinary supervision. There is an option to take a guide with you. They are also busy with upgrades and there are a few figures coming to the sanctuary in July.

We loved our visit to Jukani. Elvis our guide was really informative and one could feel his love for the animals. To see these magnificent cats in their natural habitats and living out their days in privacy and with respect was truly a blessing! Well done on this amazing initiative.

We went at 10 am. It was very hot and the animals were hiding in their shelters or the shade. 5 of the big cats we didn't see 😞 the guide told us that it was feeding time from 3pm, and then all the animals were out and active. So next time we will go at 3. It was still a very good experience all in all. The tigers gave us a good show 👌 Take water with. It gets HOT. Tour lasted about an hour

We were a bit disappointed not being able to see much. When we got half way a friendly man working there must of seen our disappointed in the scorching heat and said its best to come during feeding times as the animals anticipate meal times and come out waiting for their food. That was kind, but also a bit late to tell us. That info would of been appreciated at Reception where we paid close to R1000. Other than that I can understand the cost because of the upkeep of the grounds and the feeding of the animals.

We bought the combo ticket to see all 3 parks. Was good to see some lions and tigers in a natural habitat and not completely caged up like in a zoo. Parks are well looked after (naturally) and the tour guide was informative about each cat in the park The honey badger 🦡 had me with his running in circles . Do cute and jolly

We got so lucky and saw every predator bar the leopards. I was very impressed with the enclosures. Safety for both the cats and visitors. Lots of photo opportunities with the steps and viewing platforms. Clean sanctuary, friendly staff. We got a voucher for burger and fries and drink for 80R, it was declisious. Well worth a visit!

Fantastic to see these wild cats in a semi-wild environment. Enclosures are well maintained and cats look healthy and happy

Good guide with a great sense of humor enlivened our cat experience. He was knowledgeable and patient to allow ample time for photography. The center should be commended for its animal care and ethos.

  • 5/5 Delton A. 2 years ago on Google
This was great service provided all around and the guide Elvis was extremely passionate about the animals and entertained all questions without 1hint of irritation. I think the price per person is nothing to pay compared to what is needed for the upkeep of the place...

If you're in Plett, do your family a favour and visit this amazing sanctuary!! Best visited in light rain, when the animals like to come out.

The family really enjoyed our time at Jukani. It is a bit pricey, but they are a sanctuary and taking care of beautiful animals. They also have a toilet half way, good for the little kids (and bladders).

Jukani Boma Dinner Saturday 2nd December 2023: What an incredible experience, from the welcoming reception and meet and greet to the food which was absolutely delicious to the night safari with very friendly and knowledgeable guides ended with coffee in reception - absolutely well worth it 10/10

We went to the puzzle park as we were too later in the day to visit the wildlife sanctuary (be aware of Sunday opening times, we forgot it was even a Sunday!). The 3D maze was really good fun and a decent enough challenge to be hard without being so hard that the kids would lose interest.

Oh my goodness! This place is absolutely amazing. You can see that the animals are very carefully cared for and in fantastic condition. They look healthier than some peoples pets and have plenty of space, but also carefully thought out spaces between the enclosures so that they aren't able to upset each other (in terms of territories etc.). It's really worth a visit.

  • 3/5 Jenita E. 2 years ago on Google
Bit disappointing. Feel like you in a zoo and on a hot day it is very difficult to see the animals. Hope the animals are happy in this setup.

Oh what a wonderful experience! We saw all the big cats as advertised. We had such a great time , hearing the Lions roar was the highlight of our tour. The tour guide was very friendly and informative too. We learnt something new about each and every animal we saw there. The most exciting thing about Jukani is that your ticket is valid for the whole day, so if you did not see the animals in the morning, you can come back in the afternoon.

An absolutely wonderful experience and impressive in terms of the incredible range of cats, many very rarely seen in SA (jaguars and tigers), as well as the informative and fascinating insight and information provided by our guide. The cats are rescues from zoos that have closed down and from the pet trade. The cats have very large landscapes and wooded areas in which to roam. There is no coercion to get the cats to come closer (but we still had wonderful sightings of them) and they are allowed to remain as wild as possible, given that they were born into captivity. A very remarkable conversation sanctuary and recommended to all Garden Route visitors.

I am a fan of seeing animals in an open environment or close range. Both of such experiences were not available here. The reason is, this is the shelter of rescued animals. These are wild beings who were kept captive since birth.. you get to see and know a few things with the help of a guide, but doesn't not feel adventurous while visiting this place.

  • 5/5 Sydney L. 1 year ago on Google
The most incredible experience seeing these beautiful creatures up close. The guide was knowledgeable and kind. It was such a pleasant tour as the gentleman shared stories about each rescued animal with our family.

  • 5/5 Ajmal H. 1 year ago on Google
Really praise worthy job the sanctuary is doing. Quite a bit of the big cats present there has been rescued and given proper help and care by the sanctuary. Nearly each animal present has a story on their own. Rescued from poachers, zoos and even circus. Thumbs up for the staff helping to maintain the place. Using Google navigation maps it's very easy to reach the sanctuary

  • 5/5 Vladimir A. 1 year ago on Google
A big cat sanctuary where you can see lions, tigers (both Siberian and Bengal, and even the white one), leopards, jaguars and other cat species. A good place to bring your kids with! An excursion usually takes about an hour, but one can just walk around without joining and excursion.

  • 5/5 Isabelle D. 2 years ago on Google
We had a great tourguide who took the time and told us a lot about all the animals. The park is great! They take good care of the animals are not focussing on tourist attraction like many others. You get to see a wide range of animals from tigers to lions up close. Definately worth a visit if you are in Plet.

  • 4/5 Amir A. 1 year ago on Google
We decided to come to the Jukani Sanctuary because we didn't get the opportunity to see the large cats during our Safari in Kruger. You have the option to do a tour with a guide or walk alone through the park. We decided to do the tour and waited about 25 min for the tour to start. They have a Cafe and games while you wait - so we did that and browsed the gift shop. If you do come to the sanctuary, I would recommend doing the tour with the guide. The guide really cared about the animals and helped point them out. He also shared facts about the cats and answered any questions about the sanctuary and the animals they have there. While it's a bit sad for the cats they have there - they gave us the opportunity to see cats we would never have been able to see. Additionally what do you do with large animals that grew up in captivity? The sanctuary did save the cats from breeding facilities and offer a large cage for them to live in peace. One of the highlights was that we got to hear the lions roar and all the cats talking back - super cool! If you want to see large cats, I would recommend going the sanctuary.
