Guides are so friendly, funny, and knowledgeable. The tour is shorter than I expected it to be and felt a bit rushed. The overall experience is really lovely. It’s so rare to be able to be this close to elephants. They run off of positive reinforcement with treats. The gift shop is full on incredible options. Highly recommend picking up a few things here. You will not find this type of work in tourist gift shop places like the airport

Lloyd and his amazing crew provided my boyfriend and I the most magical experience ever. We booked the full day Elephant Keeper for a day program and it did not disappoint. We were able to brush, feed, and walk with the elephants — while all the while, learning everything and anything there is to know about elephants from Lloyd and his amazing crew. The interactions, knowledge and pure magic that we were able to experience is something I know my boyfriend and I will treasure forever. This elephant sanctuary, program and overall experience was well worth the six hour drive from Cape Town to Plettenberg. 10/10 would recommend!!!!

Super friendly staff. The experience is so amazing and the time went by so fast😍they will give you information about the elephants then they will introduce your own elephant to you and their name ,age..etc then you’ll walk with your own elephant and feed him😍also, you can purchase the video they recording to your group at the end. I wish if they provide “elephant ride” experience.

It has always been a dream of mine to be able to hang out with an elephant and experience their majestic nature up close. This place was excellent for that! We booked the brushing experience and walking tour with the elephants first thing in the morning on Tuesday. Our main guide was so passionate about the elephants and knew the answers to all my questions. I can see how some people may think this is touristy. In fact, a lot of people just come to these places to say they took pictures with an elephant and touched one. The guides at first seemed like they were just going through the motions with the routine of brushing, teaching, walking the elephants, etc. but once they saw I had a giant elephant tattoo on my forearm and genuinely cared about learning more about the elephants and less about the pictures, they warmed up to me. The time slot allowed of 1 hour does not allow you to truly connect with an elephant and observe their behavior, however, it does let you interact with an elephant, learn about their anatomy and behavior, connect with wonderful guides and feed them apples. As an elephant “novice” this place was exactly what I was looking for. If you’ve been to a bunch of elephant sanctuaries, going off other people’s reviews, it may be different than what you’re expecting. But the elephants are healthy, happy and the guides are truly committed to taking care of them (most of the elephant keepers + guides sleep with them every night to protect them from poachers), which to me, is wonderful. And I will remember their passion and the beautiful memories of Thandi, Marula and Jabo forever.

What an awesome adventure walking with these giants. The Elephant Sanctuary cares for elephants that would not survive naturally in the wild. We were able to take photos & video, feed them, walk with them tunk in hand. The guides were fantastic explaining, showing and guiding us around these majestic animals. I can highly recommend the experience, especially for families.

It was an incredible experience and the highlight of our trip. Thandi, Marula and Jabu are gentle souls and holding their trunks and they my hand is something I will never forget. The park itself is located behind Birds of Eden so my friend and I were able to do all three on one day. Keep in mind that tours start at specific times but there is a waiting area if you arrive early where you can help yourself to a 'on the house' cup of tea or coffee. There are guides that give you a brief introduction to the anatomy of elephants and some fun details whereafter the walk with the elephants begin. That is really the highlight. You also get to feed them and get to know their individual preferences. Voluntary* the guides can be tipped so please take some cash with. They greatly appreciate this and it is mentioned at the end of the tour. They do take hordes of free photos for you. 😊👍 The cost for an hour guided tour is R680 and goes towards running the sanctuary and conservation. I would definitely support these initiatives in the future and visit again. Parking is grass and I would not reccomend wheelchair-bound people as the camps are gravel and grass, but they can still be seen in their night-time shelters.

The Elephant Sanctuary is the perfect place to visit if you are an animal or elephant lover. The elephants are majestic and the most gorgeous gentle giants. We walked hand in trunk with them and fed them multiple times. The tour guides were all very educated about elephants and certainly taught us various new facts. The elephants are very well looked after - this makes my heart so happy! Keep up the excellent work guys.

Very careful and lovely treatment of the animals which were calm and had good manners. It’s a great project and rescue place for them. The animals are safe and used to people and it seemed like they enjoyed the contact with the visitors. We went on a „happy Elefant day“ (=rain day) and got coats to walk with the elefants through the forest and got a very lovely experience.

What a moment. To be able to stand next to these majestic animals and realize the beauty and gentleness of these great animals. We are wasting and damaging our own resources, the human race (not everyone) I am generalising, just seems to no longer care. Do this with your children and grand children while you still can. The people looking after these beautiful animals pour their life and soul into caring for them. Enjoy relax and breathe.

Absolutely amazing place, you interact with the elephants, by brushing them down and feeding them, then you hold their trunk and walk in front. The keepers were excellent they care and treat them wonderfully

Mixed feelings about this... enjoyed the facts about the elephants and hearing the personal details of each one, as well as the interaction you are able to experience with such a majestic beast! However, the whole tour felt a bit rushed and pushy with a showcase performance, also shoving as much photography and activity as possible for us 'tourists'. I would have far much preferred the photography done by ourselves in our own free will, also touching and caressing the elephant ourselves in a relaxed way and own time without having the elephant advertised to us. There should be an option of paying to feed the animal as an extra on top of just being able to spend time near the elephant. The whole walk thing seems a bit unnecessary. I would be happy to just stroke the trunks, talk to the elephants, and/or feed them casually.

Truly one of the most incredible experiences I’ve ever had. My girlfriend and I booked the full day elephant keeper program, and I cannot say enough about how truly remarkable the experience was. The Sanctuary itself was very clean, well-maintained, and is built around creating the best possible environment for the animals. Our guide, Lloyd, was extremely charismatic and entertaining, but you could sense immediately how much care and respect he has for the elephants. The rest of the team was very nice and insightful about each of the elephants and their unique personalities. I will say that the half-day program probably would have sufficed to learn and interact with the animals, but for the money, I was happy to pay extra to spend more time with these truly fascinating animals. Once-in-a-lifetime experience that I will be recommending to anyone coming to South Africa.
