Kringe In N Bos Hiking Trail

Tourist attraction Hiking area

👍👍 What a delight! The road leading up to the hiking trail can be a little heady for smaller / lower vehicles to get to, but once there you can't help but be mesmerised by the beauty of the natural forest around you. The trails are well kept, well marked (despite some other comments) and not too stren... People often mention trail, forest, walk, hike, picnic, beautiful, hiking, start, route, clean,

Amazing 9 km forest walk. This is how I would imagine what it could look like to hike through a rainforest. The walk is relatively easy and woods very dense but with a clear footpath to walk along. Many mushroom and moss species along the walk.

Kring In N Bos / Circle in the Forest is even more beautiful than I imagined. I did the short 3km with two non hiking kids and it was perfect. Now I look forward to doing the 9km hike so I can take lots more photos and enjoy being out in nature.

Thisb s one of the most serene and beautifull walls in the Knysna area. It also has a number of large indigeneos yellowwood and stinkeood trees. The path runs deep into the forest and there is both a 3km and a 9km walk. Picnick tables are available at the start of the trail for those who might want to wait while others leisurely stroll along the route. We did this with young children which was quite an easy walk, but the kids absolutely loved the experience of walking through the forest.

Beautiful walk through the forest with well maintained trails. There is signs along the trail to give you information about what you are seeing. I was struck by the sheer level of bird songs on the path.

The 'Kringe in die Bos' hiking trail offers an invigorating blend of moderate challenges and serenity, making it a delightful outing for any nature aficionado. The trail demands a good pair of comfortable hiking shoes, as some terrains alternate between flat lands to slightly rugged spots where clambering over tree roots becomes part of the adventure. Clear distance markings ensure you're well-informed of the journey ahead, eliminating any guesswork. The trail meanders through a lush, natural forest adorned with a spectacular display of ferns, accompanied by the soothing babble of water streams coursing through the landscape. Every breath is a treat here, with the crisp, clean air filling the lungs, and the unique forest aroma engaging the senses. The ambiance is nothing short of therapeutic. The symphony of nature's sounds and the verdant sights are the epitomes of an escape to the wild. Whether you're an avid hiker or someone simply looking to embrace nature's tranquility, 'Kringe in die Bos' is a trail worth every step. The hearty recommendation for this place is well-deserved, and a visit here should feature on any hiking enthusiast's itinerary.

If you want to get an idea of what the forests along the garden route looks like, then look no further. The 9km route offers big trees, water streams, ferns, mushrooms, the odd spider and all the sounds of a real forest. Oddly enough we didn't see any birds. The trail is mostly easy going but does offer at least one steep down hill (around the 4km mark) followed by quite a long uphill. The uphill is mostly done on a narrow 2 track path (see one of my photos), which starts at the 6km mark. The path crosses a water stream at the 4,5km mark which offers a good opportunity to have a few snacks. We didn't use Krisjans-nek picnic site, but it looked clean and well maintained. The picnic site offers toilet facilities, but these are long drops and are about as hygienic as they can be. The entrance to the national park provides proper toilets.

Very beautiful trail, sitting next to the stream is so relaxing. There is a shorter and longer loop available plus a picnic spot at the start/finish. Can definitely recommend.

We did the 9 km hike it was tough but worth it. Beautiful scenery and fresh air. Most of the hike is in the shade but prepare yourself for the last 3 km uphill! Website does not state: They open at 7 am and no dogs allowed.

The most magical indigenous forest! We have a toddler so didn't do the whole walk, just took our time meandering down the path and turned back again when she got tired. She loved looking for frogs, touching the moss, and hanging out in the trees. We were struck by the sheer beauty of it. There are lovely brick braai places available so want to return to make a day out of it!

Well worth the trek. Even the shorter route is slightly technical though but our 5y old managed with a little help (he was a trooper though) 😁. Ablutions and picknick areas well maintained and clean (well done SANParks)

Fantastic forest walk. Did the 3km route, got sweaty, grubby, scratched and covered in spiderwebs. Loved every minute and will do it again soon.

Friendly SANPARKS staff at sign in. At the trail head one of our party complained that the door to the ladies toilet was stuck and mentioned it to some staff there, on our return it was fixed. Lovely forest walk, lots spectacular fungi noticed.

Great hiking experience. We only had time for the short trail that took us just over an hour to do. Beautiful, peaceful, and feels very safe. Highly recommend!

This was a bucket list hike. We visited the area on day 1 for the 9km hike (3km & 9km are your options). The route is perfectly marked (every 500m has a route marker). We are not trained hikers, but it was well manageable (it does include some long steep hills). These hikes start from the Daleen Matthee tree @ Krisjan se Nek. On day 2 we visited the Jubilee Creek picnic spot and did a short hike (1.8km one way) from the picnic site. This is an easy hike through the forest to a waterfall and swimming pond (it includes 3 river crossings without getting wet, just be careful). Entry was R59 per adult (RSA resident). Wild Cards are accepted. The park is managed by SanParks and is well maintained. The picnic area was clean. There are toilets available, but we didn't check it out.

It's a beautiful walk with rich history. Just be ready to walk with a stick in front of you because you are going to be COVERED in spider webs otherwise. There are also baboons that will damage your car and be sure to give them a wide birth on the trails. Guess it just adds to the effect.

Definitely nice and clean The track is well kept and prices for entry is fair. We did the 3 km hike as a quick morning getaway and the markings was put up in such a manner that anyone could understand it. If you decide to do the hike- Please be mindfull of the surface you are walking on as i did notice some spots are verry slippery as the cannopy gets lush so the humidity down below is high and water doesn't dissipate as quickly cousing some moss to grow.

Lovely trail with beautiful forest - the 9km one can get quite steep so be prepared!

Beautiful and well-maintained hiking trail with a memorial to Dalene Matthee. If you are lucky you may spot the Knysna Loerie. Also a picnic site right next to the trail

Easy trail, very pretty and lots of shade. Trail starts about 1.5 km away from where you pay, this is a major uphill walk up the road, so make sure you have a car to drive that distance to the start point if you're not keen to walk that uphill.

What a delight! The road leading up to the hiking trail can be a little heady for smaller / lower vehicles to get to, but once there you can't help but be mesmerised by the beauty of the natural forest around you. The trails are well kept, well marked (despite some other comments) and not too strenuous. We visited after some rain, and the forest was lush and beautiful. Yes, we did encouter some cobwebs (I was at the front), but considering that you are visiting one of the oldest indigenous natural forests in the Garden Route - one would imagine you would encounter nature and all of her critters (including spiders, and the webs they use to survive) in the forest. The few spiderwebs I did encounter was not enough to distract me from the awe of the natural forest surrounding us. There is plenty of shade along the trail. In our wisdom, we chose to hike on a very hot day, and at midday to boot, but the shade was plentiful and kept us cool for most of the way. Small pockets of sunlight was not enough to cause any discomfort, either. There are some trees that have naturally grown (as trees are wont to do) across the trail here and there, which requires one to duck under them as you proceed, but not enough to be a real bother or obstacle. The bathrooms were spotlessly clean (a happy surprise), the only thing worth nothing being the absence of hand soap. Right next to the start of the trail, and the memorial tree, is a wonderfully laid out picnic area with plenty of seating under the surrounding trees' shade. Some tips for those visiting - Take water, take some snacks, and take your time walking through the forest. Evem better, pack a cooler bag and have a picnic in the shady area after your long walk and just soak up the forest as best you can while there. Wonderful for nature lovers. A must visit. Repeatedly. The cost for us to enter was R55 per adult, and offered shaded parking at the start of the trail. There are bathrooms at the entrance gates, and again at the start of the trail.
