This is the 3rd time we are eating at the restaurant and other than this one, the experience has been really good. This time we waited over an hour for our food and when it arrived the burgers were cold. The burgers were then very, very rare. I didn't complain again after having the burger warmed up, but left most of my burger. There was no management present, even though I told our waiter that the food was disappointing - nobody came to offer apologies. We had already booked here for their New Year's Eve party and on arrival, I was confronted by the owner in a very aggressive manner with regard to my review of lunch the previous day. Instead of apologising that he was not there to deal with the matter, he made us uncomfortable in front of the other guests. The right thing to do would be to publish a response here, but instead this has now led to a further negative review. The food at the party was really good; Charlene is clearly a very accomplished chef, but her and her husband need to remember the words of PT Barnum: "There us no such thing as bad publicity". It really depends on what you do with it - an opportunity lost.

In the heart of the Garden Route. Situated right off the N2 between Sedgefield and Knysna. Gardens border the Goukamma River bank with beautiful mountain views, bird life and an on-site Restaurant. Short ride to Buffalo Bay beach with a cute little on the beach restaurant. It's beautiful and peaceful here!

An day outing that was full of surprises. Popped in at Blackwaters River Lodge. Restaurant closed on Mondays & Tuesdays but they now have a coffe shop style "On the River Banks" offering. Small but delightful menu and you sit around the swimming pool enjoying the views and listening to the bird sounds. We enjoyed our quiche and scones very much. You can even have a glass of wine. We will definitely be back to enjoy.

Great place to go to for that weekend breakaway. Tranquil surrounding in the mountains, next to a river for that extra atmosphere. So soothing for your whole body, mind and soul.

Sadly, not as good as our previous experience. 3 of the five people ordered dishes which could not be delivered as listed on the menu. The restaurant never had figs to include in these dishes. The figs were a star ingredient of their open sandwich and so another dish was ordered - the chicken salad. The chicken salad was not much like a salad at all. It had no greens - no lettuce at all - just chunks of apple and a grey moosh on chicken pieces. Not great. My pizza was supposed to have figs on it. No figs ! It had added onion and it was not a good pizza - overdone and stodgy. The food was very slow to come. Of the two deserts on the menu, we were advised that one was not available. That left ice cream and chocolate sauce. Unfortunately the ice cream had been refrozen and was full of ice crystals. We were advised that there was carrot cake, but told in the same breath that it was not ready!? Not much went right. Corkage was R60 a bottle of wine - more than almost anywhere else I know. So, although we gave this place an excellent rating last time we ate there, things have deteriorated considerably and now it is no longer a place I can recommend. Sad, but true. It is such a lovely venue.

I am just reviewing the mashie golf as my wife and I did not stay at the lodge. The golf was great. It is very scenic, well marked, and the course was long enough that I felt it was good value for money. My only complaint was that the grass was a bit long for a mashie golf course. I do not know if they has been busy and had not cut the grass in a while, but there were patches where the grass was too long and thick to play properly.

Reception was friendly and courteous. Booking was hassle free. Beds were clean and comfortable. We asked for a double or queen bed room but was given two single bed room. The room cleanliness below par for a 5-star establishment. The bathroom basin, bathtub and shower fittings was riddled with rust, again not one would expect from a 5-star hotel. Disappointing, expected better. 2/5

Blackwaters Riverlodge has only left my family crying to go back to this luxurious destination! The staff were very welcoming and the spacious greenery provided more than enough entertainment to have the hours feel like they were flying by. I most enjoyed that there were many tranquil activities available on the property throughout the day. My stresses from the year are officially...relieved! After a positively healing massage from their wellness therapist Farren Harper (who was an absolute delight to meet) I was gifted with the lovely opportunity to sport a round of golf with my sons and retire to my beautiful bedroom with its mind blowing view! I would definitely recommend visiting/(and if you're lucky enough) staying at the Blackwaters RiverLodge if you're looking for that inner peace feeling and a massive smile that will last the year!

Elmay and her team were welcoming from the first phone call I made - she was born to be in this industry! We spent the past weekend at the venue for a race and were spoilt with the service we received. We have already booked another trip and cannot wait to go back!

Would have been a 5 star review but for terrible customer service at the end. We were interested in coming for the afternoon for lunch, golf and a swim and called the hotel in the morning to check if we needed to book. No booking required as it's the off season and very quiet. After a great lunch we went for a quick dip in the pool for our child before golf upon which a member of staff said it was for guests only. I explained we I had called earlier to check and that we'd just had lunch and were about to play golf. She brusquely said it was guests only and walked off. Faced with this complete lack of hospitality and at a time when the whole place was essentially empty and nobody in the pool we decided to leave and forget the golf. They just did themselves out at least another 1000 Rand that day on golf and food and drink and we were talking of coming back later in the week with more family. I could understand if it was peak season and crowded but it was anything but. As it is we won't be back and I can't recommend this place to anyone else unfortunately. *Response from the owner does not address the fact I did ask staff if it was OK first thing. For a better experience we attended Pezula Resort Hotel & Spa as day guests and received outstanding service and full use of facilities without being overnight guests and were made to feel welcome.

This was our best decision to spend 3 nights out of our SA tour of 10 days. We had booked 4 rooms. The place is by far the best one. The hospitality, the rooms, the services, the welcome we received and the way rooms were decorated. In the backyard, they have a golf course too. This is situated on the bank of a river. The only downside is the water which flows from the tap water is brownish, may be because of water crisis in SA. We were being told about a major fire somewhere in 2016-17 in which even this lodge was affected. But now, they have revamped the entire thing and had great stay here. Manager did take all the necessary things to ensure our stay remains pleasant and memorable. Special Thanks to the Manager, Winet. Further, they provide a sip of local famous "Sherry" in all the rooms. There is also a swimming pool. Must visit and thanks to the supporting staff

During our trip along the south coast of South-Africa we stayed at this lodge for a few days. The location is great! It's by some water. Near a road, but you will never notice anything from the road. It's quite and peacefull. At night it's completely dark because you stay in the middle of nature. We got a torch when we arrived. The rooms are beautifull. There is enough space and the view is breathtaking. It is clean, which is the most important for a place to sleep. The staff is helpful and kind. Especially Gerald has a special place in our hearts. He made our stay unforgettable. In the evening there is a bonfire which will last as long as there are guests enjoying it. Conclusion: great place!

What a great meal. Eddie’s service was brilliant and the food nothing short of excellent. Home made pizza bases, burger patties and even burger buns. Will definitely be back.

A hands on team that is eager to make your stay memorable! Incredible cuisine for adults and kids, with an attentive chef creative enough to adjust her menu. The river, golf and various activities make this a no brainer for some quality family fun! Service with a smile personified!!

Spent the weekend here and didn't want to leave... The property is beautiful and the rooms are well designed and have great river views. There is loads to do onsite; pitch and putt (of which I'm now a huge fan), picnic by the river, canoeing on the Goukamma, swimming (in the pool or river) and SUP. We had such a relaxing and enjoyable weekend, made extra special by the super friendly staff. An absolute treat x

👍👍 I enjoyed my time and food at 34 Degrees South. If you sit outside, you get treated to awesome views too of what can be described like Venice. Towards the latter part of the day, you'll see a gorgeous South African sunset (if there are no clouds). I had some wine by the glass, one of the few places...
