Overall its a good hotel, once you find your bearings... Some rooms are noisy, facing the front road and the slamming doors and carpet less hall add to noise, especially at night..... Breakfast is good, omelettes made by the lovely Elizabeth are great, just try to goto breakfast when there are no coach parties... Just ask her or the breakfast room manager, you'd like an omelette..... Keep it simple is best (ham and cheese etc). Rooms are spacious, free Internet (codes change on Fridays). Shower gel, lotion and bar soap, towels, hairdryer, safety deposit box... Would stay again, close to shops. Reception staff are knowledgeable and good.

My friend and I spent one night at the Protea Hotel Mossel Bay in October 2021. We were in town to go great white shark cage diving. We were treated phenomenally from the moment we arrived at the hotel. My Gold status was acknowledged by the front desk attendant who checked us in as well as with a sign hanging in the lobby, welcoming me by name to the hotel. We were upgraded to a nicer room (a Gold status benefit) but also allowed to check in to our room early (not a benefit to which I was necessarily entitled). A staff member brought anything we needed (extra towels, etc.) to our room within just a few minutes of calling down to the front desk. Every staff member with whom we interacted was helpful and friendly, always greeting us with a smile. I want to particularly acknowledge Alfonso who truly went above and beyond to help us. As I wrote above, we were in town to go shark cage diving and my friend had forgotten to pack a warm hat for the boat. The evening before our dive, my friend asked Alfonso whether he knew a store in town that was open and selling such hats. Instead of simply telling us where we could find one, Alfonso called a store, confirmed it was open, ran to the store just before it closed to buy the hat, and delivered it to our room personally. I was astounded by this show of genuine care for a guest. Alfonso displayed true kindness and concern for my friend. Finally, we requested and were granted a 2 p.m. late check out (a Gold status benefit). The hotel's restaurant (Cafe Gannet) is phenomenal. The rooms are quite nice and some have balconies with beautiful views of the bay. But the staff is what makes this hotel special. As I wrote at the top, we were only in town for one night but that's all the time the wonderful staff of the Protea Hotel Mossel Bay needed to leave a lasting impression upon me. The best customer service is the sort that makes you feel valued not just as a customer but as a human being. The people working at this hotel understand this. I won't soon forget them.

Pleasantly surprised! Staff are friendly and eager to assist. I feel the breakfast is a bit dull for R200 ++ p/p. We skipped the 2nd breakfast. But the rooms, bedding etc was great. Location is definitely perfect! However, it saddens to say that the surrounding stores: Checkers etc is in desperate need of revamp. It was NOT possible to get after-sun anywhere near this hotel. We had to Drive all the way to Hartenbos.

Daniesha and Peter makes a stay at this hotel extra special! In general, the staff make this establishment top notch! Great facilities, neat and clean rooms. Room service can take a bit too long, but they’ll always pull through. We dis find it unfair that the premier rooms above the gym were book three year in advance by a cash paying client especially when no bookings are allowed one-year in advance.

It’s a beautiful hotel. We stayed at a suite, upstairs has a living room and downstairs has a bedroom and bathroom. Both have balcony facing to water.

Exceptional place to stay and relax between Cape Town and the Garden Route, or as a place to just settle in and relax in superb accommodations! Extra special for fans of Gin or Oysters!

A great place to stay in Mossel Bay centrally located and staff is courteous. They have a great restaurant attached to it which has great food and services. A good place to relax and unwind

From the reception when we arrived. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. On our last day our kids miss placed their gadgets (different occasions). Thank you to your staff who helped us look for them especially Sean who recovered them. We really appreciate. We had a great weekend away from home.

We stopped for just one night touring the Garden Route. It was a fantastic experience after a cold couple of days in an apartment during load shedding to come into a comfortable, spacious and above all warm environment in the Protea by Marriott Hotel! We had booked a normal room with sea views but were upgraded to a maisonette suite! A,welcome drink, tea and coffee maker and a little sweet treat included. We enjoyed every minute of our stay! The breakfast was also amazing!

I couldn't thank the restaurant staffs enough. After early dinner yesterday, I left my LV bag containing credit cards and cash behind. Did not realise this until today. So delighted to know a customer found my bag and handed it over to the staff. Every single cent and all credit cards were intact. THANK YOU SO MUCH - you changed my perspective of SA in every aspect. Room was beautiful and comfortable. Your staffs are out of this world. Thank you again for a very wonderful experience.

Staff are very warm and friendly, and set the tone for the rest of the stay immediately from their welcome. We had a Bay suite and a beautiful view, cannot fault our stay.

So I have very mixed feelings about this hotel 🛏️🏨 We arrived early at 1 so we knew the room wouldn't be ready so went to the bar 🍻 and had cocktails 🍸🍹 At around 2 20 we came back to check in and found our room was still not ready, ok they gave us a welcome drink 🍷 of Hanepoot and we sat down and waited ...so we only got the room around 3 20/30 mark during our time of waiting no one really took responsibility we were talking to the staff but no one really took action, not sure why there was no duty manager helping out with this? Eventually we got to the room and the room stunk to high heaven of industrial chemicals so what ever they use to clean the rooms is super strong and with all the windows 🪟 closed we opened them and then immediately left and went for a walk intown as it was simply to strong in the room the smell. The room itself was ok and decent enough, yet the shelves all still had dust on them so yeah not a good start. Apparently they were fully booked the previous night from the reception yet when we asked the later staff that seemed to be a lie so I'm not sure on that or why the rooms take forever to clean and yet they are still dirty. Also the shower 🚿 door has lost its seal so water does leak onto the floor. The room I booked on Agoda definitely is not the same I got or even in the same category. Breakfast 🍳 is an insanely 250 per person so we didn't bother with that but note on Agoda it shows 190 or 175 can't remember as we were gonna get it but then the price hike! They did give us a cheap bottle of champagne 🍾 after taking these issues up with them. They did give us a complementary gin tasting which was nice of them. Overall being a Marriott hotel you expect a certain level from the hotel and unfortunately this hotel has none of it and charge 1500 per night which was around what we paid just not acceptable. Staff seemed not wanna take responsibility and overall just felt overwhelmingly stale . The bar is the only good thing we really enjoyed room was ok but not what Agoda was showing.

We loved our stay, thank you! A special mention to Alfonso and Avu (not sure if that is correct), both of whom were very friendly and helpful

I was allocated the worst possible ( room 226), and my plea to please move me to another room fell on very deaf ears. The room is directly above the main entrance - so that you know of every movement. The view is non existant - other than overlooking a building accross the road where homeless people sleep . Beeing a Marriot member counts for nothing. Wont see me again.

The staff were always willing to help and did so to the fullest. Mosselbaai is an amazing location that is 100% worth the trip. The hotel is very well located with only a 5 - 10 minute walk to the harbour and Santos beach. Their in-house cocktail bar, restaurant, and gin facility is amazing fun. I will definitely be visiting again.

We stayed at this hotel between 13/11 and 15/11 (deluxe room with seaside view, room 402). The room was large, quite luxerious and comfortable. The hotel itself is also elegant and specialized in great service. The location is ideal for any type of activity, as it is a central and safe location in Mossel Bay. The gin distillery is an added bonus and really worth it, as are the restaurant and the bar. Special mention for the following: we were on our honeymoon, and we received amazing attention, gifts and congratulations! We will definitely be visiting again!

Rooms need some renovation. Location and sevice is good. There is a restaurant and bar. the important thing is there is a gin distrilery 😎 in the hotel, When you stay in the hotel, they give you free gin tasting. They also give beach towels. Beach looks close, but walking is not easy. There is checkers and beach bars near by

Excellent location, nice facilities but a small worm problem. The rooms at this location are fairly small but very well decorated and modern. The team made a lot of small touches to make our experience extra special since it was our honeymoon. The view of the harbour from the room was really pretty and we were able to see a boat race in the morning. We loved the buffet breakfast from the restaurant on site with the mimosa station. The improvements: our room had a bit of a leaking issue that ran along the wall and brought up these small worms which was pretty gross. The hotel was full so there wasn’t any ability to change room. Also, I didn’t love the set up of the pool because the restaurant and bar overlook it. If you swim, you’re literally on display for dozens of people having drinks. If you suntan it is pretty awkward and the photos are a bit misleading of the set up.

Always a treat to eat at the restaurant at the Protea hotel. Their Kingklip en salmon in filo pastry is worth a return trip! The portion is so big that it can easily be shared, especially if you are tempted to have a starter. No.photos this time but the view is just as beautiful as how the food is presented. Hope to be back in April.

This hotel successfully combines the old building (such as stone walls) and street parking with the new - modern renovated rooms, pool and restaurant and my personal favorite- the bathroom seat! However what will encourage guests to return again is the friendly, helpful and accommodating staff at both the hotel and restaurant (Cafe Gannet)

Best protea I stayed at on the garden route. Very nice inside with good bedding and tv and bathroom and nice little design detaiLs. Cute view of harbor. Though mossel bay as a town is a bit dead.

Friendly welcome by staff at reception accompanied with a welcome drink. Reservations gave us a free room upgrade with a bath instead of just a shower which was extremely generous. Total turnaround from our last time here. Rooms are beautiful and the view is exceptional. Thank you for a great experience

This is one of the best Protea Hotels I have stayed. The location is in the center of the Town and the harbour. The rooms are modern and clean. The staff is very friendly. The only issue I had during my stay is that I could not get my Prokard discount at the restuarant when we went for dinner. The restuarant informed me that the Prokard discount only works for breakfast.

The rooms are very comfortable with a very comfortable bed. Rooms are kept very clean and the hotel is immaculate. The view from a top floor room is so scenic (pictured here) and overlooks the harbour and coast line surrounding Mossel Bay. The Gannet restaurant is located on the same premises and is fine dining at its best. Highly recommend this hotel.

Sushi was fine, but heavy on the sauces and rice. It was expected for a small town like Mossel Bay.

From the minute we checked in, we felt welcomed. Every single interaction was met with a friendly smile by staff that are professional and happy to serve. The room was great, and the food was great but their customer service is next level. Well done to the entire team!

Some of the most genuine hotel staff I have met. Peter at check in was very quick and efficient and ever so polite, and Zacharia is the jack of all trades. He even treated my 10 month old baby like family and set up his cot with comfy bedding. All of the staff was genuinely nice and willing to go the extra mile to make our stay memorable. Location is great. Very quiet area, yet close to everything you need. 3 min drive to Santos Beach. Would highly recommend this place.
