Kobe
Port
Tower
is
a
landmark
in
the
port
city
of
Kobe,
Japan.
The
sightseeing
tower
was
completed
in
1963
and
was
temporarily
closed
from
late
2009
to
April
28,
2010
for
renovation.
It
is
located
in
the
Central
District,
Kobe,
Hyogo
Prefecture,
Japan.
The
structure
resembles
a
tsuzumi,
or
elongated
traditional
Japanese
drum,
and
the
narrow
middle
section
of
the
tower
looks
as
though
it's
been
pinched,
giving
it
the
shape
of
a
hyperbola.

It
is
formed
with
straight
pipes
but
the
entire
shape
is
a
Hyperbola.
This
is
a
board
made
up
of
vertical
and
horizontal
lines.
Cells
of
the
board
were
replaced
by
rubber.
Designed
by
the
Nikken
Sekkei
Company,
the
tower's
unique
shape
was
inspired
by
a
tsuzumi,
a
traditional
Japanese
drum.
It
is
108
m
tall,
and
comprises
8
layers,
the
top
being
a
360-degree
observation
deck
which
is
open
to
tourists
and
provides
impressive
views
of
Kobe.
