It’s a great place with amazing architecture, definitely recommend to people that like it! You should probably go on weekends since almost everything was closed. However, you can visit the district in 1 - 2 hours from the outside. Be sure to come with walking shoes since you’ll walk a lot and it’s all uphills! Then just conclude your visit at Starbucks!

While there is some history to the European houses here, we felt that its more of a tourist trap as you have to pay entrance fee for each and every house just to view it. We were on our way to the Botanical Gardens anyway, so just passed by this area. Nothing special or anythimg to shout about, but if you really need to see them out of curiosity, then do pay and have a peek. No harm trying. 😁

I didn’t pay for the tour or the ticket entry for anyof the houses since i was on my way to the ropeway station on foot and visiting Kitano wasn’t a priority for my kobe day trip. But if you have time to recommend for you to go for it.

I feel it’s like the high end Beverly Hills? You can definitely feel it definitely has western elements in the whole community.

Unfortunately, there were many places that were closed during the day, but the cityscape was wonderful.

I only saw this building from the outside but it was very beautiful. The colours and the front yard are very quaint feeling. I saw a notice on the front chair that said it was for wedding receptions, and I must say, it would be perfect for that.

An interesting and historic area of Kobe, different from other cities in Japan, such as Kyoto. Kobe is worth a visit if you are in the Kansai region, and this area is one of the reasons.

Visiting the numerous houses provided a fascinating experience and an insight into the ways and differences in which some (to avoid generalising) Americans, British, French and German people lived and entertained themselves and their guests over 100 years ago. The houses are all extraordinarily well-kept; they’re clean and quiet and the staff members are friendly and polite. It’s possible to buy tickets that include entrance into two or three houses so only buy tickets for individual houses if you’re only planning on visiting one or two. As noted elsewhere, it is absolutely worth visiting the nearby Starbucks, which provides both a nice atmosphere and a good break after walking up and down steep streets.

This place were famous for their country-themed house. Many buildings here with different style which were opened for public after paying the entrance fee. Make sure you prepare enough time to observe all of the house in Kitano. Or if you don't want to observe each house, you can just simply dig into a cafe which sometimes have their own specialty.

Busy area, but nice to walk through. Feels like Daikanyama in Tokyo and you can catch some western vibes!

It’s lots of European countries museum or building around this area, however you need to pay the tickets. We just walked around and go to Japanese temple which is free for entrance and took some photos from the top of hill.

Well preserved foreigner district of Kobe. It's lovely to walk and explore the area. There are many places to visit but it is not necessary to visit all the museums. Just pick the one to your liking. But the first place you should visit is the former drewell house, which is a souvenir shop / museum. There is a vdo room where you can learn about the history of Kitano Ijinkan, and it is free to enter. Although the weathercock house is close but the area around the place is lovely and filled with cafe and small shop.

We went very early and the establishments were still closed. But from what I see it is a nice place to walk around and admire the old world European charm of the western style influenced buildings there.

A must visit when you are in Kobe. There are little hilly streets with lovely colonial buildings of different countries and it is a cute place. I would not spend too long here unless you are into visiting all the different houses - these are museums and there are entrance fees to enter.

It’s a really nice place to hang out for a day. There are plenty of museums and preserved old houses to visit. Coffee shops and restaurants choices are abundant, too. The only thing maybe pushing you back is the slope. Make sure you have a pair of good shoes and prepare to walk.

Among Kitano Ijinkan-gai, I strongly recommend Thomas Gottfried's residence, so to speak "Kazamidori-house" and "Italian building", Platon Decorative Museum. Forme one has a great history supported by many people who had much to do with and the latter one is extraordinarily decorated with pure original items both outside and inside, no strange gimmick nor imitations. Especially, former inspection and study about it's history and background would make you move so much. There are much questions and curiosity, Rhenania is written on the gate, what is it?. In order to get into the reception, some stepping up is required, why ground floor is set at higher position? Why reception is decorated with Chinese style? Is there any deep story behind a specific "Table set" placed in the bay window room just inside to the left side? Exported by the volunteer servant to Germany Rhenania so secretly under the closing condition by the authority, in spite of a danger to be caught by the police. Why did they do that? The owner was satisfied and favorit with it. He obliged to go back to Germany leaving his profits, the enemy country for us while WW1. And Careful inspection on it will prove the the engineer of the furniture is not European but Japanese, interesting isn't it? Recently it was returned back to Kobe from Rhenania Germany after WW2 for the sake of courtesy by an old German lady, Mrs. Else Calbeau, single daughter of Thomas who lived her childhood at Kobe exactly here, Kazamidori house. She contributed as much as she could tracing her memories while reconstruction of the Kazamidori building in it's original condition, it's extraordinary and great work at all. Second floor commands a fine view of Kobe bey through wavy plate window glass. Why distorted scenery is observed? It was produced 100 years ago is the reason. And the same phenomena occurs when visited Murin-An situated at Kyoto Okazaki, meaning is no neighbor house and also it was built 100 years ago. As for Italian building on the Fudo slope, just it is filled with authentic decoration and furnishing, that all. Just looks beautiful and brilliant, and Genuine one with a long history and deep knowledge supported by dignity are different each other.

It was a nice experience walking through, but nothing special. It got a little crowded

A place filled with old colonial European architecture building from the old times The road leading to this area will be a bit steep so do prepare by wearing shoes It's an hour train ride from Osaka and it's not crowded like Osaka at all At this area, there are shops that sells confectionary that is exclusively at Kobe only So be sure to get it before you leave but if you missed it, you can get it at the 7-11 of Kobe sannomiya station but if you don't get it there, you won't get it anywhere else
