The museum is amazing if you’re interested in Kobe’s history. The first floor is free. If you don’t speak Japanese well, you won’t have to worry since they have all English subtitles when projecting a video! I had so much fun looking at Kobe’s houses in the Meiji and Showa period with the interactive tablet 🤍

Excellent quality and updated museum. It was a little pricey to enter but this may have been due to exhibition. General exhibit was 300 yen and everything was 1000 yen. If you pick up the Kobe Museum guide and show it then you'll get a 20% discount. Highlights are the maps and bells from the Yayoi period.

We visited the Egyptian mummy exhibit. The museum was beautiful and clean with helpful staff and plenty of audio options for tours. The mummies are from a more recent age including Roman occupation, so they are not as ancient. However, they are in excellent condition, and the CAT scans reveal a lot. Lots of artifacts and interesting stonework is included. Very cool if you like ancient Egypt. The downstairs Kobe history area is also interesting.

Despite them saying they were limiting how many people were allowed in at once, and the COVID-19 situation, it was ridiculously crowded. I would've left even if I didn't need to worry about coronavirus. People were packed in in front of the exhibits and it was impossible to see or read anything. But they just kept pushing more people in. They didn't care. They were selling tickets. My wife and I complained and left the exhibits after the first room. They refused to give us a refund. They said it was impossible. Sounds like bs to me. I'll never go to another event at this museum.

(Translated by Google) I went to the Japanese glass exhibition. Maybe it was a weekday, so I could see it slowly. It was the first time since the renovation, but the history of permanent Kobe is different from before and it is good that there are many perspectives. Very useful to gain an insight of how Kobe began as a port and melting pot of foreigners and locals as well as its importance as a major port city. Definitely useful to visit the museum first to have a better appreciation of Chinatown and buildings in the foreign settlement area where this museum is located. The first floor is a must visit showcasing the history of Kobe with nice videos and exhibits of the old and new Kobe streets and buildings and it's free too! The second and third floors are special exhibits. It's a relatively small museum and easy to visit in an hour. Photos below for your preview and do come here first before exploring the rest of the city. 👍

Came today and saw the Ghibli exibition. Great exibition which focused on the designing, planning and building of the Ghibli museum in Tokyo and theme park in Nagoya. I wad particular intrigued by the design and construction process of Howl's moving castle in real scale, seeing the details the team go into to make a structure in the animation into a real building was so inspiring.

(Translated by Google) The Kobe City Museum is a registered tangible cultural property designed by architect Sakurai Kotaro in 1935 and used as the Kobe branch of Yokohama Specie Bank (currently Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ), so the building itself is a highlight. .. The 2nd and 3rd floors are paid exhibition spaces, but despite the free space on the 1st floor, the exhibition contents are substantial, and you can learn about the history of Kobe from the Kofun period to the present day. It was a very interesting exhibition, such as a model of an old foreign settlement from the Meiji to Taisho era, a hands-on function to walk around the city with digital devices, a rickshaw and Japan's first perm machine. With explanations in Japanese and English, this museum is also appreciated by visitors from overseas.

(Translated by Google) This museum represents Kobe in the former settlement. It was rolled and the hall became wide and bright. Previously, you could not enter without a kit, but now you can enter the first floor free of charge. The wheels are large and the video games are complete. The opening of "TOOTH TOOTH Concavo-convex Chabo" was also opened. Enjoy Japanese tea, sweets, and afternoon tea. Hasty rice is also delicious (^ ^) (Original)

(Translated by Google) Kobe City Museum A regional museum run by the city of Kobe. Perhaps because it was originally the Nanban Museum (and the Archaeological Museum), there was an exhibition such as "Paper book color Francisco Xavier statue" that Japanese people have definitely seen in history learning. It seems that there are about 50,000 items in the collection. A recommended spot where you can learn not only valuable works of art but also the history of the Kobe area.

If you have any interest in how opening ports to the west impacted Japan, this the museum for you. They have wonderful English descriptions on most of the exhibits. The mid nineteenth century machine that creates permanent hair waves is worth the price of admission.

Very disappointed because there are was no English explanations for the exhibition I went to The Greats cand also no English audio guides! Whenever I travel to other countries there is always English explanations but it seems that Japan is only using Japanese thinking that no one else visits their museums other than Japanese! Plus the ticket was only good for the exhibition and not for the rest of the museum which was ridiculous! ¥1800 for the exhibition only and I couldn’t see the rest of the museum! What really bothers me is that Kobe considers itself international but that couldn’t be farther from the truth!

I made a pit stop here before heading to my hotel and I gotta say, I was blown away! In just a short visit, I was able to soak up the rich history and vibrant culture of Awaji. And let me tell you, whoever curated the art collection here deserves a gold medal. The pieces are absolutely stunning and expertly chosen. If you're looking for a quick but fulfilling taste of everything this place has to offer, this is definitely the spot to hit up!!

(Translated by Google) It is one of the most representative museums in Kobe, and the contents of the exhibition are wonderful, but the building itself should be called an art work. Built in 1935, it is a registered tangible cultural property. The portrait of Francis Xavier, which I often saw in that textbook, is in this collection. I've seen almost the same content at exhibitions in Tokyo and Nagoya before, but ... I was told that only this Kobe City Museum could be photographed. I feel like I got it.
