Rokkosan Farm in Mount Rokkō, Kobe, offers a delightful escape into nature. With picturesque landscapes, interactive animal encounters, and fresh dairy products, it's a perfect visit! We took a cablecar ride up the mountain from Kobe, and then a circular bus line takes you from the station to the pasture. Make sure you don't miss the last pickup! We had lots of fun seeing the lively happy animals and feeding the goats. There were several attractions, but unfortunately many were closed by the time we arrived, so check the schedule before traveling.

Although the sheep were allowed to roam freely, most if the other animals were in small and/or dirty pens, the cow shed looked like it hadn't been swept in a week and the cows were kept in a small dirt yard. The horses ribs were showing and it looked like they had no space to roam around. Even the sheep were overpopulated for the grassland they had and the grass was cropped so short it must have been difficult for them to eat. It''s supposed to be a working farm, so you have to expect it to be different to an animal sanctuary, but I've been on working farms before and the animals there had so much more space. I just came away feeling sorry and angry for the animals

This was the only attraction open the day we visited from Arima Onsen, and we had to transfer across two bus routes to get to this place. It was quite a fun time and we ended up spending around three hours here. It is a working farm, and you can see sheep with their new lambs in the hillsides. There was even a Sakura tree in bloom. They also have horses, Shetland ponies, goats and cows (even one named Lamboghini or Maserati), and there was even Sheepdog guiding demonstration. The grounds are rather vast and also hilly, so good walking shoes are a must. There is a small kiosk near the carpark gate where you can buy ice cream etc, but we opted for lunch at the other end of the carpark. They have a steak eatery, as well as a bakery where you can have sandwiches and bread. Do visit the souvenir shop next door, where they sell local snacks and products includingQBB cheesecake and truffle cheeses, and ice cream or yoghurt ices. Do take note of the bus times, as they mostly operate on the half hour only.

I noted some negative comments saying two things: no animals around and dirty. I don’t know when they visited there, but for my visit, I saw a lot of sheep running around, and many are eating grasses on the pasture. My visit was in June, a very, very sunny day. I guess visiting on a sunny day is of paramount importance. Second, there were some tiny sized “shits” of sheep on different tracks but they are sparsely distributed here and there on the tracks. I think it’s normal for a open pasture like this. You can’t have a super clean open pasture, that’s just contradictory! Good luck with your visit! Remember! Go on a sunny day!

This place is great! Lots of animals to see like horses, goats, sheep, and ducks. There are hills that you can easily hike up to take in the breathtaking views while you're surrounded by free roaming sheep. They have workshops where you can make butter and ice cream. Fun for the kids and adults! They have a nice cafe with lots of good options. There is also a large playground for when the kids need to run around. Don't miss the shop on the way out. They sell some outstanding smoked cheese!

A minimal "cruelty free" "zoo" with domesticated farm animal winners and losers. The sheep are allowed to roam freely but all the other animals are penned in enclosures of varying sizes. The animals are well cared for. Personally, I like it when humans can interact with animals other than pets. Animals are truly amazing and I wish we could stop killing and eating them, but that's wishful thinking. The park is quite large with hills and pastures. There are a two restaurants and a souvenir shop to buy locally produced camembert cheese which is actually quite good. The park is not easy to get to if you don't drive, it will take over an hour by bus, ropeway, and then bus from JR Rokkomichi station.

We were hiking by and stopped in to check it out. While we were putting together a plan to see the place but not miss the bus (super infrequent), the parking lot attendant got so impatient that we were forced to leave. In all of time in Japan this was the least friendly experience. It is 500 for a petting zoo. Looked like an ok experience but help people want to visit.

Good place to visit for families with children. There are a good amount of farm animals: horses, goats, rabbits, guinea pigs, cows, and sheeps roaming freely in the area, and many more. They have a few animal feeding areas, horse riding ¥500/person, limited food choices, popular soft ice cream, drink vending machines, bathrooms with japanese style and western toilets, parking at the area, nearby bus stop and taxi, and hand washing areas throughout the pasture. Animals are friendly so it's ok to pet them. Plan to spend at least 2 hours here.

A good place to visit with kids but I didn't like because I just want to buy some goods but I need to pay for ticket (not a problem itself) but there is no sign for no japanese speakers a clear information about place entrance (I just enter using car entrance KKK) But even with this issue I can say attendants were amazing to help me even don't speaking English (my Japanese is terrible but we found a way to exchange information). Note: place is recommended if you intend to visit a kind of farm in Japan.

It is a very big place for a day outing. You can see and play with the lambs walking here and there. Not many options for food are available inside so better to have something from home or konbini before you go there. Located in a scenic place of Mount Rokko, this place also offers nice views

Had a great time here. Perfect weather, sheep were wandering around and it felt really relaxing. Easy to find one’s way around and an enjoyable place. Good value for money (as long as don’t go during Golden Week). Farm in the city: nice.

Endlessly new discovery in such a beautiful greenland. People find their relaxing time cheese products, closely touching on animals, watching the sheep show; and breathing the freshness from green; anytime in this farm and make the leisure time enjoyable a lot. Oh! I would strongly recommend the cheese shake is ever better than the named-best seller of soft cream.

Very touristy, not a real farm. The only thing nice that help giving them 3 stars was the walk around in nature and the view from the top of the hill. You don’t need a farm to get those elsewhere. Not for me.

A good place to bring kids or if you are personally very into animals. Has an entrance fee of 600yen. Animal feed is another additional 200 yen. The farm itself has many separate areas for the animals. They also conduct workshops but all are done in Japanese and have separate charge.

Nice place but on Google maps it says “Dude ranch”?!?! Idk but that sounds weird Also the view is nice but as others have said the sheep look well cared for but the other animals look ill and not very well other than that It’s ok I might come again. 3.8 stars out of 5

Rokkosan Pasture (神戸市立六甲山牧場, Kōbe Shiritsu Rokkōsan Bokujō) is a public pasture farm situated in Mount Rokkō in Kobe, Japan. It is a beautiful farm to spend a day with your family, especially kids. A must visit place if you are an animal lover. It's just an half-hour drive from Kobe City. Photos © Sanjib Dutta
