This is a red brick building located right next to Kobe Oji Zoo. I don't know much about literature, so my initial purpose when I went there was to take pictures of the buildings. The building was originally the chapel of Kwansei Gakuin (now the advancement of Kwansei Gakuin University), but it is now a museum about writers associated with Kobe. Admission was free, so I went inside. It was interesting to see explanations of how the great writers on display were involved with Kobe, as well as the fountain pens and pipes they used, handwritten manuscripts, and books from the time. In addition, some writers who were originally active in Tokyo moved their base of activity to Kansai after the Great Kanto Earthquake, and Kobe seems to have been a city loved by literary giants of the Meiji and Taisho eras. Among the authors I knew, there were names such as Shiki Masaoka, Junichiro Tanizaki, Riichi Yokomitsu, Seishi Yokomizo, Shugoro Yamamoto, Shohei Ooka, and Shusaku Endo. Until now, the only thing that came to mind when I thought of Nada was the zoo, but I would like to explore it more and find interesting destinations. (Visit: 2020-10-05)

I could see a building with a retro atmosphere from the 4th floor of the Tadanori Yokoo Museum of Contemporary Art, and I was intrigued and stopped by. This structure was the starting point of Kwansei Gakuin. The Kobe Literature Museum is a chapel that was built in the early Meiji period as a symbol of the school and is still the oldest wooden church building in Kobe city. There was a great atmosphere inside the building.

A long time ago, when this was the Oji Library, the Oji Pool I stopped by on my way home. Although the entrance has changed since then, the calm atmosphere remains the same. When I was a child, there were many books. I thought it was a bigger building, but Now that I think about it, it gives me the impression that it is a compact building. Writers related to Kobe Introduced through panels, books, etc. You can also read books, although the amount is not large.

The birthplace of Kwansei Gakuin. The window glass work is worth seeing. It has a calm atmosphere, unlike other foreign inns that are business-based. For a moment, I can go back to being a literary girl! It would be a waste to make booklets about the literature and flowers of each ward free of charge.

It was originally a church for Kwansei Gakuin University (where the Faculty of Theology is located), but it was renovated and turned into a gallery. From time to time, we also feature handmade exhibits featuring artists and works associated with Kobe City and Hyogo Prefecture, which are also simple and fun. It is small and quiet, and has an appearance that befits the name of a literature museum. If you like reading, please check it out!

This free facility was originally a Kwansei Gakuin building. Write your name on the list at the entrance. The room has the characteristic smell of a place with a lot of old books.

I learned about the literature of people who are connected to Kobe and who are from there, and it made me curious to read more in the future.I was also very happy and entertained that there was a small exhibition that I could see for free.

Seno Kappa's handwritten manuscript is a must-see. There are notices on the walls not only in the exhibition room but also in the reference room.

(Translated by Google) A chapel built for Kwansei Gakuin by foreign missionaries during the Meiji period. The building is worth seeing. Although it is called a literary museum, the exhibits are only related to literature, and the exhibits are nothing more than common panel displays.
