Apparently forgot to write a review when I stayed last year and will stay at again soon. Great place, wouldn't stay anywhere else in Kobe. The owner has traveled the world and knows how to make a great hostel. He made dinner with/for us, drank and played games with us. Really a great place. Not much else you could want in a hostel, even has a lift which is rare in Japan. One of my favorite little features is a lock box inside your bed area. Can't fit a backpack as a whole, but is big enough to fit anything important and doubles as a little shelf. As you can see, all good reviews besides a few that didn't actually write a complaint of any sort. It isn't the most obvious to find at first, but 5 seconds on google street view and you will see it's right on the corner next to the pizza place. Great location. Highly recommend the day tour pass he suggested. Included train, onsen, sky lift tickets and a few other things. Out of the 100+ hostels I've stayed at in Japan, this was one of my favorites.

I rarely write reviews. However, I want to say that Hostel Anchorage was better than I had expected. The hostel is spotless, orderly and conveniently located. There are also some great details that I wish other hostels would have. For example, each bed compartment is larger than any other place I've seen in Japan. So I'm able to keep my things next to my bed. There's also a locker in each compartment, which was very convenient for keeping more valuable things. Finally, the owner of the hostel was gracious and kind. I'm glad to have spent some time with him while staying at Hostel Anchorage. I will definitely book here again the next time I'm in Kobe.

Family run hostel. Private rooms options for a fair and decent price, with well equiped standards (AC, ...). Perfect location (next to the center and Chinatown, full of streetfood counters), spotless clean, very nice and friendly manager, with good english skills, happy to help travelers and answers questions. The manager traveled around the world for few years, therefore he understands perfectly what travelers are looking for, while visiting abroad. I will definitly stay there again if I have a chance, and recommend the place.

My room was small but clean, and the staff was very helpful. I’d definitely stay here again! EDIT: I was in a rush when I wrote this review and meant to elaborate, but it slipped my mind until now, which is quite embarrassing to me because this place deserves so much more praise than just that one sentence. I arrived at Hostel Anchorage having just came down with a (fortunately non-contagious) stomach bug some point along my 3-stop flight, so I was absolutely miserable when I checked in. I bring this up because it made Kazu-san's kindness, patience, and understanding mean the absolute world to me. He gave me a quiet, clean, comfortable place to rest while I recovered, and was generally a huge comfort when I was sick and very far from home. Once I was better, I also came to appreciate the spotlessness of his hostel (it felt like he was constantly cleaning), and its excellent location right beside a wonderful shopping center that I could explore as I got my strength back. In short, Hostel Anchorage is an absolute gem, and if you are going to be in Kobe for any length of time I seriously cannot recommend it enough!

near 2 train stations, shopping area, a LOT of food choices around (even a very nice restaurant just outside the door). but the best part is you are getting wayyyy more than what you pay for. the rooms are very clean and by far one of the best hostels i've stayed ever. the instructions were very clear and it helped knowing a little japanese (as for whole japan) but they are very helpful. will definitely come back.

The place was kept VERY clean. The location is walking distance from many attractions. Affordable price. The sleeping capsule is very spacious with room for luggage inside. There is a free lock included for storing valuable belongings as well. The owner, Kazu-san, is very sweet. Highly recommend!

The location was good and the staff were nice. The hostel was very clean and there was also a common area to eat in (no kitchen though). It was well laid out. Unfortunately the hostel isn’t good at enforcing its ‘quiet’ policy and inconsiderate guests were coming in at 2am and being noisy packing and unpacking. It was frustrating

The owner, Kazu-san, is the best ! I spent a perfect time at this hostel, where I stayed for 2 nights and made some friends ! Bed is very comfortable and everything is perfectly cleaned ! Kazu-san travelled the world, he’s really the nicest person to talk to and I would definitely come back if I have the chance to return to Kobe ! Make sure you talk to him when you come, it’s nice for him and I can assure you will have the best time ✨

One of the best hostels I have stayed in. Luxury beds in shared room look like small rooms. Most of the guests are japanese, so the hostel is very quiet. Friendly staff that speaks good english.

Cosy little hostel situated in the Motomachi area. Lots of shopping, places to eat and train stations nearby. Space is quite limited in the hostel, with the single rooms, common area and bathrooms right next to each other on L3 and more rooms on L4. If you need personal space, maybe this isn't the place for you. However, you are guaranteed to meet some other interesting travellers. The hotel also did a good job of setting out the rules for being quiet after 11pm and turning out the lights. The single room I stayed in was tiny, but the bed was super comfortable. Highly recommend for a solo traveller.

Great place for a few days in Kobe, 30 mins walk from the port which is beautiful and full of amazing shops. Also 2 min walk from an entire alley of shops and food stores. Love the rooms! But 3 hours for laundry service... might need to check on those machines.

Great location & friendly proprietor. No breakfast included & you'll need a towel (or hire one). Spotlessly clean also.

👍 Nice place to rest. Cheap and comfortable, is near Sannomiya, the main Kobe's train station. The women's dormitory has a password to protect them. The capsule bed has an internal fan that ventilates, very welcome. The living room for have a snack, and kind owner. Good choice.
