I paid 430USD per person to get onsen that had numerous spider webs all around, and dinner with horrendous service (multiple instances of the waitresses attempting to remove my plate while I was clearly still eating, I literally had to tell them to stop, and I wasn’t even a slow eater). I have been a very respectful guest, and I do not think I deserve such treatment. My worst experience by far throughout my 15-day trip in Japan, and absolutely not acceptable.

The room was alright, dinner food quality was okay, but the restaurant service was the worst we've ever had in Japan. We arrived sharp at 7pm for dinner, and the first course has already been served at the table before we arrived at our private room. All other courses thereafter were served very quickly, as if they are about to close. TBH, I don’t know why they had to serve in such a rush, and they did not even wait for us to finish the dish before they served the next one. Given we are paying over $400 per person per night, I am not sure why this would be acceptable.

Absolutely amazing place, we had a room with private bath in our room, but wasn't really needed as they had sufficient baths that you can book in 45 minute sessions. Tattoos are fine here as you bath in private sessions. Dining is also booked in private sessions, so if they are booked out you will need to go into town for meals, but they have a shuttle that can take you in and pick you up. We managed to get a booking for one breakfast during our stay and we were not fans of the set menu.

It is the nice place to stay. There are 8 onsens but to use it it is required the reservations. In a peak time, it is a little bit difficult to get the reservations at the I want to take baths.

Gorgeous property, very friendly snd polite staff, delicious omakase food, in room hot spring bath! What more can you ask for? Maybe a better price since it is definitely quite expensive. But you DO get what you pay for.

Very polite and kind personnel, they really go beyond expectations. Private onsen are very nice, specially when traveling with family. Looking forward to stay again in the future.

A green building up on top of the hill. We loved this place because they have 4 private onsen. You only could book a slot for 45 minutes, which is enough time to shower, soak in the onsen and shower again. We went in November, which was cold to shower outdoors but once you get into the onsen, you’ll be super hot. Each private onsen has clear water and a brown water (which supposedly has more minerals) and is unique for Arima-onsen. The hotel staff were able to provide excellent restaurant recommendations during lunch. They also helped book a restaurant for us in Kobe for a steak dinner. They provided free shuttle service to the bus terminal. I highly recommend this hotel!

Marvelous hotel at Aruma. Our stay as foreigners was incredible, it's thoroughly recommended. We stayed on the presidential suite and the room quality will make you yearn to stay for more days thab your original plan, it's just that good. It's not without it's drawbacks of course. Regardless of a non complete domain of English language, the staff actually has more language skills than most hotels in Tokyo on my experience. Howevwer, if you're looking for an Onsen hotel on Aruma, rest assured this is an excellent choice for anyone.

We made our way up the mountain - walking - to our hotel, a shuttle bus stopped next to us and pointed to the hotel name on the side. Bleary from walking miles in 100° heat, I waved them off as we don't stay in hotels fancy enough for a shuttle bus to seek you out when your arrival is expected. 30 mins later, drenched in sweat and carrying backpacks that have turned into concrete bricks, we arrived to find them patiently waiting outside of the hotel with cloths to wipe away the sweat. Turns out today, we ARE those fancy people that stay in hotels with shuttle buses. We were in a traditional Japanese style ryokan room, with 9 onsens onsite and they provided us with typical Japanese pajamas and clothing to wear in the hotel and into town if we so chose. We had dinner at a small Japanese BBQ restaurant the hotel recommended and it was truthfully the best meal I have had since arriving in Japan. The shuttle took us and brought us back. When we returned to the room, we discovered they had set it up with traditional futons on the floor, and after one more onsen, in which I soaked in gold water, I laid my head down and slept the best I have in ages. The next morning after another relaxing onsen, we inquired about breakfast places and 1 in particular. Turns out the website was wrong and the restaurant wasn't open. They suggested an alternative we happily accepted and said we would leave in approximately 30 minutes when it opened. However, just a few moments later the gentleman returned to tell us that the restaurant we had wanted was open, and ready for us. The hotel had called and asked if they would be willing to open and serve us. We only found that out from the restaurant itself when we thanked them profusely for the delicious breakfast. The service, the amenities, and the hotel exceed expectations and are top notch. This was our favorite place to stay in all of our Japanese travels. I wish we could give them 10 stars.

An older, but very atmospheric japanese-style hotel with the kindest and most helpful staff and cute private onsen baths. We also loved the Kaiseki dinner, which was thoughtfully prepared to great quality, and compared to Kaiseki restaurant experiences in Kyoto and Osaka to a very competitive price. Arima itslef is also worth a visit with its restaurants, cute Japanese snack street and lovely hidden away temples.

My husband and I had the best time here. The onsens are excellent and the staff were so so kind and helpful. Thank you to Justin especially since we struggled with the language and he helped smooth that transition. Everyone was so nice. I could not recommend enough.

Recommend to drive to Arima. Really great experience in onsen, Kaiseki dinner & breakfast. Service was second to none, will definitely keep in future consideration.

Service, room and hot springs were absolutely top of the top. I don’t think I can justify staying anywhere else in Arima Onsen.

Traditional hotel located on top of a mountain, with great hot springs and near a small charming town. Rooms are arranged in traditional onsen style where you sleep on the floor and have people come in and set up your bed at bed time. If you decide to have dinner there, they have a separate room for your dinner and that is done in a traditional style as well. Overall, an amazing hotel with great staff. They have private onsens you could reserve if you stay there; so if you're not into public hot springs but still want the experience then this is your chance. The hotel has amazing staff that are very accommodating. They even have shuttles ready to take you into town at anytime. They're supper accommodating and even take the time to help you plan your day to the fullest. It's a bit expensive but worth the price. Highly recommended if you want to go to Kobe and try a traditional onsen.

Travelling to beautiful Kobe and my friends and I were fortunate enough to book a large room for the three of us to share. We had a large suitcase each, but they arranged a pick-up shuttle from the Arima Tourist Centre in the middle of town, just a stone’s throw away from Arima station. I do recommend taking them up on the offer of the shuttle services, as the hotel is up a very steep hill, and during summer with heavy bags it will be very tiring. The moment we arrived at the hotel, I knew immediately that we would receive wonderful service. We were greeted promptly and kindly, and the staff spoke fluent English. Our bags were delivered to our room while one of the staff spoke to us about the services they provided, as well as the information about the onsen and the town. Our room was absolutely lovely, a traditional tatami-floored room with beautifully comfortable traditional chairs and pillows. While we set our bags down, refreshed and went out to explore the town, room service laid out our futon, which were very comfortable to sleep on later that night. The view of the town from our window was very nice, although I suppose it differs for each room - regardless, view doesn’t need to count for quality when you have a beautiful town to visit on foot. I could find absolutely no fault with the staff members - every single man and woman who worked for the hotel was polite, incredibly helpful, and cheerful. They help you with recommendations and booking restaurants in advance, and they shuttled us to and from the location. We had a delicious okonomiyaki dinner in town and the hotel gave us a number to give to the restaurant owners so they could call the shuttle for us to get back. And they always serve you with a smile! We wanted to visit Mt. Rokko, and booking a ticket through the hotel for the rope car was half price through them. Also, we had missed the bus to get to the station, but a staff member immediately jumped into the shuttle bus and took us there himself. It’s these small, kind gestures that really make a stay in a place like this worthwhile - the kindness of the staff and how they go above and beyond to make your stay as pleasant as possible. The onsen baths are amazing! My friend and her husband book private onsen (which allows you a plentiful 45-minute slot) so they can get some privacy, but I experienced the ladies’ communal onsen and it’s very enjoyable. The foyer of the baths have baskets to put your personal belongings in, and a huge stack of towels for drying off. The washing area is clean and well-stocked with shampoos and body washes. The onsen themselves are excellent - the indoor one with clay-red water is soothing and hot, while the outdoor one is a little cooler (still pleasantly warm) and overlooks a lovely garden - perfect for relaxing. Once you’ve soaked enough, the foyer area also contains an area for moisturising, drying your hair and finishing up your toilette before coming back out into the world feeling like you’re floating. I may have been cheeky and bathed a couple of times a day, but there’s nothing better than a good soak after exploring the town! Thank you for your wonderful service!

What an experience I had.. I booked the superior Japanese style room without the in-room baths. Had no problem booking the private baths and the staff were exceptional. They came to pick us up at the bus station within 5 min. of calling and they treated me like a royalty. Also had the kaiseki dinner, which came with a variety of dishes unique to the area. Would def. recommend. Well worth the experience

Staying at Taketoritei was an absolute wonderful experience. The staff is so hospitable and friendly. They off shuttle service to town and try their best to help make reservations at restaurants in town since we opt out of the dinner option. (Personally do not like seafood) The private 45 minute onsen experience was wonderful and we were able to book two sessions for our one night stay. I would highly recommend staying at this location!

Beautiful resort fixed high up the mountain side. Service was excellent and extremely attentive to every detail. We booked a room which included both breakfast and dinner. Dinner was 12 courses! Be sure to have a large appetite if you are planning to indulge in the meals here. They will be likely to put you into long food coma. ;) The rooms are large (even the smallest) and offer springs in the room! I loved the traditional Japanese experience here. ;)
