A private collection museum with good collection of antiques. Entry fee is 100 rs. For photography an extra 100 should be paid. A small gift shop is situated inside the 3 storeyed building. You have to remove your shoes before entering. The property is little congested. So it is hard to enjoy the beautiful antiques.

It's a treasure trove of antiques. About 25000 items are stored in a not-so-random manner within the limited space. That space crunch is the only negative observation from my end, cause it lead us to not enjoy the splendid collections to their utmost glory. But I loved the artifacts and couldn't stop clicking pics. The 100 rupees spent on permission for using any camera (on phone or other devices) was most aptly justified for me. If you're looking for glimpses of Kerala's heritage in real life, don't miss this museum.

A very unlike place that we got to visit in Kochi!!! This privately set-up and managed museum of the rich and varied cultural heritage of Kerala is an experience of a new kind, indeed The founder has undoubtedly made a valuable contribution to the nation by assembling and curating 30+ thousand artefacts and items of historical significance. The beautiful wooden building with its exquisite carvings and enormous beams housing the three levels of exhibits by itself is a master display of the Malabar architecture. The collections represent centuries of cross cultural and multi religious richness of Kerala. Coins, jewellery, costumes, lifestyle items, pieces of earthenware and pottery constitute a major part of the museum. It was well worth an experience spending about two hours trying to get at least a glimpse of the state's history.

History, art, folklore through dollops of lifetime of passion by an individual. Loads of historical artefacts squeezed in rather small place though the house itself is a traditional Kerala style home. Wish they get a 10 times bigger space to display all the exhibits in a relaxed way with some explanation of each one including the era and the significance. Exhibits displayed in 3 floors range from cookware, jewellery, idols in wood and stone, Hindu/ Christian/ Mughal religion building entrance, lamps and other artefacts. Parking in front of entrance. Shoe racks for depositing shoes and seats to wear comfortably. Toilets in the back have sign that mainly meant for men. Entrance fee Rs 100 per person and Rs 100 extra to use camera.

The Museum is located at Thevara, near to Thevara Ferry Junction. Parking space is available beside the compound. The entry fee is Rs 100. For photography you need to take an extra ticket. The museum is well curated and maintained by a private trust helmed by Mr George. The daily affairs and administration is handled by Mrs Annie George. The artefacts are mainly consisting of wooden sculptures, paintings, utensils, pottery, ancient artifacts, Jewellery and cutleries apart from attractive antiques. The items are arranged in three floors with arrangements for purchasing Jwellery and textile materials /souvenirs. The place may not be suitable for elderly people view steep staircases to top floors. The footwears are not allowed inside the museum complex, so one should be prepared for alternative arrangement if you need one. The place is worth watching.. Lot of efforts have been put in by the trust.. Kudos to the team who maintains this property..

Museum is located in the Cochin city. You will see the traditional arts, weapons, old statue Hindu gods. Museum is good but not worth according to entry fees of Rs. 100 per person. You can take photographs in mobile with extra charges which is not expected from management or owners of the museum. Shopping inside the museum is very costly don't go for it.. . .

Opened in the year 2009, Kerala Folklore Museum🏯 occupies the largest ethnic collections of more than 6000 art works. It is situated 5km from 🚈Ernakulam Junction Railway Station and 7.5km from 🚈Ernakulam Town Railway Station. The first floor of the museum is named as Kalithattu, showcasing costumes of different traditional and ritual dance forms of Kerala like Theyyam, Kathakali, Mohiniyattam and Ottanthullal✌. Masks, puppets, ornaments, wood carvings, oil lamps, antique musical instruments, sculptures made of wood, bronze, copper, etc., are few other attractions of the Folklore Museum🙂. The entry fee is 💰Rs.100 plus Rs.100 for photography🙌...

The entry ticket costs more than double for foreigners. The collection in the museum itself is exemplary. Many antique items from all over India. More astonishing is almost everything in this museum was sourced by one man, funded out of his own pockets. Quick critique: The sheer volume of items in this place also detracts from the overall experience, as there is too much to see but not much opportunity to learn the detailed history behind each objects. I would prefer a historical museum with items arranged in chronological order instead of this haphazardness. All things considered, this is still a recommended place to visit for visitors who enjoy antiques and local culture.

A must visit if you are in and around Kochi, if you love art, architecture, handicrafts, antiques, heritage. You can get tickets for ₹100 and they charge another ₹100 for photography. If you got a good cam, 100 for photography is a good deal, because the place is huge. It has three floors, each better than the rest. The antiques here are such a delight, each with its own story.

It’s a must in order to experience local culture. You can observe, not only Kerala elements, but also from other regions of Southern India. Please, don’t compare it with other museums that are state-supported. This is a private initiative held only by the willingness of a family. They deserve to be supported through the visit, which takes something around one hour. If you’re in Fort Kochi, take a bus to New Bridge. From there you can take a bus to the museum.

Good museum that has collection of old artefacts of Kerela state. It’s a private museum and has really high entry fee around 200 per person which is really not the worth also they charge additional 100 rupees for photography. Apart from this they also have an exhibition sale where you can purchase clothes and jewellery inside the museum itself.

Kerala Folklore Museum is a dream project of George Thaliath and his wife Annie George. It is a Museum of traditional local architecture as well as crafts, folk art & antiques, with a cafe & shop. Kerala Folklore Museum is next to the Ferry Junction in Thevara. It is open from 09:30 am to 06:00 pm. The entrance fee for adults is Rs.100/- and Rs.50/- for children. You have to pay Rs.200/- if you are a foreigner. It has been hugely successful in both preserving and showcasing splendid collections of the rich folklore of India.

Had big expectations on this Kerala Folklore museum since it is in Top5 Cochin sight seeing suggestions in every website you visit. The ticket price is 200 per person (to my surprise in reviews posted earlier it states only 100 rs per person) and additional 100 rupees for taking photos inside. It contains one man's (proprietor's) 40 years hard work of collecting unique, antique and ancient objects. The objects like Urn, Knife, Photos, paintings, Statues, Ornaments, musical instruments, tables, ritual items, dress and much more are present here mainly. The building itself is made replicating of historical tradition of Malabar, Travancore style with antique door, staircases, ceiling, windows etc. But wait..! Is that all worth your visit? My personal opinion is certainly not!! The place is so clumsy and doesn't resemble like a museum at all. The area is very smaller for a Museum and all the items are kept very congested, scattered and so dense which gives an experience of visiting a store room or antique collection auction area rather than seeing a museum. The representative ladies will give you a small briefing in 2 minutes when you enter each floor but no clue later what you are looking in to and no one will assist. You have to read through the description tag on each items to understand what it is. In the top floor they are selling jewels and dresses which means actually you have things to visit only in ground and 1st floor, the 2nd floor in a commercial store. From my personal experience after visiting this spot I would say definitely it is a over rated spot..

This place in Kochi is one of the best place to learn about the old culture and architectural work of Kerala from ancient times. From outside this place seems like an old villa but inside you will find all types of sculptures from old times, manuscripts and many more historical artifacts from ancient Kerala. You will be amazed with the ambience of the place.

Great place to visit if you want to explore the cultural heritage and artefacts of Kerala. The museum has a large variety of antiques spread across three floors. You can also purchase some of the exhibited items like Kerala sarees, jewellery, perfumes and some souvenirs like fridge magnets at rs 200 each. You have to remove your shoes before entering the museum and have to climb the wooden stairs(safe for children and elderly people) to get to the different floors. Entry fee : 100 rs per person Camera charges 100rs extra (one camera ticket for a group) if you want to click pictures.

Good place to spend your time here with ancient artifact's. They have 100 rs per head charge which is worth paying. They will ask you for extraa 100 rs for photos but do not give them as you can capture the photos without paying as well. Museum have large variety of ancient artifact's along with Paintings. You can buy Kerala Silk sarees as well from here.

This museum in really beautiful and houses a ton of artefacts collected by the owner over the years, its a beautiful place to visit if you have an interest in history and art, there are 3 floors filled with monuments, murals and other collections that will leave you in awe. They have sell clothes, jewellery and other items on the second and third floor, if interested. We visited this place quite early in the morning and were the first visitors so it was quite empty at that time. Note: you will have to take off your footwear before entering but they do provide lockers for the same.

A good collection of various artifacts across Kerala. Its arrangements are really beautiful when considering that it was done a single person and it's private collection. I liked the exterior of the building as well. King Prince Charles had also visited this Muesem.

The place was nice to visit, if you like antique and historical things then it's a must visit. There are a lot of historical things which have been collected and restored by the museum's founder . Many old murties of deities, swords of kings , their clothing and sculpture. The only thing I didn't like was that they charge 100 RS. More for photography

The Kerala Folklore Museum in Thevara, Kochi, is a must-visit attraction for anyone interested in the rich cultural heritage of Kerala. From the moment you step inside, you are transported into a world of captivating artifacts, traditional art forms, and historical treasures that beautifully showcase the essence of Kerala's folklore and traditions. The museum featuring a diverse range of exhibits including ancient sculptures, exquisite costumes, intricate wood carvings, musical instruments, and an array of everyday items that offer a glimpse into the daily lives of the people of Kerala through the ages. One of the highlights of the museum is its stunning architecture, which seamlessly blends traditional Kerala style with modern design elements. I wish they would get a 10 times bigger space to display all the exhibits in a relaxed way with some explanation of each one including the era and the significance. Here Exhibits displayed in 3 floors range from cookware, jewellery, idols in wood and stone, Hindu/ Christian/ Mughal religion building entrances, lamps and other artefacts. Entrance fee Rs 100 per person and Rs 100 extra to use camera.

As my mom said, haven't ever visited a museum overflowing with artifacts, each speaking a story and yet all connected by a common thread of folklore. If you're a history enthusiast, you need at least four hours and maybe two visits to grasp all the information. If you're simply here for the photos, I'd say an hour. Would probably have to visit again to strengthen recall.

Collection of Kerala artifacts from last 2000 years. Contains historic items and preserved with complete information. There are guides available to provide information about the things placed. Arts in form of clothes, jwellery, weapons, utensils, vessel, mannequin, painting, ceiling, masks, etc can be found. The cost is ₹100 per person and ₹100 if camera is carried to take photos. The light is low and suits the ambience. Will take around 1-1.5 hours for casual tour but may take more depending on the interest of the person/group.

Absolutely worth it for the 100 Rs we pay. The museum is well maintained and neat. It is built within a span of 7 years with the hardwork of 65 artisans. The ground floor has malabar architecture style, first floor dedicated for kochin style and the 2nd floor follows travancore architecture style. So many artworks , sculptures and painting can be seen. A small cafe is available at the top floor and a traditional jewellery shop, sari shop (saris mainly from balaramapuram ) is available inside.

Wonderful place good collection, its soo good to see the old cultural things and preserved in very good condition. I recommend all to visit and have a walk through our history, which we are loosing in the fast modern world. The art work and the tradition are all in museums now, its a shame we lost most of it and became just a collectable item now. One walk through these collections gave me so much pride and joy that we have this wonderful history of folklore and little sad also we loose most of it on the way. Anyways nice and must place to visit when u are in kochi and feel the history of the place we grew up👍👍👍

I was looking forward to this, but was severely disappointed. The fees are very high and I had to pay 100 rupees more to take pictures. Yet, everybody took pictures and nobofy checked if you paid the fee for that. Also the museum is more of an eclectic array of antiques and statues. There are little to non descriptions. So most of the time you have no idea what you are looking at or why it is there. On some floors you can even buy som of the artifacts. So is it just a store with a museum as a side hustle? Do not recommend!

I would not say the best but it is nice place to visit once. The collection of the items of the museum is vast and good but it is densely packed. It would be great if they have enough space to accommodate each collection. There is an entry fees for each individuals and you need to put your shoes outside in the shoe rack. If you want to take your camera inside then you need to pay extra fees for it. There is an outlet for shopping which I found expensive.

Good place for historic items and preserved with complete information. There are guides available to provide information about the things placed. The light is low and suits the ambience. Will take around 2 hours for casual tour but may take more depending on the interest of the person.

Exceptional is an understatement. It literally demonstrates the rich history and culture of Kerala under one roof . Photography requires an additional 100rs ticket which is justifiable . Scope of improvement ? Hospitality and a bit of smile by the ladies in-charge for the tourists . It does not take much to be cordial .

The museum is well maintained and has a huge collection from centuries ago to more modern artefacts. Photography is not allowed inside unless you pay, so not many photos. Three entrance fees is a little high, but it seems worth it for the collection inside.

  • 3/5 Varada K R. 2 years ago on Google
They have quite a collection of things but there is no individual labelling under each item, and not enough details to convince the visitor of its authenticity. Would be worth the visit if the tickets were ₹50/person instead of ₹100. Still, interesting paintings and some interesting things are there.

This place is magical, mysterious, filled with antiques and artefacts displaying South Indian culture and folklore. It has the privilege of hosting Prince Charles in 2013. We had the pleasure of interacting with the charming Mrs Annie Thaliath, wife of the founder late Mr. George Thaliath and their two children Jacob & Elsa. A visit to this museum is highly recommended if you’re interested in history, art and culture.

Phenomenal Museum, With such a great experience. You can spend entire day here to understand Culture of Kerela and South India. It's a wealthy treasure worth Crores of Rupees and great amount of learning. Kudos to the Museum Management, the way they have preserved is really good. Variety 5 Star All aspects of culture and Life of 1000s of year is covered here. Cost only 100rs. It's like nothing. They could have charged 1000rs even it's a worth. There is also an exclusive sale of some of artifacts so those want to give an cultural touch to their house, shop or Office it's a great place to buy. For artists and creators it's a great place of Inspiration. You Must visit if you are visiting Kerela. You should start with this place..

A private museum with some great collection of ancient artifacts, mostly from the South of India. It's well maintained. The museum has 3 floors. It's an interesting place where one can spend about a couple of hours. The entrance ticket was 100 Rupees. Need to pay separate for clicking photos inside.

It has Very rare , vast n precious collection. The main thing to appreciate is this is private collection n they have maintained it too well. Must visit place in Cochin if you are interested about folk culture of Kerala

  • 4/5 Ashwini B. 1 year ago on Google
Nice collection of artefacts . This is privately collected ancient artefacts from various places. Museum is nicely maintained. There is so much to see probably it would take 3-4 hrs. But since we had less time we covered it in 30-45 mins. 3 floors of collection.

I was thoroughly impressed with the experience. The museum houses a vast collection of old artifacts and exhibits that beautifully depict Kerala's rich culture and traditions. The exhibits are well-maintained and organized, making it easy to navigate through the different sections. From ancient pottery and coins to traditional costumes and musical instruments, the museum offers a fascinating glimpse into Kerala's history and heritage. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and they are more than happy to answer any questions and provide additional information about the exhibits. Good parking space available to park your bikes or cars, the museum also has a section wherein you can buy clothes

Great collection of artifacts of various eras. 100Rs. per person entry fee and an additional 100Rs. for a photography pass. Well labeled, but there was a lack of a human guide to explain about the artifacts found there. Nice place to stop by for a brief visit.

  • 4/5 Krunal V. 10 months ago on Google
Have good collection of heritage items. Entire fees is Rs.100 and they charge extra for taking pictures. Place is well managed but have very narrow navigation passage which might lead to a damage of the items... so be careful with that

A little too overwhelming and cluttered with artefacts but a really commendable effort to bring a lot of traditional artefacts across Kerala under one roof. Nice architecture

The folklore museum was an enchanting experience! It beautifully showcased the rich cultural heritage and traditions of the Kerala. The exhibits were well-curated, offering insightful glimpses into the past. I must say, Mr. George had devoted his life and wealth into this museum. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable, especially Ms. Meenu, enhancing the overall visit. I thoroughly enjoyed exploring the various artifacts and learning about the folklore tales. It's a must-visit for anyone interested in history and local folklore, and have come to Kochi. Please support this museum to the fullest.

Folkfore museum. I am not a museum going person but I found this place really interesting and full of art from ancient to modern times. Must visit for every Indian. Entry fee rs 100 per person. Rs 100 extra to take pics inside museum.

Lots of very interesting and nice looking items. But they are not organized in a meaningful style. The place is packed with items and looks more like an antique shop than a museum. It's worth visiting though.

Awesome collection of artifacts from across the southern states of south India . You can see many different kinds of paintings, statues , scriptures and vintage relics . You can buy few things as well - they have one floor dedicated to excess stuff that is antique . Also you can buy locals art stuff and gold plated jewellery with semi precious stones .

This place is GREAT! I’m from Philippines and I really appreciated my visit here. The people in charge are very accomodating and kind. The place itself is truly historical. I can’t believe they were able to preserve such ancient collections. Thank you for the awesome experience!

I recently visited the 'Kerala Folklore Museum', and I wasn't happy with the way the staff treated visitors. From the reception onwards, their behavior seemed rude and arrogant. I started questioning whether it was worth paying Rs. 200 for the entry fee and an extra charge of Rs.100 for "mobile photography" (Charges vary for foreigners). The staff's attitude varied towards Indian visitors and foreigners. They struggled with languages, especially Hindi, and could only provide pre-learned English explanations. Anything beyond their script left them stumbling. The exhibition areas were overcrowded with artifacts, making it feel suffocating and chaotic. Overall, my experience was unpleasant, and it made me question the true motive of the founder.
