Place is so clean and well maintained. The guide helped us understand the rich culture and process of extracting coir. One should visit and understand the culture which was originated in India. This will help carry our lost culture and tradional methods for humanity. I felt the innovative products in the display to be made available for sale to general public. Like the paintings and art, which could be a gr8 collectors art.

This museum was so creative. Everything here was made of coir, the remaining stuff that comes off when we cut coconuts. The scrapes of coconuts basically. So creative and beautiful. The cleanliness and awareness of the museum is awesome. Loved the ganeshji made of coir. There were many items made of coir. So beautiful 😍 Loved the services too. Thanks.

Important: please carry a payment card with you ( Debit or credit) for buying tickets and souvenirs. They do not accept cash or UPI. So the place is very well maintained and clean. The work has been perfectly placed and exhibited. There could have been more items in the souvenir shop. It takes 20-30 minutes to visit the place. The staff knows Hindi, Malayalam and English and they are very polite. You can take a ticket for taking pictures as well. Very affordable. If you want to buy anything, they have mats available and very less decor items. They are closed in Monday.

This is an amazing museum with lots of hand crafted coir products. There is a guide who will walk with us and explain everything in details. They have a shop where we can buy some good handcrafted coir decorative and products. They won't accept any currencies due to covid situation, so we have to pay thru card.

The museum has varieties of machines and art works made of coconut. The lady guide explained us the story behind the museum and all related questions. The entry fee is very minimal. There is a shop also where you can buy coir made products at reasonable price as this is a government shop.

As a part of our Kerala itinerary, visited the museum. A very good insight on conversion of the coir into a variety of products. Though the plastics have played spoilsport in their marketshare, the reason is also the high costs. The Bengal connection was an interesting part of history. The government must remove taxes of all types for these products

During the Diamond Jubilee year, Coir Board built an International Coir Museum that showcases historical events and the progression of technological breakthroughs in the Coir Sector. On May 27, 2014, the International Museum was opened at the Coir Board Complex in Kalavoor by the Honorable Chief Minister of Kerala, Shri Oommen Chandy. The public may now visit this museum. The International Coir Museum was founded to present the growth of the coir business via the most recent advancements that have sparked a revolution. Alleppey's tourism map mentions this museum as a beautiful location. The museum also showcases the evolution of the coir industry's traditional methods, such as retting and fiber extraction, the introduction of mechanization in the coir business, etc. Visitors are taken on a brief video tour of the history of the coir industry, including its inception, expansion, and current advancements resulting from ongoing research and development. This will provide nostalgic memories of the coir business. The Museum is connected to a gift shop where guests may enjoy SHOPPING a variety of coir handicrafts, doormats, ornaments, etc.

    1. Good museum. 2. Needs to upgrade the sovenier items sold at the thrift shop. 3. A proper guide should be their to show the things and introduce people to the art and craft.

Already mentioned that they only take credit and debit cards. The museum will only take 20 to 30 mins of your time . And if you are interested in coir or things from coir are made can be visited apart from that the souvenir shop has some nice items priced reasonably

This museum showcases the building of coir industry. Coir is made from the shell and fiber of coconuts. The industry took hold in the 1850s. Many products of everyday use is produced and sold around the world. They have equipment to make coir from the early days till the 20th century. Fascinating place. I would recommend this place for those interested in history and manufacturing development in the area.

A small yet quite interesting museum exhibiting items made from coconut coir products. Wonderful artefacts, sculptures and designs made out of coir on display. It also has a section that has the actual machinery used to prepare coir products. It also showcases the traditional method of extracting fibre and retting coir used during the pre-mechanised times. Plus, it has a decent souvenir shop from where you can buy handicrafts and ornaments made at the museum itself. The museum guide was friendly and did a good job of informing us about the development of coir industry though the ages. Entry tickets are priced at 20 rupees per person. Photography is charged at 50 rupees. However, they accept only card payment which is a big bummer. Hope they start cash and UPI soon. Another down side was the ticketing staff. I found them disinterested and unwelcoming. Half an hour is sufficient to check out the whole museum. It is located on the highway so you can easily spot it. It was a great experience to visit this museum. It is a good option to explore something different and interesting in Kerala. A recommended visit to learn about this lesser known industry of India.

This is an international museum in Alleppey, which proved surprisingly interesting, and well-curated. Coir is coconut fibre, extracted from the outer husk of coconut. The museum sets out the history of the manufacture and uses of coir, such as beds, mats and carpets, which were still being made on the premises. It's colourful, interactive, and engaging.

International coir museum is not much worth it as we think. Only card payment is accepted in the ticket counter. 20 rupees per adult ticket for mobile photography they are charging Rs 50. Please don't buy photography tickets because there is nothing inside for photography. Toilet facility is good. Only 10 minutes is enough to watch this museum.

This is a place located in Alappuzha on highway to kochi. This Museum is dedicated to coir industry. Displays many items made of coir, processes in making coir and it's products and various related machinery. Not a very huge Museum but does the job very well. Had a small souvenir shop where one can find quite a few items at much cheaper process compared to market/other commercial souvenir shops. Must visit place if you are in Alappuzha.

I had never known so many applications of Coir (the coconut skin). There were ropes, mats, furniture and even a house built from coir. A lady guided us in the entire museum and she has an immense knowledge about the place. They also help you in starting your own firm with coir machines, one can invest from min 1.5lacs to 15lacs to manufacture several products from coir. One can also avail compensation from the Govt for starting their company.

It takes you through the journey of coir making by hand and how it is done presently with the help of machines. Since machines are now being used the coir is now exported as the production has gone up. The various products on display are also interesting (like the necklace in the pic is made of coir)

A museum showcasing the history of the Coir industry in Kerala. Handicrafts made with Coir are showcased here. A museum guide will guide you through the exhibits. Tour can get a bit technical as they showcase the different coir extraction machines. Souvenir shop is average.

Some artwork made out of coir was displayed. They also had displayed the different machines that are used to rett the coir and the looms. Could potentially be better if someone did a guided tour, especially of the coir making process and the machines. There is some information printed beside the displays, but the looms are not explained. A demo would make the place really worth the visit. Entry fee is 20 per head, they only accept card.

This place is fantastic. The reason for giving 4 stars because when we went there there was no electricity and there are no power backup in the premise. One lady guide accompanied us and she was wonderful. The museum tells you the history of the commercial coir industry in India. Much important information shared during the guided tour. Many old machines arOne small souvenir shop is also present within the premise, but it's not very inspiring.

The coir museum is good but the security guard is too bad. The whole experience would have better if the people gaurd was polite enough. The museum accepts only card payment for buying tickets and any souvenir. We were suppose to buy many items for our well-wishers but the gaurd didn't allow us to go out to fetch cards for payment from car. Rest assured the labour that was put in one mat is tremendous. You get to see how they weave the coir from coconut shell into desired product.
