Kuthiramalika Palace is one of the architectural wonders in the vast complex of royal buildings situated near the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram. Built by Sri Swathi Thirunal, Kuthiramalika or Puthenmalika is named after the 122 horsesthat are carved into the wooden wall brackets that support the southern roof. It is a perfect example of the traditional Kerala style of architecture, and impresses visitors with its intricate carvings, huge pillars and traditional style of flooring. A guided tour is available inside the palace. Kuthiramalika is a perfect venue for those in search of places with historical and architectural significance.

Even though all rooms are not open to public, it is still the best palace open to public. Lot of precious collection, ivory, wonderful architecture, Chinese gifts, Belgium crystal lamps etc. It is still under a trust and not under the government. Entry fee is there and in addition, special charge of Rs 20 should be also given for photography outside. Free guide is available.

This is the estwhile palace of the Travancore royal family which is now turned into a museum. The palace roof is carved into horse face hence the name. The entry fee for Indian nationals is 70/- and foreigners is 150/- This includes a guided tour of the palace. The artefacts are quite well preserved and the guide was knowledgeable I won’t advise this as a must visit place but a good option if you like history and have a couple of hours to spare This palace is located next to the famous Padmanabhaswami temple so you can club the two spots too!

Kuthiramalika, is a stunning historical palace in Trivandrum, Kerala. Its intricate architecture, featuring traditional Kerala design elements, is a true testament to the region's rich cultural heritage. The beautifully carved wooden horses that adorn the exterior walls give the palace its unique name, meaning "palace of horses." Walking through the corridors of Kuthiramalika is like stepping back in time. The palace houses a rich collection of artifacts, paintings, and royal memorabilia, providing visitors with a glimpse into the lives of the Travancore rulers. The attention to detail in the wooden carvings, ornate ceilings, and exquisite frescoes is truly remarkable. The palace's serene courtyard and lush gardens offer a tranquil escape from the bustling city. The guided tours are informative and offer insights into the history and significance of each room and artifact. Whether you're an architecture enthusiast, a history buff, or simply looking for a cultural experience, Kuthiramalika is a must-visit destination in Trivandrum. Just make sure to check the visiting hours and any entry requirements before planning your trip.

This is located in the east Noida on the way of the alley leading to the temple. In total one has to buy a ticket for ₹100. This will allow into this main museum along with a smaller museum after this. The royal family of Travancore has many artefacts kept in this place which was used as residential as well as a guesthouse back in the days. Once you buy ticket to this, you will be grouped and there will be one person who will guide you alongside. Please be mindful that photography inside strictly prohibited. One can however, have mobile photography done by taking an extra ticket of ₹50. The tour itself inside is very insightful and offers great learning into the lifestyle of the royal family. This is highly recommended for people who visit the temple to take two hours out and also take a tour of this museum

Kuthirika Malika palace. Beautiful, traditional Kerala-style architecture of this royal palace. Huge place to walk around. Highly recommend visiting this, if you are in Kerala. Entry ticket is Rs70/person (rs 200 for foreigners) and includes a guided tour. Palace has 80 rooms, but only 25 rooms available for visitors to see. Tickets can be bought on the spot. Photography inside the palace is not allowed There is also an art gallery, which is another Rs30/person. There is a small cafe serving tea and coffee

A Captivating Journey into History: Kuthira Maliga Palace Museum Located in Trivandrum, Kerala, the Kuthira Maliga Palace Museum offers a mesmerizing glimpse into the region's rich cultural heritage. This majestic palace-turned-museum features intricate architecture, captivating exhibits, and knowledgeable guides. While amenities for visitors could be improved, the overall experience is unforgettable. Highlights include royal memorabilia, vintage costumes, and well-maintained gardens. Enhancements in signage and accessibility would further enhance the visit. Despite these minor shortcomings, Kuthira Maliga Palace Museum is a must-visit destination for history enthusiasts, offering a captivating journey through Kerala's past.

History behind. Built in the 1840s, Kuthiramalika is an example of traditional Kerala architecture, with its typical sloping roofs, overhanging eaves, pillared verandahs and enclosed courtyards. Intricate carvings adorn the wooden ceilings, with each room having a distinctive pattern. The construction of the palace was completed by 5000 Vishwakarmas in four years. The palace is made from teakwood, rosewood, marble, and granite. The roof of the palace is made of wood and 42 beams support the carved patterns. The roof is supported by granite pillars. Floral motifs dot the ceiling of the verandah. The main 16 rooms of the palace are constructed in 16 different patterns. In all, the palace contains 80 rooms, of which 20 were opened for visitors in 1995. The floor inside the palace is made of egg whites, charcoal, and limestone, which make it cold and smooth even in hot weather conditions. The concert venue built in the palace premises uses traditional sound reflectors comprising fifty clay pots hung upside down from the ceiling. ticket price -70 adults.

I liked the place very much. You can get tickets at the entrance. A guide will accompany you, usually a group and take you around the palace. The guide explains about the palace and the various articles used by the royal family. There are about 84 rooms, but only 24 rooms are open for public viewing. The rest are closed. It takes about 2 hours to see. The palace will be closed by 5:30 p.m. Ensure you are there by 3 p.m. You can take photographs of the palace exterior with permission. No photography is allowed inside the palace. Also, no chappals are allowed inside. There is a separate place to keep them safely with a nominal charge. Parking is limited inside. Around 8 to 10 cars.

Kuthiramalika Palace Museum, a classic specimen of Kerala Architectureis situated in 'Kuthiramalika'. The palace, with its excellent carvings and amazing architectural designs, is by itself a slice of heritage. The museum has a wide range of exhibits representing the erstwhile state of Travancore. The Kuthiramalika Palace was built by His Highness the Maharaja Swathi Thirunal Balarama Varma of Travancore. The Palace museum adorned with paintings and amusing collections of the erstwhile royal family. It is an example of Travancore style of architecture. The palace with its white washed walls, granite and marble cables supporting the wooden gables and the slatted windows beneath the red-tiled windows reflects the typical KeralaArchitectural Style. Each of the 16 rooms of the palace has different ceilings carved in sandalwood. It is said that it took 5,000 workers and four years to complete the construction work of the palace. Artifacts On Display The Museum displays the paintings and various priceless collections of the royal family. The Paintings and other curios offer a rare glimpse into the private lives of the members of the royal family. The first room of the palace houses 14 life-size figures depicting various scenes from the Kerala legends and Kathakali. Magnificent ivory cots, thrones of kings, a musical tree that produces the eight 'swaras' when tapped, etc are a few of the attractions of the museum. Timings The Palace and Museum is open to visitors on all days except Monday from 8.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. and from 3 to 5.30 p.m. Entry fee is Rs. 10 per head. Photography is not permitted within the building.

Very beautiful museum just next to temple, entrance is exactly opposite to cloak room and can be missed. Will recommend to visit if visiting temple. It is basically royal palace of Raja Varma converted to museum. It houses gifts and highly unique royal objects like porcelain jars, paintings, weapons, pooja items. The staff provides tour and explains very well about significance of each section.

The rare 5 star for exceptional collections, fair curation and solid historical information. Would not have found this without our guide. No photos, unfortunately, because there is far more here than you can remember and many, many ideas you’d like the capture. Only perhaps 1/4 or 1/3 of the palace rooms are open to the public. Just around the corner from the Vishnu temple, easily accessed (if you are Hindu) from the palace’s rear exit.

Good atmosphere where we can calm our mind and walk through the steps of history. The might of ancient architecture is mind blowing. Various imported items including thrones, ornaments, lamps, etc pleasures our eyes. Rare and antique items like Ivory throne, pallaquines and jewels are just amazing. We can sit and enjoy in places where kings and Queens used to sit. Even after centuries the structure is still strong. Nb:- cameras are not allowed inside

Very nice and beautiful palace to visit in Thiruvananthapuram. Located in central area has good access by local transport. The ticket is INR 50 for palace and INR 20 for art/photo gallery. They also took INR 50 for mobile camera which I feel is unnecessary and should be included in palace ticket. Photography inside palace is not allowed even though you have Rs 50 ticket which is only for outside palace photography.

One can get a detailed account of the generations of rulers from the Royal family who ruled the erstwhile princely state of Thiruvithamkoor, the gifts they received from all around the world etc. The architecture of the palace is another yet the important factor to make a visit for.

The words Kuthira Malika means ‘mansion of horses’ and the uninitiated may think that the palace is a grand stable built to house horses. In reality, the building gets the name from the row of horses that are sculpted into the brackets that support the roof. The palace, also known as Puthen Malika Palace, is adjacent to the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram. It was built by Swathi Thirunal Balarama Varma, the ruler of the former Kingdom of Travancore who was a social reformer and poet and musician. It was built in the traditional Kerala style in the 1840s, with pillared verandahs and overhanging eaves. One part of the palace is a museum that houses many valuable objects and relics owned by the royal family. The celebrated Navarathri Mandapam, which is the venue of famous music concerts, is located just in front of Kuthira Malika Palace. The mandapam has got unique sound reflectors in the form of hanging earthen pots. This sound arrangement has won acclaim because of the excellent acoustic effect it produces.

The courtyard of Kuthiramalika is the venue for Swathi Sangeethotsavam, also known as Kuthiramalika Festival, a yearly music festival commemorating the legacy of Swathi Thirunal... This music festival is conducted from 6 to 12 January every year...

Guides are available for free.. They give you lot of knowledge on the travencore dynasty and palace of last king. We can see the palace is mix of British , Chinese and indian architecture . Not all the rooms in palace are accessible for tourists most of them are kept for themselves by the royal family There is a way to padmanabeshwara temple from the palace's first floor Overall when you come out of this palace you will come to know many things about travencore dynasty and royal family... Must watch for tourists visiting tiruvananthapuram

Nice place to visit. Still owned and maintained by the Travancore Royal family. Lots of items in display a huge collection of elephant tusk, gifts from many foreign Kings who have done trade with travancore, a vast collection of historical photos of Travancore Royal family. My personal favorites are two throne one made of Crystal and another made of Ivory. And a chemically preserved Elephants head along with it's tusk which was the tallest elephant in the kingdom and it served three kings during it's lifetime. I personally suggest you to read the book the Ivory Throne by manu s pillai or watch interviews of manu s pillai on YouTube to get more knowledge of the Travancore Royal Family.

This is a beautiful, mostly wooden structure. Like most Kerala architecture it is simple yet elegant. The carvings made of either high quality teak or rose wood are spectacular. There is a modest entrance fee for the museum. There are lush gardens and lawns around the palace. The palace gets its name from the 122 horses that are carved into the wooden wall brackets that support the southern roof. The Travancore Royal Family occupied the approximately 80 rooms of the palace. However currently only 20 are open for the general public. A guided tour is available inside the palace. I would rate this 5 stars for its architecture and historic significance.

Built by Sri Swathi Thirunal, The palace is a must see place to understand the history of the Travancore royal family. The palace is well maintained and showcases the rich heritage of the royal family. It's a perfect example of the traditional Kerala and Thanjavur style of architecture. A guided tour is available inside the palace and I would really recommend to utilise this facility to understand the historical architectural significance. Entrance fee - Rs 50.
