I don't think this place a Bird sanctuary as I couldn't see a single bird even a crow. You can find a lot of mosquitoes 🦟 and some couples sitting here and there. Not a worthy place to visit. Also the surroundings are not at all maintained properly. The entry fee is just 10/- per head.

Small area, kerala forest department under area. Mangalavanam Bird Sanctuary is one of the most popular bird sanctuaries in Kerala. It is located on an island in the heart of Kochi city. It covers an area of 0.0274 sq km. Many migratory birds visit this place which is full of mangroves and trees. Spiders and bats are the main attractions of this place. This urban forest under the Forest Department has no leave. Admission is free for visitors every day from 9.30 am to 5.30 pm. You can relax in the shade of the greenery, breathe in the fresh air, and enjoy a variety of birds and butterflies. It's just that this busy city has not yet taken full advantage of that possibility

It is a small area, covered with mangroves. We were not lucky enough to see any birds other than hundreds of bats hangin on one of the big tree in the santuary. There are few seats available 4-5 maximum & a watch tower. 100 meters up and down walkway only. we could complete the visit in 15-20 minutes

𝐅𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟑 If this was well maintained by the authorities, perhaps this would have been a nice place but the reality is a bit different. • 𝐓𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐭 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐞 🎫 For Adults its 10/- • 𝐓𝐨𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐬 🚻 I did see some toilets signs inside. • 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 🅿️ There is no designated parking area but on a normal day, you can park along the road without any trouble. Even Buses can be parked on the side. • 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐟𝐟 👩‍💼 Only saw one staff who was selling the tickets. She was quite pleasant. • 𝐁𝐢𝐫𝐝𝐬 🐦 I didn't see any birds but I did see alot of bats hanging from a tall tree (look up from the ticket counter, above the building) • 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈 𝐟𝐞𝐥𝐭 This place is not at all maintained properly. The routes are not marked. You dont know where to go and where not to go. There is no map to show us the area. The decoration items (statues of animals & birds) are almost all destroyed or in ruins. 10 rupees is a low price for a tourist spot but even that is not worth it (if you are coming for sightseeing). Instead of calling it a Bird Sanctuary, maybe its better we call it a Couples Sanctuary because I didn't see any birds but I did see couples on each and every bench 😂 In the end thats all this is. It's a place people go to sit and talk with their lovers. So, if you are not going for that, then I suggest you skip this place 🙂

If you wanna go back to your old times or if you wanna feel fresh air and calm in the middle of city you should visit this place. Cause this place is capable to provide those. Well it's opens at 9 am to 5 pm.its close to high court and marine drive. It's a better place to bring young kids and family. If you are nostalgic about your village life you may visit this place. If the authority could take Care of this place it may look more beautiful because it's ain't have proper path to walk. But I just felt soo relaxed when I visited this place

Mangalavanam is an ecologically sensitive area situated at the centre of the indian city of kochi, covering about 2.74 hectares. It also houses a shallow tidal lake connected with Kochi backwaters by a canal. It is situated behind the Highcourt of kerala building. It is a nesting ground for a large variety of migratory birds and supports many types of mangrove .The Managalavanam is often regarded as the "green lung of Kochi"considering its role in keeping the city's air pollution under check. The area is a roosting place for many kinds of resident and migratory birds.  Mangalavanam is primarily a bird refuge. A bird survey conducted in May 2006 found that there were 194 birds belonging to 32 species. The total number of bird species recorded so far from the area is 72. Some of the birds found are common redshank, common greenshank, brahminy kite, white-breasted waterhen and marsh sandpiper. In a recent study revealed six species of mammals Indian flying-fox, painted bat, three-striped palm squirrel/dusky palm squirrel, house rat/black rat, bandicota, and Eurasian otter. Two species of amphibians, Limnonectes limnocharis and Duttaphrynus melanostictus, and seven species of fishes Anabas testudineus, Striped panchax, Malabar swamp eel, Orange chromide, Blackline rasbora, Etroplus suratensis and Sarotherodon mossambica are found here.

The wild inside a crowd😻 A calm green plot for evenings of busy life, fresh air, birds and the beauty of nature👌 Mangalavanam is very nearer to the High court and Marine drive. We can spent time there between 9.00 AM & 5.00 PM. A good population of mangroves makes this Bird sanctuary even more special. But the area is not that much maintained and the paths inside the bird sanctuary are not good to walk. Even though we can enjoy the peace of mind there👌

The sanctuary has a lush green environment that showcases a noticeable temperature difference upon entry. However, the upkeep of the sanctuary leaves something to be desired. With proper maintenance, it could become an ideal destination for tranquility and escape from the bustling city life. The entrance fee is priced at rupees 10 per person. During my visit, I encountered only a few crows and bats, possibly due to unfortunate timing on my part.

The Mangalavanam Bird Sanctuary is an ecologically sensitive area situated at the centre of Kochi behind the Kerala High Court building fittingly dubbed as the 'green lung of Kochi'. The place primarily is a bird refuge surrounded by the Arabian Sea and backwaters, Mangalavanam is a congregation of communally breeding birds🤩❤️😇🍃

Such a large forest within the city is a miracle. But it seemed that it was not maintained properly. There is nothing special to see except some greenery. Called a bird sanctuary, only crows and bats can be seen directly there. Some other pictures of birds have been printed. Adjacent to this bird sanctuary is the old railway station of Ernakulam, which is historically important and is being destroyed by forest. If it is properly maintained, it will be a tourist place.

You can feel the sanctuary vibe, when you reach the high court junction, I was super disappointed because ,it was temporarily closed due to the Omicron period ,but I wasn't aware of it,inspite of me coming from Coimbatore,I became (in Malayalam they say "moonji"),so please make sure it's open before you come.but still the whole surrounding was super ecological. If you love nature, just take a look.

It's a quiet place we didn't believe it is existing in the middle of city. The a good place to visit in hot time. Good ambience and atmosphere. It's cool over there and unfortunately when I visited I have seen only few birds 🐦might be because of the season. Anyway I recommend everyone to visit here.

Situated in the center of Ernakulam town, yet untouched by any of its rhythm. Right time is essential to watch a few birds and I was lucky to spot a few. There is no use to blame anyone if you don't see any birds here it's just that you chose a wrong time. Better luck next time.

Pathetic place. Doesn't have much to see. No clear cut walking lanes. 2 or 3 benches. Only a few metres from its entrance is an accessible area. Rest all have no roads or anything. The ones are full of mud and unable to walk. The toilet is there inside. 10rs for entry. Max 3 hrs inside per ticket, but no one really checks. But honestly I'm so disappointed. Just went and got out in just less than 3 minutes. Useless waste of time

It's very small for a bird sanctuary but if you want spend some time peacefully in the middle of the city, it is one of the best option you have . Very good.. in the heart of eranakulam...Forests are called lungs of the earth or nature! Forests are one of the most important natural resources that have been gifted to mankind for its sustained existence on earth. Conservation of forests is therefore a necessity that requires to be addressed as a priority. Forests provide us with huge amounts of tangible and intangible benefits, without which human existence would be threatened.Hence, for the survival of human beings, a holistic approach is required to be adopted towards a sustainable way to maintain our forests and meet our needs at the same time so that there is a mutually beneficial co-existence of all. Forests have a major role to play in enhancing the quality of our environment. Trees take in carbon dioxide and release oxygen into the air thereby helping in keeping the environment healthy and beautiful. Forests influence local and global climate. They conserve soil by preventing rapid runoff of water after heavy rains, thereby reducing soil erosion and minimizing floods. Forests are also vital for increasing our ground water. Because of the thick humus layer, loose soil, and soil-retaining powers of the long roots of trees, forests are vitally important for preserving adequate water supplies. Restrictions need to be put in place to conserve forests. With the alarming rate of deforestation, measures need to be put in place to protect wildlife, the environment, and all the living things that depend on forests for their survival. People need to be educated on the importance of conserving forests, as it will empower them to act appropriately such as planting more trees instead of cutting them. Strict measures need to be made to punish those who violate the set rules. Such measures should be taken to regulate grazing, cutting down of trees, tribal activities, forest fires etc. Forests are vital for human existence and if nothing is done to conserve them all living things are in danger of extinction. So, everyone should conserve forests!

Situated in the middle of crowded city, it is the smallest bird Sanctuary in Kerala. It is a good place of interest for ornithologists and bird lovers. Also, a good place to relieve the tension of crowded city. The sanctuary is bounded by mangrove forest and a lake. There is a tree house where you can enjoy the beauty of forest. The entry is free, and there is space for parking.

Just a green place in the heart of Cochin💚 Most of its premises are heavily polluted and dumbed with plastic wastes. The mangrove forests are looking ugly due to no care and beautification. Mainly the nearby old railway station area is now a total shame for Kerala. This is a very famous place situated very close to the Highcourt of Kerala. All the authorities are watching the current depleted state of this greenery. But no effective actions on protection or rejuvenation of this place is taken by nobody.

The place is not that much well maintained, there are plastic waste everywhere, the place is not organised. You can find few benches to sit relax for a few minutes. Its a bird sanctuary but i couldn't find that many birds there. The ticket is of 10/-.

More opportunities for eco-tourism development is there. When I visited there, the watch tower was not functioning and when asked they said it was broken for long time. Some boats were there upside down position, i don't know their purpose is. It's a favorite spot for loving couples, we can see many there.

Not even one star . Why is this place even open Charged 10 rs per person entry ticket . the place is not maintained and the tower is closed . they can charge higher and maintain the place . It just had a 5 min walk inside and that is all . I was not able to see birds except bats. Maybe it should be named bat sanctuary . jokes aside if maintained and if there is a longer pathway then people can enjoy some peace in the city. The place has a good potential for that.

The spectacle of the pigeons is amazing. Worth watching. The floor was scorching too much, I could barely step on with the soles of my feet. When I visit Hindu temples, I am still surprised that in their rules prior to entering them it continues to appear that "women are forbidden to enter if they are with their menstrual period". They should change this type of rules, a woman is not impure or affects anything of the life of the temple or the visit that women have menstruation, on the contrary, humanity has not become extinct thanks to that feminine characteristic and our blood.

This is a hidden spot in the city. It's behind the High Court, where I passed by all this while but never noticed it. I could not spot any birds in the 30 minutes I was there. But happy I explored the place. It's not a large place for us to explore because walkable or space we can enter is limited. If I had spent more time, I might have seen some birds. Need some time and patience at the place if we need to spot birds. Another thing I noticed is that the place is used for privacy by some young couples and students. The entry fee is INR 10/-

I can’t believe this is a bird sanctuary. The only thing I like is the name board located at the entrance of the sanctuary it’s looks very forest feel. But when we enter to the sanctuary our complete expectations will fail. We can’t see any birds or any small creatures due to over grassing. The walkway is completely pathetic only 50-100m walkways available. One watching tower located it’s on the pathetic condition and that is also closed due to lack of maintenance. I can’t understand why authorities taking 10rs for these facilities. Top authority and government definitely consider this situation of sanctuary. In front of honourable high court.. centre of Ernakulam district😕

Needs a lot more maintainence and cleaning. Stagnent dirty water here is a reason for the plenty of mosquitoes in this place.

In the middle of the busiest city, Mangalavanam bird sanctuary is a quiet and attractive place for nature lovers, Thick forest which includes, herbs, shrubs and treehouse in the middle at the top of a big tree, a place like a slum and a lake covered by trees overall its a wonderful treat for eyes, birds are freely visible here, A good place to take a rest with friends, family or couples. Mangalavanam is an ecologically sensitive area situated at the centre of Kochi covering about 2.74 hectares. It also houses a shallow tidal lake connected with Kochi. It is known as the "lungs of Kochi",considering its role in keeping the city's air pollution under check. The area is a roosting place for many kinds of resident and migratory birds.

A forest like area in the mid of a huge city. They says there are wide varieties of birds but all i saw there were mosquitos and pictures of birds. May be i visited offseason. Environment gives a good vibe especially the "erumadam"

Nature blends well with the city to provide a much needed energy. Cutting down nature & natural habitats are now a common factor in the name of development is a dooms theory. Humans can survive only along with nature.

It's actually not a big place but the most important thing is it's situated in the heart of the city. I'm not sure that there are any birds around to watch. The main attraction is the tree house. It's a pretty good view from above. Only a small portion of the forest is open to public other area is densely filled with mangroves. No entry fee. It's actually free.

A small bird sanctuary and a tree house from where you can take beautiful picture of birds. There's an awesome statue of Buddha.

Manglavanam Bird Sanctuary has a lot of potential but is lacking proper management. It seems like the government is not putting in the time and resources to maintain it. Visiting this area can be really rewarding, with masses of birds, some rare and beautiful varieties.

Good place to go relax. We didn't see so many birds as shown in the board. There were so many Bats. It is really a calm and quite place. Don't expect to see variety of birds.

A great mangroove forest area in the heart of the city, which is poorly maintained. Nothing to visit here except some thickly grown trees and mangroves. You'll have to pay 250 Rs. for Camera entry, wherein we have only a very small area to visit, that too which will take below 10 mins.

Unfortunately it's not a bird sanctuary. 😬 Not maintained properly. Bird watching tower is damaged and entry is restricted. It's a calm place and only a good place for couples. And also 10 rs for entry for seeing such trees and some 🦇

Mangalavanam, a hidden gem in Kochi, is a serene urban oasis for nature lovers. The lush greenery and diverse bird species create a peaceful atmosphere, perfect for a leisurely stroll. The limited accessibility and maintenance issues are minor drawbacks in comparison to its natural beauty and calming environment. nb: Won't recommend for family. Spoiled by couples.

Mangalavanam Bird Sanctuary is a serene haven for bird enthusiasts and nature lovers. This urban oasis boasts diverse avian species and lush greenery. The sanctuary's mangrove ecosystem provides a unique habitat for both resident and migratory birds. It's an ideal spot for birdwatching and a peaceful escape from city life.
