The restaurant has live seafood preparation as its highlight. It's located on the side of NH at edapally making it very accessible. It has got enough parking space for the customers. The quality and taste of food is really good. But I'm quite unsatisfied with the quantity served for the price they charge. Service is very satisfying. The opening time is around 7.30 pm as we were the first customers at 7.45 pm. The place got crowded really fast though! In short, it's good food at high price.

Not very much impressed with the food i have to say, some are delicious and some are not so delicious at all. we bout Karimeen which had bad mud taste which really put me off. sea food biriyani is superb and thava fry also up to the mark, what really put me off is the price its so over priced for sure 100g karimeen is around 200rs, a pineapple juice will cost you 150rs, pricing must be looked as it really puts people off. customer service is absolutely brilliant i have to say. 3 stars partially recommended

If you are a seafood lover and want to try something different, then this is the place. Not only seafood but also a variety of beef, mutton, chicken is also available. We ordered mud crab roast, egg appam, fried rice and chilli chicken which tasted okay. Quantity wise worth the money. Recommended : karruveppila fish (starters) Very calm and relaxing ambiance. Best visit time after 7pm. The washrooms are very clean and well maintained. Free parking space available. Overall a nice experience.

Super-good interiors is the USP of this restaurant. Interiors are designed is designed as the perfect fit for a seafood restaurant. The place has high variety of seafood dishes. We tried ‘LGP Squid’, ‘Onakkachemmeen Rice’ and Thava Fish Fry. The portion of starter is comparatively less. Place has good parking facility.

Delicious 😋😋😋😋. 😊 Dine in with cousins on 02 May 2022. Ordered Cheenavala thali, chicken biriyani, fish fry, grilled kingfish, butterscotch icecream and Fry iceream. All items are delicious. nobody have any negative comments. 😊 You can visit there with your babys also no worries bcoz they have and they will provide baby sleeping cradle. They will arrange the dining table as per our choice, i mean compared to our headcounts. So if your a bunch of people they will attached some table together and we can enjoy the meal together. (For this case we need to wait some time near to entrance area inside the restaurant, have Sofa's and chairs available). 😊 Neat and tidy restaurant and staffs are very polite and friendly. 😑 Only onething i found. There menu booklet is not good bcoz first of all its a poor quality photostat also the letters are small and in italics. Some portions cannot read bcoz of the quality of photostat. I saw Most of the peoples are suffering to read the menu. So its a humble rqst from my side that, please renew the menu booklet.

Good food, but highly expensive considering the quantity, taste, and ambience. For the price paid, service is just average. One Karimeen costs 800 Rs., One coconut pudding costed 240, and one brownie another 240. This pricing is of a 5 star hotel and the quantity offered is way below the cost. Definitely not worth the money spent. Their Biriyani items are tasty, again, overpriced. Look at the menu I am adding and you could get an idea. Another let down was I ordered egg fried rice and they brought me veg fried rice. When I highlighted this, they just added scrambled egg on it and brought back. The premium pricing is not justified in any ways here.

We tried their fish meal for a weekend lunch. Needless to say, weekends are pretty crowded and you can expect a 30-40 min wait time for a table. While you are waiting you may walk up to the fish counter and choose the fish of your liking. They will prep it in a way you would like. The meal thali is decent with a variety of fish gravy and vegetable items. Staff are helpful and they have ample parking outside.

Cheenavala thalli is good . Suggest to have a bit more fish dishes in the thalli. We took tava fry fish and deep fry fish both were well cooked and tasted great. Cuernavaca special masala for tava fry was great. Erachi kappa and prawn kappa was very nice too. Only draw back during visit was food ordered was missed to add by service staff.

Gooood tasting food. And an industrial ambience to go with it. If you're a non-veggie, you'll line the fact that you can choose your live seafood which will then be cooked for you as per your request. Being vegetarian, i opted for a Malabar Parrotta, Paneer Chilly and Mix Veg Curry. The Parrottas were made very delicately and the curry gravy just made it melt. Pin this on your radar for a visit and I'm sure you'll not be disappointed.

Many sea/Fresh water fish varieties . Did not have Lobster during my lasr visit. When you enter you will feel like entering a fish market, probably because of all the fish/ prawns/crabs on ice display, but your nose will soon adjust to that. Seafood platter is a good choice as a couple. Staffs are friendly and helpful. Place is a bit expensive. If all the fish they bring are freshly made as they claim then its good. They offer Birthday special dining which i saw during my last visit.

Cheenavala, is a really good restaurant, with focus on seafood. Situated on the Edappally Palarivattam bypass closer to the Edappally end, entry thru the service lane. Ample car parking space available. Good ambience. Good service too. Food was really good. We had a sea food biriyani, a Cheenavala thaali meals and Seer fish tawa grill. Recommendable fine dinning place for seafood.

Good restaurant.. Nice ambience.. Neat and clean.. Friendly service.. Tasty food.. 👍😊 But too expensive😒 And looks like it will take long time to get the ordered item. Recently (23/09/2021) I ordered a dish and had to wait for about 45 minutes. Don't know whether this was due to a lack of staff during the pandemic. They said they would start preparing the dish only after ordering. In a way its good, we can eat it hot. But that waiting was terribly long and tedium🥵. (08 Nov 2021)

Gem of a theme restaurant in Edapally. We went there on a Sunday for lunch. The ambience and service is top class. We were seated quickly, orders taken promptly and the person patiently explained the dishes to us. The seafood dishes were great and so was the thali. The place was buzzing by the time we finished. Great spot for seafood. Prices are at reasonable and par for a restaurant such as this. Highly recommended.

A perfect place for fish lovers, huge variety of fishes are available. Restraunt is mostly crowded despite of huge parking space and huge dining area. Mostly fresh fishes are served at the restraunt. Bit pricy and waiting time will be more based upon the recipes we choose. Washroom needs a bit more expansion considering the crowd.

We were lucky to be here at 8pm and hence didn't find trouble with landing a table. Ordered several dishes and all were nice. The fish made with raw mango curry could have been better. Had been hearing so much from other reviewers that the place used to be amazing back when it started and not anymore. Maybe, if the food that I've had here wasn't the best version of itself, then i can only assume that things used to be even better back in the days. But, we people must also realise that nothing is permanent on this planet and that everything can change, both good and bad. We should give everything, more chances to get them back on track. Like a parent would, to their every child. And, I also feel that they are almost back to how they were. This place may have just gone through a wave. Like do every sine wave have it's ups and downs. I personally enjoyed their food.

Disappointed !! This review is completely based on our experience. We thought of visiting this restaurant seeing the good reviews, but badly disappointed. Visited on new year day evening for dinner, as expected, rush was there. But still we waited and got a table. For fish grill, we chose from the live fish counter and gave our order. Again waited for 20-25 minutes. But finally we got our “tawa fish grill” served COLD. It was prepared and kept inside the kitchen without serving, i guess, or they prepare and keep in a bulk and reheat on orders. I dnt knw what happened. But after charging a big amount for tawa fish, i wonder, how can they serve it cold. After complaining, they reheated and gave. But the disappointment already took away our eagerness to have it. Other orders like fish mappas curry and bread items were good. Dragon chicken starter was charged 340-350 but the quantity was too less compared with the price. Overall, as this place claims to serve good seafood items, they should have taken care of serving it fresh and right away from the flame. No one wants to have overpriced cold food, that too after so much waiting time.

One of the best places for seafood. Had meen moilee, pomfret(catch of the day) tawa fry in cheenavala signature marinade Kerala and wheat parota. All were really good. Would definitely recommend the meen moilee, it was absolutely delicious 😋. Had to wait for around 10 minutes on a Saturday afternoon to get our table as we were walk-in. The ambience was very pleasant. The restaurant theme was all seafood related and tastefully done. Highly recommended for seafood in Kochi.

A very popular seafood restaurant in kochi. It is located close to Lulu mall near the metro stop. The restaurant is quite crowded especially during weekends. The thali which is unlimited is a great option. Tried the fish curry thali and Cheenawala thali where they gave unlimited rice and fish 👌🏼 Good value for money. The flavours are quite authentic too. For seafood lovers, they have an option to choose your fish and order catch of the day as well. Recommended

The restaurant is clean and nice interior, but the food was not at all good. We tried seafood clear soup (1 Star)- it was just a salted hot water, Prawn Fry(1 Star)- Deep oil fried along with onion no taste at all and was too oily and price was very high for the quantity and size of prawns served, non Veg Thali(1 star) not at all good. The only item that I liked was Quid Fry, which was good(4Star). Experience was not good, may be had high expectation on the food front from this restaurant.

Sorry to say that this restaurant didn't meet our expectation. Especially if we compare the price we pays. We had seafood platter and it cost Rs 2100 including GST. It includes crab, prawns, slices of fish fry, meen peera and squid. But none of them have authentic taste. Service is also below average. Only positives are ambience and parking.

Stellar ambience & Professional wait staff✨️. The staff was kind enough to pull up a chair just so that my wife could seat her bags🙏🏻 (without even being asked). We were offered a welcome drink (probably mango flavored tang). There's an option of ordering from their menu or heading to the fresh catch area and select fishes that are available there to be cooked in various methods (fry, tawa grill, etc.) We headed to the fresh catch and chose the Karimeen 🐟(Pearl Spot) & Prawn🦐. All the available catch is sold per 100gm i.e roughly Rs. 200 rs for 100 gms (for karimeen) , so a fairly decent sized 500gm fish can cost around Rs. 1000. So goes the story for prawns which is around INR 300 per 100 gms (around 6 prawns can weigh around 200 gms i.e Rs. 600). Once you head over to the fresh catch area and select the fish, it's weighed & thereby we are to choose from 4 masala mixes (arabian, kerala chilly, kanthari & one more) to prepare the selected fish, NO Customization 😒 request to the spice levels were allowed as the person who weighed the fish clearly stated that the masalas are premixed (we like spicy food so wanted to request to make it extra spicy). Prawns were ordered to be tawa grilled in kerala red chilly masala mix and Karimeen Pollichathu ofcourse. We ordered a seafood biriyani, wheat paratha and egg appam to go with. The prawns were tough, overcooked beyond retribution for the lost souls of the prawns👎. This came paired with a mayo & coleslaw of sorts. The karimeen was decent. The seafood biriyani (mix of squid, small prawns, bits of fish etc) ended up being the most liked dish. One of those experiences that left us exceedingly satisfied with the decor & wait staff while unfortunately equally disheartened by the food. The food doesn't meet the expectation set by the ambience or the service. Other restaurant like Nawras or Arippa were fairly better in my opinion. Out of 5 stars I'd rate the dishes as : Prawns Tawa Grill - ⭐️ Karimeen Pollichathu - ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Seafood Biriyani - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Bill ended up @ 2,200 with drinks (the lemon mint krusher was so sweet we didn't have to order dessert 😶) PS : Seating was not a problem, plenty available at 8.30pm on a Saturday night.

A seafood themed restaurant with cozy interiors and ample parking space Being sunday being crowded and not difficult enough to get a seat we joined them for lunch Ordered cheenavala thali meals, rice pathiri, kerala parotta, American chopsy chicken and angamali raw mango meen curry To ge honest the thali was not upto the mark for the variety and cost factor too Others tasted good an nice Food on an expensive side, they do have a live counter with fish displayed for barbeque or pan fry Once a while can be there Finally had lemon soda, fried icecream with fruits and jar cake tiramisu(that much not good) Overall ok fine with neatly maintained wash rooms too

Though I have known Cheenavala for long, never tried that until last Sunday. Being a fish lover, we decided to be there for my birthday lunch. First of all, if it's a weekend, be there by around 12:30, or else be ready to wait for at least 30 minutes as they don't take table reservations. We reached there around 01:30 pm but got seated only by 02:00 pm. The good thing is that they have very spacious dine in to accommodate a large crowd. Second, if you are in queue, do ask for the menu and choose your dishes so that you can save time. Furthermore, if you would like to check a live fish, choose the fish and the masala while you are waiting for the table. Being a fish lover, I straight away checked the fish counter, and the guy suggested 'Kalanji' with the special cheenavala signature masala (the one they suggest). Along with that, we ordered a 'Neymeen' tawa fry, and 'Honey glazed squid ring', and the main course was 'Cheenavala thaali'. 'Honey glazed squid ring' was good. Thaali meals (kerala brown boiled rice) was ok, but the fish curry was bad. The top performer was obviously 'Kalanji tawa grill'. It was really good and I suggest having it with hot kerala porotta and not the meals. The 'Neymeen' tawa fry was below average as the masala was not properly into the fish. Finally, to try, we ordered a fried ice cream. As I was having it for the first time, I had some expectations, but it didn't match that. You will find this a little expensive as the check amounted to Rs. 3.5k for the aforesaid lunch menu 😉 Anyway, if you are a fish lover, 'Cheenavala' is a restaurant which you can try at least once for sure. Dedicated parking space is available for all the tables, but as I said, if you are in queue, you may have to wait to park your car. Accepts all mode of payment.

Ambience is good. Appreciate the expertise of the staff. There were atleast 5 to 6 groups waiting. When they said 20 mins, I didn't believe. But in 15 he gave us a table, that too without a written list. The food is good in taste but too pricey. If their highlight is the live fish counter, it should have been more attractively priced to attract more orders. In kochi fish cannot be charged 3 times the market rate. Batter fried squid was more batter and less of squid. Seafood biryani was really great. Kappa was good and overpriced for the ambience

Try this place atleast once, if you are a seafood lover. They do serve other non veg items as well. Vegetarian choice is less. The server gave a short description of the dishes on menu and invited us to the fresh fish counter to choose the fish of our liking. Though I can't recollect the names of the dishes, the one with kanthari chilly koottu was more delicious. Seafood platter was another dish that we tried and found good. Excellent staff, great service. The wash room was maintained neat and clean. Ample parking space available.

Awesome place to go if you like fish! The variety, quality & the taste of the food is simply awesome! Spotlessly clean washrooms (the possible first indicator of hygiene inside the kitchen) the see through kitchen all assure you of hygienically prepared food. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal & highly recommend this restaurant. The restaurant is spacious and has a simple yet elegant ambience. Try the Chatti meen curry, out of the ordinary! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Kudos to the owners!

The seafood is reasonably fresh. The crabs were still alive when we selected them. The spices used on the fish, prawns and crabs was moderate and balance and it allowed the taste of the seafood to shine. It is by no means cheap, so do keep an eye on the bill when you make your selections from the fridge.

Fantastic food. This place is supposed to be best for seafood... I loved the egg appam and beef fry! Do try the Tender coconut pudding - best I have tried.

  • 3/5 Anthony F. 3 years ago on Google
Let's start of by how welcoming the staff is and how relatively well they've managed to keep the interiors clean and tidy. You're instantly greeted with a massive parking lot - which by itself takes away a lot of parking stress; and the aroma of seafood being cooked in the kitchen. Since this is a restaurant review, more weightage is given for food and it's honestly above average. The seafood Biriyani I had was again - above average and lacked personality. The flavour profiles were similar to those of other restaurants within the city. The sides seemed to be made without any dedication either. However, the seafood by itself was cooked decently and the marination for which is good too.

Very spacious well maintained restaurant. Highly recommended if you're looking for clean and neat place for your family dinning ,lunch or whatever . Food is consistently good, Staffs are well behaved. This Restaurant is a go to place for see food in Ernakulam city . Ample car parking space too. one of the very few Eateries that follow covid protocols ..

We only tried Prawns Biriyani, Koonthal roast and Cheenavala thali meals. Prawns Biriyani and Thali meals were pretty ok. Nothing mouthwatering but tasty enough to sate your hunger. Koonthal roast was delicious. Overall, it was nice!!

Really good local delicacies. Limited items due to the limited opening in this pandemic. Taste is authentic. Seafood is fresh and well prepared. Safety norms are maintained. Adequate parking. Slightly expensive cost for 2 was about 1300/-

They have some really good fish biryani and fish thali , in a really nice seafood themed ambience . The prawns fry and the fried ice cream are also nice . They’re quite reasonably priced for the freshness , quality and taste of the food offered , although I think the fish chosen from the live counter maybe costlier ( I haven’t tried it yet ). Also , it’s better to get there early on weekends or you’ll have to wait for a seat.
