A two hour drive from Kochi, this gem is situated in the Mukundapuram Taluk of Thrissur district. The dam provides a picturesque picnic location and is frequented by locals and foreigners alike. Setup in 1984, the Chimmini Wildlife Sanctuary lies contiguous with the Peechi-Vazhani Sanctuary.. 😊🙏💯👌

The visit was simply outstanding. Dam is now open for tourists finally... You take your own vehicle which will cost Rs 100 for parking. Adults are charges 20 rs and free entry for kids. You can walk through the gallery which is around half kilometre walk but one cannot go directly on top from where the water is releases. That section is closed for security reasons... However you can see it from the front side which had amazing views. Watch my pics so you will get an idea. Do like my review and comments as it encourages people like us to post more on Google maps. Overall a super family trip Cheers

Recently my cousins and I went on a trip. Nice place to hang around. We went at noon, so it was hot but tolerable. The entry gate to the dam was locked on both sides; I don't know the reason. And the shutters weren't open. But the dam view was spectacular. A car can drive up to the entrance gate, from where it is a walkable distance to this amazing view. We spent quite a while here. The water on the banks of the reservoir was polluted. At the other entry gate, kuttavanchi was provided. 400 for a group of four persons. Public toilets, shops, and snack bars are available. The Chimmony Dam is inside the wildlife sanctuary. The entry fee is 20/- per person and 100/- per car. Cycling and trekking activities are available from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The place will be closed at 5:00 p.m. And staffs are also available on day time. I made a call to the sanctuary before the visit, and they gave me all the information. We saw deer, peacocks, and some rare butterflies.

It's a small dam. Its just the natural beauty to see. There is a boating facility near the dam, which is the main attraction. Except the boating you can get some photos in the dam catchment area. There are some seats so that you can sit and enjoy. You can also visit peechi dam which is just 25-30km far from here.

Beautiful place and not so crowded.. Around 25 km ride from Highway and the roads are in good condition. There are no restaurants outside though , would be better to carry some. I’m not sure ,if there is any cafeteria inside..

It's a beautiful tourist place to visit. One can pay a visit either alone or with family and friends. The sight is iconic. The awesome panorama of the spot is embellished with beautiful flowers and trees. One can see centuries old trees here with metres and metres of width. These tall trees help the tourists to escape from the horrible sun above their head. The blue water and the green meadows are clubbed together to present the visitors an eye-catching scene at the dam spot. This spot is nothing but a small summer bank where one can spend his leisure hours walking and laying at the green bank.

Its wonderful place to spend your evening with friends and family. There are some activities that you can try like trekking cycling boating etc. The trekking should be booked at entrance and booking cycling is inside. The trekking cost around 200-300 and same for the cycling. The trekking is a total 3 hour trip to nearby water fall. They also informed there won't be much water at summer. The beauty of the DAM ,reservoir and the view of forest is the main attraction. You should visit both Earthen Dam and Masonry dam. Actually there is road to near masonry dam So you don't have to walk from Earthen dam. Also keep drinking water with you or buy from the Is inside office as there is no much shops around dam. I have posted some photos of masonry dam.

Chimmony wild life sanctuary offrrs 3 km of trekking(1:5 hr walking). They charges Per head 200 and they provide one guide with us.. And the forest contains tiger and elephants and varieties of birds. The suggested time to visit is early in the morning, because the chances to see wild animals is higher in the morning.. trekking ends at the shore of dam so we also can walk through the dam area.. And good place to visit 1.5 hr travelling from thrissur town.. Another places to visit nearer to sanctuary is chokkaña and marottichaal..

Dam and it's surroundings are nice. There is a Small Hydroelectric project (25MW) run by KSEB. Forest and Irrigation Inspection bungalows are available for stay, inside the sanctuary.

Chimmini dam boating is a must try activity if you are in or around Thrissur. It costs 400rs for a boat, 4 people can travel for 20min. Dont visit when it is raining. The scenery surrounding the dam is ultimate.. 💚 It was one of the best Coracle boat ride i had in my life.. They also provide forest trekking but you need to prebook. Next time i want to try that ✌️

I visited this place on 15/04/2022, it's a very beautiful and underrated tourist destination with lots of potential. There are lots of scenic landscapes along the route to this place. The water level in the dam wasn't very high due to the summer climate but you could literally go down to the river banks and sit there and relax, or even go for a turtle boat ride... speaking of boat rides, I guess the services can be improved and secondly there needs to be additional refreshments in the local canteen coz the only stuff available at the current store are water, tea, coffee, ice-cream etc (good to bring snacks with you when coming but also ensure not to litter the place). When you travel there, you will first come across the Chimmini wildlife sanctuary gate before reaching the dam, as they seem to be interconnected . The place is not that far from the Thrissur city, but reaching here can be a bit tricky unless if you're on Google maps (the sign boards along the road aren't very clear and the one other con about this place was that the entry fee charged is a tad higher than usual).

I recently visited Chimmini Dam and was thoroughly impressed by the area's beauty. The dam itself is a picturesque sight, with its clear waters and surrounding greenery. The surrounding forests are also a joy to explore, offering a chance to see a variety of wildlife, including elephants. Overall, I would highly recommend a visit to Chimmini Dam for anyone looking to experience the natural beauty of the area. Whether you are interested in hiking, birdwatching, or simply taking in the views, Chimmini Dam is a must-see destination. The entry charges to the dam are 20Rs per person and 50Rs per bike. We will only get BSNL signal. Once you reach the dam, you may get free wifi based on the electricity. The time I visited, there was no power, so you couldn't use Google Pay there to pay for activities. At the entrance, you have to pay with cash only.

We didn't expect much before going to this place. NB- there is entry ticket fare, which will differ according to no. of person, age, vehicle, camera. But with that cost i guess its not that much worth to explore but that area this is one of top attraction and not much of other place to explore. If its free or less more cheaper than recent price, it would been worth to spend time

The place needs to be developed as a tourist spot. There is no dedicated parking facility, no toilets or hotels. Just a small cafeteria where you can get a coffee or water bottle. The place is serene , not at all crowded , and be sure to start back from the place by at least 5.30 pm as a long distance is only forests on both sides. Entry will be restricted after 6 pm.

Chimmini Wildlife Sanctuary required more development to become a tourist spot. There is no hotels, toilets and dedicated shops. A small cafeteria where you can get coffee, tea, water bottle, and a few snacks packet. As we got the information from the check-post guides, they have more packages for stay and trekking to see the wild animals which required booking through online or via phone.

Chimminy dam is just a few kms away from trichur and it has one of the best entertainment to offer. The scenic beauty around is undescribable. A package tour by the Kerala tourism devp corpn despite the price is really something u will nurture for a life time. Backed by a group of helpers you are taken into the interior of chimminy dam which is about 45mts ride by motor boat. You are placed plumb in the heart of the forest to spend a night in the dense jungle in a place with tents and a moat around to ward off against wild animal attack. Though scary it is an experience and adventure u will remember for ever. In the candle lit environment in the jungle u get the helpers, who also second as night watchmen, to cook you the food of your choice as you get to choose the food and provisionsyou wish to carry (at your own cost) along for dinner n bfast and lunch the next day.. It's fun making merry in the midst of the jungle hearing the wild and at times a little scary, sounds of all that you can get to hear in a jungle.

they are saying its a Wildlife Sanctuary, but I didn't see any wild animal during my last visit, There is boards on the way mentioning crossing Elephants paths, May be in nights. Lot of rubber tree plantations on both sides of the drive way You can see deforestation process on one side, May be because of forest fire. Also there is small streams on both sides, where we can refresh, and even bath. Also they are children safe. In the entry, there is fees both for the vehicle and the person. It's about one half kilometres to ride to reach the dam. There is a walkway which is not a tarred road on the top of dam. We can reach resorvoir's bay on the left side which is the area only permitted. While descending on the left, and there is a bridge by which we can see the water outlets. That's all, the Chimmini wildlife.

If you want to spent some time with nature,I would suggest this place. The route to sanctuary is calm and it will make your mind happy. Since it is a forest area the signals are very weak. The trekking to the area can be by foot or by vehicle. Almost 2 to 3 hours of trekking by foot. There are two ways for trekking. One is easy and other is little trekky. There are room or dormitory availability; There is a waterfall inside the sanctuary, where if you need can take bath... The chance of seeing wild animals is very rare. If you want to visit the sanctuary and need room, better to confirm with office, beforeplanning for the trip. There is a small tea and snack shop there. Also some forest products are available there. And there is also a dam. If love to walk with your loved ones there a long road with less number of vehicles. Private bus is also available to the dam and sanctuary. If you are taking parcel food then you can able to spend your daytime fully here. If you are nature lover am sure that you will love this place once you visit.

Went for treking through forest. We were a group of 4 along with forest guide Mr.Velayudhan. We were fortunate to spot herd of elephants while treking. Mr.velayudhan helped us to make our treking memorable one by moving forward according to our interest and relaxed pace. Treking was for almost 4 hours. After that we had kotta vanchi ride. Overall trip was awesome. One of the best places in Thrissur for treking through forest. Charge for treking was Rs.200 per person and for kotta vanchi ride Rs.400 for group of 4 person's.

The Chimmini Wildlife Sanctuary is located in Mukundapuram Taluk in Thrissur district is a two hour drive from Kochi.  With its dense forests, a variety of birds and butterflies, and innumerable trekking trails, this is a sanctuary that provides a heady experience for nature enthusiasts. The sanctuary is contiguous with the Peechi-Vazhani sanctuary. Visitors can view elephants, sambars, gaurs, Malabar squirrels and sloth bears in the sanctuary. The Forest Department regularly conducts trekking expeditions and rafting programmes in the area.

Very nice location to spend a day with family and friends. Have seen lots of wild elephants in nearby forest area. It was really surprising as we spend many time travelling through wayanad, malakkappaara route to see elephants, but here we seen approx 20 pax. Try to reach there before 3-3:30

Beautiful place to relax from urban life.. Attractive nature beauty is also an attraction..we can feel very close to nature..... One of the best tourist place in thrissur district

  • 5/5 Vibin B. 3 years ago on Google
The place has its own beauty. The way to the dam is more satisfying where we can find elephants on both sides of road. There are more hidden spots (allu waterfalls;ismail waterfall's. An old bridge calle thookupalam etc...) along the road which is only known to natives.

The counter for entry to the Chimmony wildlife sanctuary opens by 8.30 am. Rs.20 for a person and 100/- for car. There is a parking space as you reach the Chimmony dam. It is a good experience to walk the length of the dam, which is an earthen dam, and offers very good scenic beauty. If you would like to take a trek in the forest of around 2 hours, tell them at the counter itself and guides will be assigned to you.

An unexplored beauty ❤️❤️❤️!!!! Chimmini Dam gives us different impressions in different seasons. A must watch place in Thrissur District, Kerala.

  • 4/5 Vishal U. 2 years ago on Google
The road to Chimmini dam is the main thing I liked here. There comes a road where a road goes through the middle of a forest where both the sides were sealed with electric fence. This restricts elephants from crossing the road. This is a great site to find elephants crossing with their family. The time we visited this place, shopkeepers told that on that day, there were a group of 25 elephants roaming on the roads. But unfortunately we couldnt find them.

The natural ambience and fresh air makes everyone feel something from their inner heart. Even though there is not ao much to see here, the place and its calmness is the main cause for the visitors to come again and again. Its like a quite natural beauty 🤩

  • 3/5 Thomas J. 2 years ago on Google
It is good place for a half day trip...It would have been a much better place, if there is a park for the kids, so the families also can spend some time there. However, on the way we could see some elephants at the elephant sighting spot and it was a good experience.

  • 4/5 Anand S. 2 years ago on Google
Good place to spend an evening with family. Not many options for food or beverages around, cafe at the dam serves biscuits, ice cream, coffee etc. It's a plastic free zone, hence better not to carry disposables. Boating in the lake and bicycle rentals available.
