Fantastic, relaxing, welcoming, extremely helpful. Those are the words I would use to describe Emerald Isle and its wonderful proprietors. The food was incredible, they were able to set up any activities I wanted and all the staff were very sweet and lovely people. GO SUPPORT THEM! Only suggestion for the Venice rooms that would make them even better would be to put screens in all windows and doors so you can open them and sleep with the fan on. I would have much preferred to listen to that symphony of frogs outside than the air conditioner.

An amazing magical place. Start with canoe ride to the house, very warm welcome ,fantastic room with lovely outside spaces including shower room. The gardens are fabulous and lying in the hammocks with a gentle breeze watching all the birds is very special. Cycling to explore the island was great and very interesting and the massage was wonderful. Evening canoe ride to watch the sunset over the paddy fields and through the little backwaters is a must. Highly recommend as everyone couldn't have been more kind and so friendly.

The bungalow is a 150 years old, very well maintained property. Rooms are excellent with big bathroom...only disadvantage is that they are open air and at night there are too many mosquito 🦟🦗. Must carry odomos cream or any repellent. The rooms have good night mosquito repellent. The facility is very beautiful and very well maintained. Owner - Mr. Vijo is a very good and helpful person. Location is excellent as it is right in front of water and the back side rooms are almost touching the stream of water. The place is Lush green with a beautiful garden. My experience says..it's worth a visit. All the best. Regards. Dushyant Katkade

I think this was the nicest place we stayed on our two week trip to Kerala! The place is absolutely beautiful located on a backwater with a rice paddy behind it and lovely gardens. The room was lovely and very comfortable. The food was really delicious and excellent value. Vijo and Tom were really helpful and organised a yoga class and massage for us both of which were great and there also bikes to borrow for a ride along the waters. Would highly recommend !

A gem in the heart of Kerala. This 150 year old home full of history located in nature is the perfect place to discover and enjoy the backwaters of Allepi. Run by two brothers, the hosts are incredibly kind and informative. Fun activities are offered such as cooking, boating, yoga and spa treatments. Rooms are comfortable with AC and full amenities (loved the outside shower). Food is delicious, home cooked meals with products from the garden. Couldn’t be more pleased with our experience, recommended if your looking for a special moment with family or friends.

We were here in March 2022 end and sorry for the delayed review. Emerald Isle, a very beautiful heritage place it is. I wish we stayed there for another day at least. Very friendly hosts, very fresh, tasty breakfast & dinner we had. We started a little late from Thekkady and with the traffic, reached here late afternoon and Vinod, the owner booked a shikra for us; nice little slow boat ride it was and kids liked it! Very charming, ancestral home now converted into a heritage homestay; reaching the place is little tricky but once you are there, very impressive; 2 small ponds, rice fields in the backyard; manimala river in the front side with lots of house boats, shikras and other local activities. The outdoor bathroom was crazy but my dear son liked bathing under the moon and so did we all later. We booked only the breakfast and dinner! The food tasted so fresh and it was totally customized for us; they were very accommodating with all our requests. The place is very well maintained and I do recommend to stay here and enjoy the place. Do not forget to add your pics/review so it is helpful for others! Edit - Tusli is the cook and he is excellent at his work!!

Friendly hosts, quiet rooms, breakfast and dinner with wide variety of freshly prepared local dishes, AC/WC/freshwater shower, lush garden with lots of tropical plants and 2 ponds next to rice field. Direct access to Manimala river (safe to swim). Friendly people and neighbours all around, lots of kids, food stall and cloth stall only some 100 m away, strong and lively christian community, lots of possibilities to go for short or longer strolls. go visit !!!

Beautifully located in the midst of the backwaters, very clean and spacious rooms, a garden to let the soul refresh and the mind wander. Great place to discover the real backwaters walking or cycling, away from the crowd of houseboats. Staff is very helpful, bikes available. Our great time out after a week of travels in Kerala & Tamil Nadu.

Lovely eco-friendly home stay by the river. Friendly owners & staff. Quite a huge area with fish ponds, padi fields & courtyard garden. Nicely designed rooms with an outdoor bathroom. Lots of mosquitoes though which was troubling. Great to have a relaxing break. Dinner & breakfast were good too. Made fresh & homely. Overall we loved our stay.

Emerald Isle exceeded our expectations by a country mile. The rooms are quaint, clean, and comfortable. The staff is polite and courteous. Shout out to Sam, he was great. The food was scrumptious. The outdoor bathrooms take a little getting used to, but once you do they’re delightful. The location and house are excellent. We had a great time there. Highly recommend.

Fabulous home-stay run by Vinod and his team. Warm and welcoming with fantastic food. We enjoyed walking, biking, yoga and massages during our short stay as well as a Shikara boat trip around the lakes and backwaters.

Our best stay in India! This is a beautiful, authentic heritage homestay with a lot of heart. It offers creative and contemporary room design within the structure of a heritage home which is over 150 years old and still owned by the same family. We loved our stay in the converted grain store! The hosts have over 20 years experience of welcoming guests to their home and it shows - the owner, Vinod, is clearly passionate about offering a really thoughtful Keralan homestay experience to his guests. The caretaker Sam, who also lives locally, is so kind and attentive and himself has been with the property for over 20 years and so has a wealth of knowledge about it. You really are getting the real heritage homestay experience here - not a corporate copy. The garden is truly a haven for relaxation - we spent a lot of time reading in hammocks that looked out over the paddy fields and we were astonished by the amount of bird life we saw. The garden is also full of fruit trees, spices and even a cacao tree! It was great to explore the local area on the bicycles provided - Vinod even helped us reach a remote toddy shop for a really authentic local experience - tasty (and spicy) seafood. The property feels remote and peaceful yet the hosts have an extensive list of activities they can arrange including boat tours, cooking classes and Ayurvedic treatments.

Such a wonderful stay! Vinod and the team are excellent hosts and made our time so special. The food is some of the best we had during our whole time in Kerala and everyone went above and beyond to ensure we had an unforgettable stay. I’ll be recommending to anyone coming to the area! The best!

We had the pleasure of staying with Vijo and his staff at Emerald Isle for 3 days/2 nights at the end of November. In short, the stay was fabulous! It was an amazing way to really experience the backwaters in a peaceful and tranquil setting. We stayed in the Lux Cottage and the room was very unique having been a coconut storage facility back when they operated as a family farm. It had a great history to it but with modern amenities, including an awesome outdoor shower, AC and fans. We also made the most of Vijo's activities: Highly recommend the Shikara Boat cruise (2hrs) with Robin, Cooking Class was fantastic and gave us a really good sense of the flavors and spices used in the area, Ayurvedic Massage was great and is also hosted on site in a special building by trained medical professionals, and finally biking in the area and having a personal garden tour of the resort. All were fantastic! The food served for breakfast, lunch and dinner was fantastic and very flavorful. It was tailored to our spice levels and the fussiness of our kids as well. If you are looking for a place to really experience the backwater, I would look no further than Emerald Isle. We truly had a great stay and Vijo, Sam and Bhima were all excellent hosts!

I had the best days of my vacation in this homestay. The property is so beautiful, clean and well maintained. The surroundings are peaceful and stunning. Don't miss to cycle around, meet friendly people and see how the locals live. The staff goes above and beyond to make your stay feel special and meet your needs, they are lovely people. Also great massages and backwater tours are organized. Last but not least, the food is fresh and delicious. Don't think twice, do yourself a favor and go there!

We stayed here two nights and it was great. Really nice people who took good care of us and made sure we were comfortable. At first the outdoor bathroom was a little weird, but it was an amazing experience and super cool! Beautiful and peaceful place to really get a true nature feel. Would definitely recommend to anyone trying to get away from the hustle of the city and experience true Kerala hospitality and culture.
