I visited this place with my friend in the month of February. You can opt for a bicycle while ticketing for the entrance. This place is really so beautiful, which is located in capital city of imphal. Everything was really good about this place the only reason why I am giving 2 star is because of the rudeness of the staffs and guards out there. They are so unfriendly and rude and moreover even if you're together they are not allowing you to walk together and always screams at you which is totally strange.

You definitely need time to visit this place. A visitors cart is also available on payment. But it's nice to walk around. After the Royal era, it was home to Assam regiment but during 2004 it was declared as a heritage place open to visitors.

Kangla Fort is situated at the Western bank of Imphal river at the heart of the capital city of Imphal, Manipur. It's one of the most important historical and archeological site of the state of Manipur. It's the testimony of the proud history of erstwhile Asiatic kingdom dating back to 33AD and also the quintessential symbol of the state's culture and heritage!

Very beautiful and popular tourist spot in Imphal. It remains closed on Monday. Other days it is open from 10am to 5pm. If you are in Manipur do visit the fort and the kangla museum. Museum closes at 4pm. There are 3 temples inside. You will get to know the history of Manipur from the fort and museum. Highly recommended.

Good place to visit if you are in Imphal and want to spend some time getting a glimpse of history and culture of Manipur. This for us lifted in the heart of the city. The fort campus is large. It is very beautiful and clean. There are temples and some monuments inside the fort. You can also take a stroll along the beautiful gardens located inside the fort. Visit this place if you want to spend a few quite and relaxing hours with your family.

One of the best place to explore in The Heart of Imphal as well as Manipur. This Fort Or Kangla Palace is the throne of Manipur as all the kingdoms of Manipur stayed inside the kangla fort, it also captured by British indian forces, Assam Regiment Or Rifles, one of the oldest regiment. The place is quite peaceful for walk and explore. I visited this place in December 2020 the weather and Air quality is awesome but in December it some times rainy so keep it mind. If you need any Help from me don't hesitate to contact me i will get u quick here is my Instagram id: miraj_md10 (Miraj Hossain) Places: Kangla Gate Hijagang Uttra Govindaji Temple Bindrabanchandra Temple Kangla Museum Nunjing Pokhri Slim's Cottage Rose Garden A cafe (Here you can get snacks, coffee and tea) This place spread across A wide land which has beautiful gardens, small ponds, Ruins also has A washroom inside.

This was the centrepiece of Manipur royal history until the Brits and Indians took it over. Only in 2004 it was returned to the people. I loved the large sign which states clearly for all to read: VVIP/ VIP/ Army / .......all have to pay the entrance fee. This is great. We should make it part of our culture. No freebies. The fort itself was disappointing. The palace is now a green mound, the various other buildings are under reconstruction or renovation. Field Marshal Slim’s cottage was locked. The two museums are small but good. I liked the one on the history of Kangla. The authorities now have a golf cart tour of the place so you dont have to walk. The guide / driver was excellent. I wish we could have spent more time in the museums but our guide was strict on moving on! Definitely a place to see, hopefully when the sound and light show starts and the buildings are open to the public-it will be more enjoyable.

Kangla is a sacred place for the state and has a history of being the seat of the state’s political power since 33 A.D. It is one of the most important tourist attraction in the state and holds special significance to state of Manipur and its people. The remains of this historic site bear the marks of the ancestral forefathers and the Kings who ruled Manipur till the British took over the state in 1891. The Kangla and its remains are living symbol of Manipur’s civilization. #copied You can come with your family, friends and your loved ones and enjoy the beautiful views of this fort. Also the place is very peacefull.

Kangla means "the prominent part of the dry land" in old Meetei. It was the traditional seat of the past Meetei rulers of Manipur.

Being one of the most important historic and archaeological sites, the Kangla Fort is located in the heart of the capital city of Manipur- Imphal. From the reign of the legendary God-king Nongda Lairen Pakhangba in 33 A.D. until Maharaj Kulachandra in 1891 A.D., the fort was the traditional seat of kingly governance. Once the home of the Manipuri royals, the fort was soon overrun by the British and later the Assam Rifles. The Meitei people believe Kangla Fort to be one of their holiest sites. They believe that the almighty Lord Pakhangba rules the kingdom of Manipur from beneath the Kangla fort.

Situated close to the banks of the Imphal River, the Kangla Fort or Kangla Palace is a symbol of Manipur's glory. The word ‘Kangla’ means dry land in Manipuri or Meetei language. Kangla was the ancient capital of Manipur and a number of Meetei monarchs have ruled the destination from this fort. On 20th November 2004, the Kangla Fort was handed over by the Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to the state government of Manipur. At present, the fort is open for visitors and is a major tourist attraction of the state. A visit to the Kangla Fort is a must for art lovers and historians as this ancient fort holds immense archaeological, religious and historical significance. Opening Closing Time 7 am to 5 pm

Most important Historical site of the state. Former Palace of almost all Manipuri rulers. But now a tourist attraction. At the heart of the Imphal area. Tourist focused rides available to explore the inside of the site. Walkable distance from Classic Hotel. Amidst chaos of Imphal market, worth sneeking into if you come to Manipur.

Kangla Fort is an absolute must-visit for anyone traveling to Imphal, Manipur. Steeped in history and culture, this magnificent fort offers a captivating experience that immerses you in the rich heritage of the region. As you step into the grounds of Kangla Fort, you can feel the weight of centuries past. The well-preserved ruins and structures serve as a testament to the fort's historical significance. Walking through the ancient gateways, you can almost envision the grandeur of the past rulers who once inhabited this majestic site. The fort boasts stunning architectural features that blend seamlessly with the natural beauty of the surroundings. The intricate carvings, ornate pillars, and traditional Manipuri motifs create a mesmerizing visual spectacle. The peaceful ambiance and serene atmosphere make it an ideal spot for introspection and quiet contemplation. Visitors can explore the various sections of the fort, each offering a unique glimpse into Manipur's history. The central courtyard, with its lush greenery and well-maintained gardens, provides a tranquil retreat from the bustling city. Once u will enter Imphal via senapati this fort will come to left side. Adjacent to Ima market. 10 rs ticket is required. Parking available . Can carry camera. Inside the fort there is cafe which is nice one. 2 temples are also present. Kangla (Imphal) was the ancient capital of pre-modern Manipur. The Palace of Kangla is an old palace at Imphal in the Manipur state of India. It was situated on both sides (western and eastern) of the bank of the Imphal River. But now it remains only on the western side of the bank. Only the ruins remain now. Kangla means "dry land" in old Meetei. It was the traditional seat of the past Meetei rulers of Manipur.

The ancient palace of Manipur. 'Kangla' means 'Dry Land'. It is believed to be the first place to reveal the floor or land when an ancient lake of Manipur started drying up. A remnant of the ancient lake is still present as the famous Loktak lake.

This would be one of the must visit places in Imphal & Manipur along with Ima market. It showcases meitei culture and its glory. Kangla Fort and the premises was part of the Royal family from ancient times. It is an ideal place to spend some time walking around, I did see more number of people from within Manipur than tourists. You have lots to walk and see within the campus, it could easily take close to 3hrs to cover them. You need to take tickets before you enter the premises. There are security guards throughout the premises. There is a small food court like facility to quench your hunger or thirst. There is only one entry and exit that you are allowed to enter and exit. The Fort is right near Ima market and you can easily walk up to the Fort. The roads in front of the main entrance is always busy and crowded. There are temples also within this campus, it's an ideal place to spend time with friends or family. Do keep in mind this fort and it's premises close quite early in the evening. Way before sunset. Please keep in mind not to litter the place as they have kept it really neat and tidy. The place is closed on Mondays.

Kangla fort is a beautiful place to know about the history of Manipur. Inside you can see many cottages and burial ground and mostly talks about the 1891 Anglo war between British invasion in Manipur. Besides that there are many valuable information about the history of Manipur. Kangla fort is surrounded by water body and before entering the Kangla gate you can see that. There is water dancing lights and museums inside the huge premises of kangla fort. There is also a restaurant inside and a rose garden and the area is quite clean. And there are many water bodies Inside the compound and full of Asian carp and other varieties of fishes. It was a great time spent here today and also want people to come and visit this wonderful place.
