Great place to stay for a short time but not the best place to stay for long.

  • 5Anurag B. 11 months ago
My experience at the Hornbill festival was memorable. The local Nagas are a very vibrant and welcoming bunch. Each tribes had their Morungs where we could go and learn about their culture and also order the specific food of the tribes. The music performances are held in the evening whilst the cultural shows happened during the daytime. Although, the festival does portray a very commercialised version of the Naga culture, but it's still worth it and a memorable experience.

Kisama is 12km from Kohima on the National Highway number 39. The gentle slope at the base of a steep mountain peak is the venue for the famed Hornbill Festival. The Heritage Villages is designed in the form of an ancient Naga village to give an authentic feel of a true Naga village and the experience of traveling back in time. After converting into Christians, Nagas have abandoned most of their tribal culture and traditions. It is only recently that they are trying to revive their past. The Hornbill festival was first initiated by the State Government. The festival has grown extremely in the span of a decade. Today the Hornbill Festival is one of the fastest growing festivals in India and attracts foreigners as well as Indians. It is now organized by the State Tourism and Art and Culture Departments every year from December 1 to December 7. The Heritage Village is designed in a traditional fashion to reflect the heritage of each tribe (Naga Village) alive. Morungs of different Naga tribes are build here. The Morung is a key institution of the Nagas, and also was the center of the social life of all the unmarried male members of the society. It is the place for the young boys where they learn about social practices and beliefs from their elders.Nagas lived in tribes and villages during their head hunting days and showed exceptional bonding values within one village or tribe. The Nagas lived in group and hunted in groups for the simple reason of survival. Some scholars have compared the administration of the Nagas to the autonomous Greek villages. Their only form of learning in an education deprived era (no written script, or proper form of education) was the Morung where they would come together and learn different kinds of skills, even head hunting. Each village has separate Morung’s for men and women. Please visit Kisama for an immersive "Naga culture" experience.

Kisama Heritage Village is the site where Hornbill festival is celebrated every year. This place opens a huge avenue for tourists visiting Nagaland to experience the rich and diverse culture of this place. The Hornbill festival is celebrated from 1st December to 10th December every year. This is an opportunity to be seized. One gets to experience every bit of the Naga culture which differs from tribe to tribe. Be it their food, music, dance, occupation, rice beer ask for anything under the sun pertaining to Nagaland, and you find out here. They also have a brilliant area for shopping traditional clothes and handicrafts. Throughout the day the arena is lit up with various performances both cultural as well as musical concerts. The agricultural department has also opened a huge section where you can buy indigenous plants, fruits and pulses. Food, music, dance, entertainment, rich history and culture; all of them together at one spot. What more can you ask for? A huge salute to Govt of Nagaland for organising this wonderful event.

Suchhh a beautiful place. I went during Hornbill festival and stayed there in a camp. The views from the village is marvellous with lots of cherry blossoms during the month of December. Even if you want to go other times of the year, you can, but the festivities won't be there. During Hornbill festival the whole air is different. And unfortunately during this year 2021 Hornbill festival that unfortunate event happened and the festival was cancelled. However, I repeat, the views and the whole village is amazing, totally on a different level!

Truly an international festival! Naga people need to curate our arts & storytelling! We are getting better every year. Need more informed, educated trained guides to facilitate the tourists within the premises, along with printed document of the event & visual display. Great job this year. Anyone wanting to know more about Nagaland must definitely visit the Festival.

The place , rooms, toilet, bathroom, dinning hall, etc., It's clean and everything's in order and the workers are polite, fresh and well dressed and really care for their customers. Besides the location is in the heart of the BOC, Kohima so everything is easy, to go hear and there. Market is just nearby, taxi stand is nearby. So, overall i gave a 4 star and i think it deserves it.

This place has a cultural village houses of 17 different tribes of Nagaland. Each model houses shows their way of living, tools they use for hunting, the dolls they play with. Although this place has a lot of cultural value, it is poorly maintained. I think this place will glow only during the hornbill festival

The hornbill festival of the nagas is celebrated here at kisama every year from 1-10th December. There are many artifacts and morungs for recreational, educational and also for business purposes. The place is good for exposure and also for learning the various types of tools used by the forefathers.

A great view of kohima is possible if you happen to be there on a bright day😉. What makes it special is the year long flowering beds that greets you as you make your way to the hotel. Private cabins are a must to try if you happen to be there. Also very much suitable for gatherings not exceeding 100+ at a single go. They usually serve good warm food with great service 😌. Heads off the the all round hygienic care they ensure.

Worst experience ever in a hotel so far. They falsely accused us for damaging the properties of the hotel room and asked for compensation. So shameful. Ultimately it was sorted out saying they mistook us for another and they apologised for it. Hope nobody has to face that in future.
