a
Banyan
tree
inside
the
temple
premises.
Festivals
and
celebrations:
1)
The
Main
festival
of
this
temple
is
Thaipoosam,
the
day
when
Goddess
Pookkuli
amman
destroyed
her
mortal
body
in
the
auspicious
fire
and
got
merged
with
the
supreme
power
as
immortal.
This
was
happened
thousand
years
ago,
people
say
that
this
was
happened
in
the
Rani
Mangammal's
Period.
On
that
day,
poojas
will
be
done
from
the
morning
itself
and
thousands
of
people
throng
to
the
temple.
Annathanam
will
be
provided
after
the
noon
pooja.
After
that
people
who
planned
to
carry
auspicious
milk
pots
(Paalkudam)
will
go
to
Vaigai
river
with
the
Archagars
and
the
temple
heads
to
make
it.
They
carry
those
milk
pots
from
the
river
to
the
temple.
Then
the
Pookkuli
(devotees
walk
on
the
fire-bed,
as
an
offering)function
will
be
conducted.
At
night,
the
milk
from
those
milk-pots
will
be
used
for
anointing
the
deities
and
finally
concluded
with
pooja.
2)
MahaSivaratri
festival
will
also
be
celebrated
by
anointing
Sonaiah
Swamy
and
by
offering
pooja.
3)
On
Thai
Amavasa
and
Aadi
Amavasa,
special
poojas
will
be
offered
to
Sonaiah
Swamy.
4)
AadiPooram
Bangle
Ceremony
will
also
be
conducted.
5)
Shardha
Navaratri
festival
will
be
celebrated
grandly
by
decorating
the
Pookkuli
Sakthi
Muthulakshmi
Amman
in
the
different
forms
of
Sakthi
on
those
9
days
and
cultural
events
like
Bajans,
Classical
dance,.....
will
also
be
conducted.

On
Puratasi
Saturdays,
special
poojas
will
be
offered
to
Neervanna
Perumal.
7)
On
Vaikunda
ekadashi,
Neervanna
Perumal
will
be
decorated
with
flowers
instead
of
Jewels.
8)
Other
than
these
days,
devotees
make
Sarkarai
Pongal
(Sweet
Pongal)
and
offer
pooja
to
the
deities
on
tuesdays
and
fridays.

On
Saturdays
and
Sundays,
People
come
and
offer
prayers
at
this
temple.
