We visited Chimp Eden on our way back to Johannesburg from Kruger NP. It was a nice visit and we got interesting facts on this special animal. The lady that did the tour was really helpful and gave us lots of information. There are two families of chimps which are basically in captivity, but they are well taken care of. Each of them has a different story, for some is quite sad. It was worthwhile and I would recommend it if you happen to be close to this area.

Serving as the only sanctuary for chimpanzees within South Africa, the place and experience is truly unique. The guides are informative and educate you on chimpanzees, including the lives and journeys of the chimpanzees there. Support them if you’re in the area!

So glad we visited the sanctuary in the way back from Kruger. The your around the sanctuary was very informative, and we learnt a lot about chimps in captivity and also in the wild. Zama was friendly and welcoming and happy to answer any questions any of the visitors had.

An absolute must! The guides are knowledgeable and the tour is a perfect length of time. The cafe has delicious coffee and food. Try the samosas! And the shop has some really great finds! These beautiful animals may not exist in the wild much longer.

Amazing to learn so much about these animals. Some horror stories of where these chimps came from but very happy to see them flourish at chimp eden. Will definitely visit again!

Worth a visit to learn about the chimps. Very educational; the people doing the tours are very knowledgeable. A little expensive for a 45 minute tour, seeing 2 enclosures and a total of about 10 chimps. The curio shop is unbelievably expensive. However, this is a non-profit organisation and during the tour you will realise why they're expensive. Visit if you like chimps and want to support.

So nice to learn and see the chimps. They are amazing animals. Very passionate personal. Sadly the place is a bit run down... But still worth it.

The JGI SA is a sanctuary for chimpanzees that can no longer be released into the wild. They are given a peaceful home after horrific abuse from humans. Guests enjoy a tour of 1-1.5 hours where the chimps' stories are shared, their personalities revealed, and behavior explained. Well worth the visit.

When you see the chimps going about their business, the personalities, the family dramas, dominance between the males, etc, you know that your money was well spent. Very entertaining for young and old. Would love to go more often, if only the price p/person was a little cheaper. But well worth the experience. 👌

The staff were friendly professionals doing absolutely wonderful work. The buildings and facilities seemed somewhat tired and in serious need of some TLC. As expected, all the chimpanzees were super- stars, but the baby and old man Jaoa stole our hearts.

To see the chimps and learn about their behaviours you need to do the tour. It's well worth it and great to see rescued chimps being well cared for. There's a shop and clean toilets. If the entrance gate is locked, phone them to open.

Chimp Eden is an absolutely phenomenal sanctuary. They all put their hearts into the care of these animals and no doubt they put them first. The enclosures are so well kept and the tour was amazing. I'd recommend anybody to go and learn and see first hand at the rehabilitation and sanctuary for the chimps, as well as to support chimp eden to keep them going!

What a fantastic set up and experience! The guide was very knowledgeable, professional and approachable. Learning about the chimpanzees and their previous trauma was really humbling and brought home the need for more conservation efforts. It is so clear that this institution does what it can to both allow these beautiful creatures to experience some aspects of their lives within a sanctuary (E.g. in the wild they would be moving and building their nests everyday, in the sanctuary their nests are broken everyday and they need to build it again for when they sleep) whilst also caring for the chimpanzees medical needs. The gift shop offers a range of items to tickle everyone’s fancy and by supporting you are contributing towards more conservation efforts. This is a must when you visit Mpumalanga!

Bitter sweet experience. Sad to see how these chimps have started their lives, but so happy to see how they have been rehabbed and living a more "normal" life ❤️ Fantastic tour guide, knowledgable and good understanding and compassion for his chimps❤️

I would love to encourage everyone to visit them! They rely heavily on public donations and they are doing some truly incredible work!

Chimp Eden is absolutely great - our tour guide (Zama) was very knowledgeable and left no question unanswered. The history of each and every chimp makes you realise what wonderful work and effort is put into keeping the chimps in the sanctuary happy and healthy. I would encourage anyone wanting to learn and expand their knowledge to visit and support this wonderful cause!
