Best place to try authentic bengali thali in barrackpore... Too many varieties of maharaja thalis in their menu...

I had visited Barrackpore ' Kasturi ' in 2019 & things have changed drastically in 2023 ( visited 17.04.23 ). Food quality has dropped a bit as well as the availability. A lots of dishes are there in menu cards but not actually available. Services has also dropped , initially the service was good but the same picture repeats here. Few things are exceptional here but that is not enough to overcome these black spots.

This branch of Kasturi is situated near Barrackpore Railway station & Chiria more. It's situated at second floor. It has a seating capacity of 30-35 persons. Food is quality wise very good specially Kochupata chingri & Vetki paturi. Only lacuna of the restaurant is that service is very much slow here. When I have visited here Only one staff is took the order, served the order for all the tables!!!!!

Ambience is good with some cultural decoration and when you tell about the taste it is also good.

Parking is not available. Even bike parking is terrible. And food is good test and good service.

Good place to hop in if you are in a mood for some authentic Bengali cuisine, must try is their thalis and sheel-e-batta preparations. Generally stays moderately filled, packed during holidays, table for 4 and 6 members are available to accommodate family get-togethers well.

Vegeterian people never visit this restaurant. You can check on Zomato, they're selling non veg item in veg section , and before some days I visit with my family as I am vegetarian I ordered Veg Dishes , Dhoka Dalna , Paneer ( forget the name of the dish) , We've found chicken inside dhoka (pura dhoka de diya ) and Fish's bone in paneer dish .

Food was really good. Quantity is less compared to the price. Service really needs an improvement. There is shortage of staff. Overall food is good but management is not good. If you have time in your hands then one can go.

Ambience is nice and stuff behaviour is great and knowledgeable. I try today Maharaja Katla kaliya thali. All items are good. It is reasonable price thali & also quantity is sufficient for two people. I paid for this thali 627/-. The price is justified for two persons.

Quality and quantity of food is good. Main attraction is the ambience. U will love it. One small suggestion for the restaurant, if u can please add a piece of 'gondhraj lebu' while serve it will be the ultimate level of hospitality. BTW thanks for the great meal.

I have had extremely bad experience from Kasturi. I purchased 3 plates of doi ilish from Kasturi. Each plate is Rs 480, which was extremely pricey. But it was a birthday celebration for us and we still thought to go ahead with it, givn the number of positive reviews. We spent almost 1500 rupees for just 3 hilsa fishes. We brought it home and to our dismay, the pieces were very very small, the curry provided was little. We felt quite cheated. However, we still thought that maybe because hilsa is pricey and the preparation may be very delicious, that why they are charging the amount. The real shocker came when we started eating. It was clearly evident that the fishes were many days old. So much so, that bad smell were starting to come from the fishes. But as we spent 1500 rupees (1500 rupees is a big amount for a middle class) and were quite hungry, we still ate the fishes. After that, we called the manager of the restaurant regarding the incident and he was extremely rude to us. He humiliated us, calling we were plain liers and asked us to bring him the pieces of hilsa to prove our points. We have ever ever faced such humiliation and extremely rude customer service. We called the main brain manager, named Ranjit, and briefed u the entire incident. We wanted him to empathise with our situation. He said he would and asked us to contact him next day. When we called next day, somehow he also changed and behaved extremely rude with us and asked us to bring and show him the pieces. This kind of customer support from Ranjit - babu is what forced us to write a review here. While we know, our words will forever remain hidden among the so many positive reviews , but we still felt so bad, we thought we must share our experiences.

Not at all a good place. It's location is great and just adjascent to Barrackpore Railway station. But apart from this, there is no pros. Food quality is average, quantity is very very less.Ambience is okay but all the ACs don't work and it's stuffy inside. Coming to the service, really pathetic, If I could give negative stars, then that would have made more sense. They have no eagerness to take order, while trying to book order, whatever u want from printed menucard of the restaurant,they will say that's not available. So you have to ultimately compromise with whatever is available then. And then serving is extremely delayed and unorganised. Only merit point goes to the fact that it's secluded and not visited by lot of people, so if you want privacy and quality time, you can chose this place, otherwise please don't. Cost is not too less either and service is pathetic, so not worth going at all.

My wife ordered 2 pcs mutton Biriyani with an egg from Kasturi Barrackpore. It was a complete disappointment. Never had a sweet biriyani before. No point in mentioning 2 pcs as it is same as buying a single mutton biryani from dada boudi or else where. Uncooked mutton, soggy rice, overpowered flavour. Last time I will order biryani from here. Not recommending this to anyone. However other items are extraordinary as we are regular with traditional Bengali cuisine. Definitely recommending all to go for authentic traditional Bengali cuisine. A big fat "NO" for biriyani

For lunch, my wife and I went to Kasturi food plaza, barrackpore. I choose the Maharaja thali bhetki paturi. To be honest, the bhetki paturi was really delectable. The curd and mutton dish were not particularly appetising. The mutton was not soft in the least. The taste of the gravy was excellent. Dal had a lot of potential. It was a pleasant place to spend time with family and friends on the inside. As expected for the location, the prices of the dishes are reasonable.

One of the best restaurants in Barrackpore area. They serve authentic bengali cuisines with lip-smacking taste and pure quality. Ambience is also nice. Service is really good.

A definitely recommended restaurant for traditional Bengali cuisine lovers,nice ambience with cordial staff behaviour,pocket pinch approx 600 for two. Availability of only two items in dessert section seemed a little upsetting, hope they'll address this issue soon. Will visit this place again.

The quantity of every preparation was way too less than it was expected to be in a Maharaja thali according to price.. Not recommended at all. Price is way to high comprising with quantity.

Also they charged for containers. Better to give them online orders through swiggy and zomato when offers are available. Choose option also better in online

My Chingri/prawn malaikari had a bug in it. when I showed the 1 inch long bug (looked similar to cockroach), they said it's actually a piece of onion🤣 (even though it had legs) and took it inside. That was such a lame excuse that I thought they were joking with me. It was not a cockroach though, had no wings, but had the same shell, but no antenna. And they think people don't know what fried onion or a bug looks like. Forget an apology, they did not even recognise the mistake, kept saying it's not a bug. Should have taken a photo of it as proof, but they had already taken it inside. Due to this, they did offer a 10% discount card for when I visit next, even though I refused. Extremely disappointed. Don't trust those food vloggers. I've been there and did not like it. But that's my personal experience. Who knows, they might improve. **also the basin does not work, you have to wash hands with bottles. I'm afraid I cannot recommend this restaurant. Maybe try only the veg items.

I had arranged for a get together on the eve of my birthday at Kasturi restaurant, Barrackpore on 21/02/2021. The restaurant was cosy, clean and well maintained. The staffs were well behavee and cooperative. We had ordered 14 mini thaalis and some add ons. Among the add on, the fush finger was really very tasty for the fish they had provided with was too fresh and perfect. We all loved the fish fingers and the kasundi as well. Then we had ordered DOI RUI. I had previously told them to provide us with Kaatla instead of Rui, but they did not abide by it. They had served us Doi rui and what 17 of us felt was the fish was stale and the gravy of Doi Rui was too sweet like chutney. The fish was over-fried. The quality of the fish was not at all good. When we had told them immediately on the spot about the bad quality of the fish, they simply denied on the face. It was really disappointing. We had ordered Shukto which was too bitter in taste and not at all good. I would like to recommend them to improve the quality of Shukto or remove it from the menu itself. We had ordered Mutton kosha for 14people, and what we observed after being served with the dish was that, the quality of mutton was not same for everyone. Some pieces of mutton were too rubbery while others were soft. The mutton were being mixed with the previously cooked mutton and served. Everyone was not served with the fresh and soft mutton pieces equally. The other items like chutney, gulab jamun were appreciable. I would request Kasturi restaurant to improve the quality of Rui fish and mutton. Thank you.

Good food, place is safe from pandemic.

Here in barrackpore, it is the only resturant that serve bengali dishes, that famous in kolkata and Dhaka , no Chinese, tandoori or dishes like South Indian or Punjab are served. Restaurant owns a good atmosphere like "bangaliyana", suitable of family. Good accessibility of wash room. Though it needed maintenance. Staff s are well mannered, order are served as early as possible. Now coming to quality of food, it is mediocre. Reduce in quantity, but tasty. On the other hand popular dishes like বাসন্তী পোলাও doesn't overcome our expectations. Still I shall recommend this restaurant if you like fish items, it has huge collection of fish menus.

I've eaten at almost every outlet of Kasturi but Barrackpore is the worst. Taste is a big zero. I can't recall which Bengali dish swims in a gallon of oil. I tend to avoid kasturi's barrackpore outlet. Orderd shorshe illish today , sona mugh dal with peas. I just ate illish which has no taste at all. I'm a bengali can u understand the pain !!

Food quality is overall good not excellent but the resturant is not at all specious with scanty man power , they too were at a loss and running here and there either to serve you at the table or managing the takeaways . No seperate allotment was there . Didn't find the behaviour cordial as well . If it is just for the sake of having Bengali food , it has to be said ok as there are not many options for bengali food serving resturant at Barrackpore.

Had team lunch there. Food was good as usual. But air conditioner was not running due to power cut. Can not be a excuse these days. Credit/debit Card payment option was not working due to some technical issue. Had to shell out all cash from pocket.

There are too less staff to serve you, most of the time you may have to wait for almost half an hr to just order your stuff, then adding to it is the worst quantity I have ever had anywhere. We had order 2 chicken dishes and wasn't able to finish even 2 plates of rice with that. In fact when we asked that which dish will have the most gravy they said the one we had taken was having the most gravy, and secondly its quite overpriced for the standards they are maintaining there. When we went there we even had to call them personally to clean the table that too after almost 10min of waiting. The customer service is quite bad for a restaurant with such high food price. The 2 stars are just for the taste of the 2 items we had.

The food items were just awesome. We had ordered Dhakai Ghoranar Murgh Pulao with Egg Rezala and Chicken Bhuna Mini Thali. All of the food items were delicious. The egg rezala was a bit salty but anyways the other items managed to make us happy. Anyone wishing to try simple authentic Bengali dishes please visit Kasturi Restaurant. They have their outlets in Doverlane, New Market, Dumdum and Barrackpore. ❤️🥘 ₹800 will be sufficient for two people
