What an amazing place! Do a bit of prior learning and you’ll be glad you did. Worth the D150 entry. The museum holds a recreation of archeological finds in the area. This houses on the water part of the museum is based on houses from the bronze age. Think there’s been a fair bit of artistic licence but it’s truly incredible. The account from 4000 years ago is cool. A stop for every boat but interesting nonetheless, can be hard work to bypass the instagrammers 🤦🏻‍♀️

It’s a cool place, very impressive! At the bottom of the lake scientists found the remains of an ancient settlement, which is over 3 thousand years old, and it was decided to recreate it in its original form. It is very interesting to walk around such a village, looking into each house and seeing how people lived 3 thousand years ago. The water in the lake is so beautiful, green color, the atmosphere is very cozy and calm. The entrance costs 150 Macedonian denars (June 2022), next to the museum there is a campsite and a beach where the water is much cleaner than in Ohrid town.

Cool place on the water, best reachable by car, I walked from Ohrid which is doable but you got to walk on the road sometimes without side walk. Well constructed timber frame houses on poles and good narrator in the museum. Overall it was a splendid experience during a sunny day at the lake, in winter they close just before sunset and from the parking above you are able to witness the lost stunning spectacle when the sun slowly disappears behind the the Albanian mountains reflecting the light over the lake and coring the sky in all sorts of colors - just marvelous

Very interesting old settlement on water surrounded by beautiful lake. Everyone staying in Ohrid should visit this place

Cool place. You do not learn much as you would expect from a museum BUT it is totally worth it. The nature is incredible and you should also climb up the hill to the small Roman fortress to see the view from up there! I suggest you go there early in the morning so that you avoid crowds and experience the serenity of nature. Plus the road to the museum from Ohrid is really nice and by the lake!

It's interesting to visit but there is not much to do. Yes, there is a little exhibition with some information, then the village itself and then there are even ruins of the Roman fortress but it's all a bit empty and almost boring. The lake saves it all however. It's so beautiful that getting some more points where to see it is worth it.

If you like history and are fascinated easily by stuff like that - a good place to spend some time. But if you do not care that much, I think just a look from the parking lot is just ok. A little weird that they charge you more if you are a tourist than if you are a local. ➕ - Big parking lot - Not much people when we were visiting - Beautiful area - Fascinating concept - Cheap ticket ➖ - Very uncomfortable to walk on the bay because of loose planks - The people working there was not very smiley or friendly (not mean by any means, just very plain) - More expensive ticket for tourists (not that it was expensive just more expensive) - Nasty toilet

I did not go here during my first trip to Ohrid. Upon my return I found an incredible little gem that reminded me of a much more ancient time — like being in a completely different world. I really liked how the area was recreated to demonstrate what the area would have been like. Just an awesome visit overall!

We stopped here for a break on our long journey. It was totally worth it! The landscape in this park is in April absolutely lovely. The friendly employees gave us actively insight in English and the history is interesting to listen to. The rebuilding of the pre-ancient village looks pretty immersive. Would recommend to have a stop here too. if not for the museum, you can enjoy the little park and have a break.

A pier built in the Pestani region on Lake Ohrid, showing the Macedonian village culture. It is a village installation made of adobe and straw on a pier. The reason why the village is called a bone museum or bone bay is because there are animal bones and animal hides in some houses. Approximately 150 mkd per person is charged at the entrance. The lake view is incredible. About 20 minutes from Ohrid city.

Our Bay of Bones tour started off as a boat ride to get to the site. You could purchase drinks and snacks on the boat. The ride was smooth on the day we visited and we enjoyed the site seeing. When we got to the Bay of Bones we walked up a few stairs and entered the visitor’s center. There small display of the archeological pilings and other artifacts that lead to the building of the replica village. It was interesting but wouldn’t want to visit on a crowded day. Kids would enjoy these recreation of the buildings on stilts and the houses were nicely furnish with what the village may have looked like. A great on a nice day. Watch your step as you have stairs and uneven surfaces.

Nice museum to stop by but too less info regarding the museum itself. Located over the lake with crystal clear water. The entrance is 150 denars per person.

Nice place to visit with family. Old buildings on the water looks nice. Inside you can find a lot of equipment from the old times. Ticket cost 150 Macedonian denars for adults. You can buy ticket very fast if no people from cruise ship.

This is place is a strange destination to see considering it's history. The scene was great, with the lake and all, but we couldn't get in the houses part because the museum only accepts Macedonian denars, not even Euro, and there is no credit card option. So you should come prepared.

Interesting place to be. The museum is great and it offer variety of interesting things to explore. There is a great surrounding if you plan to chill out or just calm down and listen to the waves of the lake while having a coffee or an ice cold water.

Nice reconstruction of an 3000 year old village. You only need 30 minutes, stop while passing on your way to wherever. Good parking and access, although not disabled friendly.

During our incredible boat cruise with B & F Cruise - Ohrid Lake Boat Tours along the picturesque coast on Lake Ohrid, we visited the bay of bones museum. At first we thought this will be interesting, a museum full of bones... Yes, there was bones on display at this reconstructed village of stilt houses displaying Bronze & Iron Age items recovered from Lake Ohrid. The story goes they used bones from animal remains for tools during this time, and on display in the houses were these artefacts. There was a small entry fee of €1 and for divers it's actually possible to visit the underwater excavations in the flesh with Diving Center Amfora. The museum is situated on the coast, and to arrive by boat was quite special. We jumped off and visited the museum, but also took in the most magical views and impressed again by the waters and breathtaking views surrounding the museum.

An interesting re-creation of a lake village occupied during prehistoric times. That the settlement covered an area of over eight hectares is amazing in itself. There is a very small museum with an assortment of ceramic and stone artifacts, aside from the 'village'.

We stopped here as part of a boat trip for 30 minutes. Worth a see if you are in the area. Be careful with walking around the wooden flooring as it’s very uneven and plenty of gaps inbetween where you could lose anything you might drop

There’s plenty to see if you are interested in stuff from XII to VII century BC. There’s gazebos around the museum entry if you want to enjoy the view. Entry fee is 150 denars for a foreign visitor, 120 denars for home visitor, 60 denars for children.

Interesting little bay to see along Lake Ohrid. Ok as part of a bigger boat or car trip, but wouldn’t come from Ohrid just to see this unless part of your travels along the way.

The Bay of Bones is a bay in Ohrid Lake and an archeological site of prehistoric pile-dwelling on the peninsula and the Gradiste auto camp, near the city of Ohrid. I recommend it!

A reproduction of the Neolithic settlement that was once here and written about by non other than Herodotus himself. Well worth a visit to get an idea how people lived on the lake. They even kept horses and fed them in fish! By the way, these similar villages still exist in Thailand. Indonesia etc. they have a small museum that has some excellent Neolithic pottery etc

One of the most beautiful places to visit very near to the city of Ohrid. An ancient village on a platform over the water of lake Ohrid. There you can see how the people lived in their huts and their daily way of life. There are beds, cofins, stoves, baby swings and many more intresting objects. Also you can visit the dock and take of photos of the lake and the village! The ticket is very cheap!

Sadly this place closes very early in the day (at least for me 3PM is very early) which is why we couldn’t go inside. We looked at it from afar and it looked very interesting. Still, I believe it’s a nice place to visit especially if you can get in.

  • 5/5 Nataša B. 1 year ago on Google
Great Info Center with free toilets and a refreshment nook where you can buy cold and hot drinks. A diving center is within the site, as wel as a reconstructed Roman fort on the hilltop above it. You can actually get beginners scuba diving lessons there, for a fee not included in the ticket price. The Ohrid lake water is completely transparent here and looks like an ocean lagoon. It is worth coming just to see that. You can see big trout swimming under the surface. One important thing: the tickets are not sold at the parking site, you need to go down the stone path to the lower gate to buy them at the tickets booth. A single ticket is less than 5 eur.

Bay of the Bones is an authentic reconstruction of a part of the pile-dwelling settlement, dating back between 1200 and 700 BC. A Roman military fortification (Gradiste) has been reconstructed on the hill above the Bay of Bones simultaneously with constructing the pile-dwelling settlement and the Water Museum.

No ticket control, so basically you can enter for free, the wooden floor is in a very bad state, with nails all around, no guide nor information screens. All of the housing units are nearly identical and poorly equipped. The fortress is also pretty empty.
