Although smalller than St Sophia this is a prime example of Eastern Roman architecture and painting in the town and the whole of the Balkans. The frescoes inside are breathtakingly beautiful but photographs are strictly forbidden, I snapped a picture but the guy guarding the place made me delete it, probably wanted a bribe as I see plenty of pics from others here on google maps. This is a place not to be missed when in town regardless of your faith

The church was built in 1295, and is one of the oldest churches in the historic town of Ohrid in southwestern Macedonia. There is a holy spring (hagiasma) located southwest of the church and its Turkish name, Sulu Manastır (“Water Monastery”) reflects this. There are beautiful frescoes inside the church but unfortunately photographs are strictly prohibited

Although the building itself does not resemble a classic Orthodox church, it is worth stopping here for a while. The temple was built in 1295. Beautiful frescoes inside.

One of the best church of all my life. It’s a pure magic to be inside. The frescoes are brilliant and painted by two young masters. They signed it in 17 hidden places. The first place to visit in Ohrid.

This is an amazing church with very nice frescoes inside. The frescoes include images from the Passion and the Gospels, the life of the Virgin Mary, and the life of John the Baptist. Byzantine painters Michael and Eutychios signed their work at the church, making Holy Mother of God Peribleptos one of only four churches that preserves the signatures of these important artists. Built in 1295, the Holy Mother of God Peribleptos is one of the oldest churches in the historic town.

One of the most beautiful churches I have ever seen with an incredibly nice guide. The frescoes are still in very good state and are much more detailed than most I have seen. Thank you so much for teaching my mom and I about the church and its history. It was more than appreciated and will be remembered!

(Translated by Google) Beautiful church, dating back to 1295 with a unique fresco painting. The frescoes are the work of Michael and Eutychios. The church in the people is also known as St. Clement because the relics of St. Clement was transferred to this church after the Turks demolished the church of St. Panteleimon turned her into a mosque.

(Translated by Google) The ghost in the breast. I love Orthodox churches and old churches, this has made a huge impression on me which can not be described. Must see. Wonderful old frescos, beautiful church shape and, surprisingly, intimate atmosphere. For such views and impressions, it is worth to sleep in the heat. The downside is the lack of descriptions in English. (Original) Zapiera duch w piersi.

(Translated by Google) It is near the gate from which you enter the old city, turning left and up. It was a cathedral of the archbishops of Ohrid and all of Bulgaria from the time of the conversion of the Holy Sofia into a mosque until the appropriation of the local church by the Patriarchate of Constantinople in 1767. According to the donor inscription above the western entrance, it was built in 1295. In 1365 a chapel was built on the north side, dedicated to St. Gregory the Theologian. Later on, a second chapel dedicated to St. Nicholas was added to the south. The murals are the work of the famous painter Mikhail and Eutychius, both of whom have left their names - the first on the garment of St. Dimitar and the second on the garment of St. Procopius. They created the mural decoration in a number of churches in the western Bulgarian regions captured in 1282 by the Serbian King Milutin. The temple has several impressive compositions - "The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin", "Laying Christ in the Tomb", "The Last Supper", "The Lord's Prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane". After the relics of St. Clement from St. Pantaleimon Temple received her new name, St. Clement, and in 2002 the relics were returned. Another valuable monument is the wooden sculpture-relief of St. Kliment Ohridski from the thirteenth century here also housed an archbishop's library with parchment manuscripts from the 11th and 12th centuries, a small part reaching our time, unfortunately. In the courtyard of the church there is a gallery with an exhibition of icons that is worth a visit.

The frescos are impressive, but the collection of 13C religious icons in the small museum outside the church are truly fantastic and in a remarkable state of preservation. if there is one thing that must be seen in Ohrid it's these.

He wasn't joking- it was absolutely incredible!! Definitely worth the price. Highly recommend to all, even non religious. It's truly a piece of art. And the man working there was incredibly knowledgable and friendly :) thanks

The church of Virgin Perivleptos is probably one of the most beautiful and important surviving monumentss of the Byzantine Empire. Build in 1295, this cross in square planned church, was decorated with high quality frescoes from Eutychios and Michail Astrapas, as they have inscribed on the garments of several saints. The highly sophisticated iconographic program and the amazing architecture capture the eye of the visitor.
