The castle area is super huge and just amazing! Entrance fee is 3€ but of you are a group of 4 and more than only 2€ per person. There is a few coffee shops with terraces and some souvenir shops, prices like everywhere not higher. U can walk around the castle everywhere u want to. The view from every corner is just outstanding. Visited on June and it was not a lot of people so I can feel comfortable. Would definitely recommend to visit.

Access to the castle is unrestricted, you can walk around really freely. There are bars, restaurants and souvenir shops at the top. Also there are some guesthouses. The walk up to the castle is a difficult one, there’s is parking at the top so if you have access to a car it might be wise to drive up.

Great experience no tickets needed it’s free. Well preserved castle so much history. Great views of the city from the castle. You can drive all the way to the top plenty of parking just be careful the streets are narrow.

Easily accessible by car, parking right nearby, astonishing view, really admired the pavements and the walls as well the local houses inside. Small and coquettes restaurants inside with authentic cuisine. Dogs allowed, pet friendly!

The Castle of Berat is absolutely worth the visit. We went especially for the Castle to Berat! It is one of the biggest Castles that I have ever visited, and will take you at least 2-3 hours if you want to see everything. The price of the ticket was 300 LEK ( 2.5€ ). You can either climb or go by car up to the main enterance of the castle and park outside of it. The City of Berat is part of UNESCO and very very rich of history. Take the time and visit it, you will not regret it. Fun fact: It is the only castle in Albania that is still inhabited.

One of our favorite things we did while on vacation to Albania. The entire city is very charming with the way the homes line the hills. The castle was nice to walk around and explore. Highly recommend a visit.

We drove over an hour specifically for this place and it did not disappoint us. Beautiful site. Habitable ancient castle with narrow streets. Occupies top of the hill with strategic views on surroundings. Cozy inside. Below is an ancient village worth visiting too.

Historical place with beautiful views of Berat city and lovely handmade souvenir shops. The entrance is free of charge. It’s a bit of a climb it could take around 20-30min to reach Berat castle, but it’s totally worth it for the views. It’s also very interesting and beautiful place. There are toilets and rubbish bins around the place. The locals who still live up on the top of the castle are very inviting and friendly. Highly recommend to visit this place when visiting Berat.

It is not only castle but there is whole small village there. Lot of restaurants, small gift shops and beautiful view on the old and new parts of city. You can go up by car or walk. Entrance and parking is free. Don't miss this place in Berat.

Now, in June there aren't many tourist. This is very beautiful castle town. Entrance for children is free, for adults 300 lek. We find parking in down town, near river. Way to castle is built of stone blocks, and street are very slippery and steeply. You must be careful. There are almost 1-2km to entrance. You can go to entrance with car, but only 2 cars were there. It is very slippery. When you entrance, there are many homes, restaurants, bars. But nowhere toilet. The views are unforgettable and unreal. If you are in Albania you must stop here to see this piece of history. Many places in castle are ruins and dirty. It is unreal to walk around the castle town , where people lives many centuries ago, and where people still live. This town castle is live.

Very nice and large castle. It takes more or less 2h to visit all the spots. The entrance was free and the restaurants inside are not overpriced. Inside there are some horses for tourist walk but please avoid.. To arrive there you have to walk 20 minutes from Berat on a steep road under the sun so just remember to bring a bottle of water.

Amazing views over the city, one of Albania's many beautiful castles on top of a mountain, it's overall well preserved but in need of some maintenance here and there, many places to see inside the castle walls, coffee's, restaurants, souvenir shops and also small hotels or guest houses are available, you can also book guided tours in many languages. Definitely a must see when visiting the historical city of Berat

Beautiful castle the unique thing about this castle is that people still live there inside the castle area there is also old houses same style of the whole village and some nice restaurants shops super cool to see them caring the culture and the history until today ✨ the castle take about 1h for a complete tour under the flag there is a really beautiful view of the whole village. On the other side there is also a beautiful view of the other side of the village with a beautiful church from the 1300. the sunset view with the mountains in the background is insane and that is also what is unique about Albania in general. The toilet were closed don’t forget your water and snacks. To get there there is a hike from the river side where you can see the church all the way to the castle. Amon good map you can find the normal road to get to the castle.

Berat Castle is a fortress overlooking the town of Berat. It is one of the few castles with houses and residents living in it alongside restaurants, cafes and multiple historic sites. It has many Byzantine churches and ottoman mosques. The entry is free. It is essentially a town inside another town. It is a steep walk up from the town below to the Castle (but this portion is accessible by a car) and requires a bit of up and down walking in the castle. As such comfortable shoes are a must. But overall it is absolutely worth it because it offers stunning views from various vantage points in the Castle and historic treasures abound. I suggest setting aside a few hours to enjoy as many cultural sites as possible and time your visit to take in the sunset.

You can conquer it on foot or by car. A short walk past the castle and the ruins of the mosque will take you to the viewpoint, where you will have an amazing view! Be sure to treat yourself with a glass of fresh pomegranate.

Excellent location, very clean rooms, great welcoming hosts, great food breakfast and a la carte. As a whole, a very nice experience and the perfect place to start visiting Berat Castle! When we come back to Berat, this is the place where we will book our accommodation :).

The place is more than amazing, spending a day or 2 in this place wouldn't be enough for sure. The place is neat, organized, and well furnished with the old style of the old city. You are literally spending the day among the smell of the past in the castle. Can't say a lot about the rooms that is filled with everything and it's neat furniture and style, amazing. Owners and staff were friendly, but it was weird a bit to pay for every drink even a regular Tea 😄 but it's okay to me. Breakfast was amazing, view was amazing as well, everything was just perfect. Definitely gonna return and spend more nights in there.

It’s a free tour, which is already amazing! I highly recommend to go around 5-7pm, when the sun goes down and you can enjoy a nice sunset! Plus the hike up there, it’s pretty steep so if you do it under the heat, it’s tough! You can also go with the free local guided tour, they go up with you, walk you around the castle and show you a lot of spots: the mosque, the churches, the viewpoint and explain the whole story of the city from above. Highly recommend, it was very enjoyable

There are 2 ways to get in but I recommend the official one. You can go up to the castle with a car but the way is steep so keep that in mind. Parking is free. The entry ticket costs like 300 lek but it's worth it. Group discount available from 13 people I think. Optional to ask for a guide but I recommend it. The scenery is stunning and the place is very interesting. Our guide Tony was well spoken and showed us the most interesting places. I really loved it. You can really see the city from up there.

Impressive castle, impressive views. Beautiful buildings and homes within the walls. Nice to sit and enjoy a coffee and take in the ambience. I didn't eat there but was told by a local the restaurants do good 'home' food.

The castle walls and the houses inside have a historical structure. However, it is truly astonishing that ordinary people still live inside. There are cafes and restaurants inside. I also recommend you to visit the church inside. For those coming from the terminal, I do not recommend walking if the weather is rainy. Because the cobblestones in the side street become wet and slippery.

this castle is very beautiful. An interweaving of antiquity, Byzantine and Ottoman architecture. Inside the castle you can find pieces of masterpieces from history, but unfortunately also some bad restoration or forgetting of the Monuments. If you enter here, you will surely have a good time. You can visit many attractions, buy some authentic local antiques as a beautiful souvenir from Berat, and enjoy the fantastic traditional food inside the castle!

I recommend everyone to visit this place at least twice. The castle is very old also you can buy few old souvenirs from the shops down road of castle. There are restaurants inside that give you opportunity to eat while enjoy the surroundings and no to forget there are some Albanian traditional dishes. NOTE: you can escape to difficult road till castle by using a car. (Difficult I mean you have to climb a road 30 <•).

It's an incredible place, when I first saw it, I thought it was a normal archeologycal castle but there is a city inside, restaurants with typical food, there are three different routes you can follow to discover it, but I strongly recommend to rent the audio guide, otherwise I think you would miss important information, it has an amazing view from the city, the best of everything, it's free

Berat Castle (Albanian: Kalaja e Beratit), also referred to as the Citadel of Berat and castle quarter, is a fortress overlooking the town of Berat, Albania. It dates mainly from the 13th century and contains many Byzantine churches in the area and Ottoman mosques.[1] It is built on a rocky hill on the left bank of the river Osum and is accessible only from the south. It is situated at an elevation of 214 metres. Wikipedia

Set aside three to four hours as it's a whole village within the castle walls including hotels, restaurants and cafes. It's a steep climb up a cobbled road to reach the castle but doable for the reasonably fit. You can drive up or get a taxi as there is car parking up there. The views from the top are spectacular.

This was an interesting castle for us. We didn't really know what to expect. The whole area is a UNESCO site and we can see why. The castle is like a village that took us a few hours to explore. It can be a little dangerous if you have little ones. There are a lot of drop offs and areas that you want to be cautious with. But we loved it and it is one of my favorite castles. There are air bnbs that you can stay in the castle as well.

Berta Castle stands as a picturesque attraction, nestled in the landscape with a charm that transports visitors to another era. The architectural beauty and historical significance are undeniable. However, the challenge lies in reaching this enchanting destination without a car from the city center. The journey to Berta Castle on foot is a considerable undertaking, presenting a formidable climb. The absence of convenient public transportation options adds to the difficulty. While the ascent may be strenuous, the reward at the end – the captivating views and the castle's allure – makes the effort worthwhile for those with a penchant for exploration and a willingness to embrace a more challenging approach. Consideration for alternative transportation or adequate preparation for the trek is advisable for those seeking to immerse themselves in the rich history and scenic surroundings of Berta Castle.

Definitely worth a visit: breathtaking views over the city, the river and the surrounding mountains. The territory of the castle is quite big and we all enjoyed our walk along the ancient walls. Next to the Church of St. George there was a man selling mandarins, peeled pomegranate, cranberries, apples, honey and dried figs. The price was nice. And the man was even nicer - he had bottles with water to wash the apples for us!

The rooms were clean, warm, well decorated. One of the best places to stay. The food was delicious too and the staff were very friendly. Moreover it is located inside the castle, giving you a touch of the past. You can have a small party too, including a karaoke. Highly recommended

I love the character of this place, but they were quite insistent that they didn't have our reservation and they had only a big party of motorcyclists. They put us in a property through a gate, which may have been a neighboring property? Once we were there, the room had a lot of character and the bathroom was great! Unfortunately, there were mosquitoes, so we couldn't let a cool breeze in and the A/C didn't have enough power for the room

Had a great night here at a great price- the restoration of the old Ottoman building is really good and the family room we were in was really warm and clean with the best shower room. Great views over the river, and a really good breakfast, inc the coffee, made to order eggs and fresh herb scones. It is on the main road in/out Berat (as is the White House) so will have road noise/fumes- but it is handy. If you stay, book in advance food in Lilli's, which is a 60sec walk.

We reserved at this hotel but they decided it was better for us their neighboor without any notice. The place to be honest was lovely but while playing my kids found a 2 meters deep shadoof completely uncoverd in the middle of the living room. There was no toilet paper in both our rooms and not to talk about the breakfast. You have to wake up early if you wish to find smth decent to eat. There were only left a couple of crepes for my 3 boys and instead of preparing some they blamed adult guests for eating too much. Totally unacceptable in my opinion. Worst hotel ever

Stayed overnight and cannot praise this place enough! Easy parking, large and clean rooms, attentive staff. Card payments are welcome unlike so many places in Albania. There was a power-cut in the morning in the entire city, but staff made everything possible to make even our departure a pleasant one with coffee and breakfast. You would just get shrugged shoulders elsewhere in Europe if there was no electricity!

The ruins of the castle are free to enter and there are some caffes around. Definetly a go to spot for spectacular views of Berat and the history preserved within theese ancient walls. It was fun exploring the old streets. There is free parking next to the castle gates but the climb there by car is Very steep if you access it from the river side. It is also accessible form the north. Go explore!

A must visit place in Berat. The views form the wals are breathtaking and the old structure give a unique atmosphere. We climbed to the castle from the steep route starting from a staircase between the two bridges and passing through the st. Michael church (a nice place to stop for catching breath). I recommend taking this rout afternoon when the clif is already mostly in the shade.

When you visit the castle be sure to walk around the cobblestone stoned streets to meet the locals. Ive included a few photos a beautiful lady who spends her days knitting baby clothes. She is very welcoming and in need of our support

It’s one of many citadels on the hill surrounded by walls, typical to this region. The walks and sights are really nice, but apart from a few small churches (most are closed) and a lovely icon museum there’s not much to see here. I am not sure sure if all this is worth the rather steep climb - I’d say yes, but if the weather is good, in the morning or in the evening :)
