Must
see
if
you
are
in
the
area.
Another
iconic
stone
bridge
in
the
area.
You
can
relax
there,
by
the
Vikos
river,
take
photos
of
the
beautiful
town
of
Konitsa.
The
path
to
the
monastery
is
easy
and
totally
recommended.
A
few
words
about
the
bridge:
The
Stone
Bridge
of
Konitsa
was
built
in
1869
(with
repairs
due
to
partial
collapse
in
1870-1871)
by
a
workshop
of
50
craftsmen
headed
by
Zyoga
Frontzo,
a
master
builder
from
Pyrsogianni,
an
illiterate
folk
craftsman.
What
is
certain,
however,
is
that
the
master
builder
of
the
Konitsa
bridge
was
the
one
who
had
built
the
Plaka
bridge
3
years
earlier.
It
was
built
with
donations
from
the
inhabitants
of
the
city
and
mainly
from
the
banker
of
Ioannina
Ioannis
Z.
Loulis,
originally
from
Aetorrachi
(Kortortsi)
of
Katsanochorion,
who
allocated
about
half
of
the
120,000
grosis
(a
very
large
amount
for
era)
that
its
construction
cost.
In
the
same
place
used
to
stand,
in
1823,
a
wooden
bridge,
which,
however,
could
not
withstand
the
river's
force
and
was
destroyed
very
soon.
The
current
stone
bridge
was
bombed
in
1913
by
the
Ottoman
Tsavit
Pasha,
who
thus
tried
to
stop
the
advance
of
the
Greek
troops.
However,
the
cannon
shots
of
the
Turkish
Pasha
did
not
find
a
target
and
so
the
bridge
remained
upright
in
its
place.
