Enjoyed our 3 days 2 nites stay. The personal touches provided by all the staff there was superb. Very easy check in and checkout. The breakfast was good with a good selection of both local and international cuisine. The beach is beautiful. Our villa was spacious. Stayed in the deluxe villa.

Paradise Mismanaged: Bungaraya Island Resort - A Harsh Reality Check They promise 5-star luxury under "European management," but the reality falls painfully short. Here’s the unvarnished truth about my stay at Bungaraya Island Resort: They promise 5-star luxury under "European management," but the reality falls painfully short. Here’s the unvarnished truth about my stay at Bungaraya Island Resort: 🌴 The Setting: Undeniably breathtaking. A tropical paradise straight out of a postcard, with lush greenery and pristine beaches. But... that’s where the magic ends. 🛖 The Villas: The floors creak with every step, and the bathroom hygiene? Far from 5-star standards. A shocking disappointment for the price tag. ☕ The Breakfast Experience: With just 4-5 guests, you'd think service would be swift. Instead, a cup of coffee takes 15-20 minutes to arrive (if it arrives hot, count your blessings). And the food? Cold, unappetizing, and utterly unworthy of the setting. 🍴 Dining Options: Two restaurants on-site, yet the menus are nearly identical. No variety, no creativity — it feels like you’re eating the same uninspired meal no matter where you go. 🐟 Unbelievable Dining Missteps: The absurdity reaches its peak in the Chinese restaurant. They don’t have fish sauce — an essential ingredient — yet the other restaurant, just 100 meters away, does. And guess what? They can’t bring it over. You’re staying on the same property, eating at their restaurants, but they refuse to solve such a simple problem. How does that even make sense? 📶 The Internet Fiasco: Internet access requires a portable router. Sounds manageable, right? Except the router came with a broken charging cable, then the router itself stopped working. On the last day, it was replaced — twice. It’s 2025; reliable Wi-Fi in a luxury resort shouldn’t be this complicated. 🍸 Cocktails & Drinks: With cocktail prices rivaling top-tier bars, you'd expect perfection. Instead, it feels like the staff have neither tasted nor seen a proper drink in their lives. What’s served is a far cry from what’s on the menu. 🤯 The Verdict: This could’ve been paradise, but it’s a paradise plagued by terrible management and lackluster service. The natural beauty of the location deserves so much better. For now, the resort earns a 2/10 — all thanks to its scenery. 📢 For the Owners: Draw your own conclusions, but if it were up to me, I’d fire the management team without hesitation. They’re ruining what could be an extraordinary destination. Would I recommend it? Only if you’re prepared to endure endless service failures, nonsensical policies, and a complete lack of attention to detail — all for the sake of a beautiful backdrop.

Very special and magical place - think nature resort in the middle of the jungle with a supreme private sand beach combined with high-end luxury. The staff are very attentive and kind. There are a lot of activities to do, including forest treks and snorkeling. Food is good. Highly recommend and would definitely come back.

ARRIVAL/LEAVE: You can only get to the hotel by boat. There is no other option. This means that if there is some rain or wind the local boatsmen get to decide if you’re able to go the hotel or not. We were stuck at the harbour for hours after long flights without being offered any drinks or food. A welcome drink and a cold tower for this price would be the minimum. The receptionist & the captain did not give us any information upon asking when we can expect to leave, we had to go to other hotel’s harbour to ask when they expect the weather to change. They told us almost exactly. They make you pay the full amount of your stay BEFORE even entering the boat or telling you that you might not be able to go to the resort until the next day. Upon arriving we had issues with the room (the room we booked was not available due to maintenance (there was a lot of maintenance btw and most of the facilities were closed including the canopy walk), they put us in a different room without telling us. Once noticing their mistake, we had a very uncomfortable and long discussion with management. During this discussion they did not offer any acceptable compensation for their mistake, they wanted to make us pay extra to put us in another room - even though this was their mistake and the hotel was practically empty. STAFF: Local staff was very kind, I’d like to emphasize the help of Farhan and Reynaldo especially. The only reason we think the hotel should not be closed is because the staff is extremely kind -excluding the management. The management is money oriented, not customer oriented failing to resolve arising problems without causing conflicts. BEACH: The beach looks nice, but I would not advise you to spend time there since you’ll get attacked by sand flies. We spent 2 days on the beach and were covered in bites after (see pictures). They’re extremely itchy and last for 14-20 days. The itching ruined our Borneo rainforest trip after and we had to visit the pharmacies repeatedly to help with the itch. We were not informed about this by management or staff, which is a grave mistake, since they know about this issue, they even have bug repellents around the beach of which we were informed only AFTER we were covered in bites ( the repellents don’t work very well btw) FOOD: We only ate at the Asian restaurant - food is not bad but not great either. Rather expensive. ROOM: Rooms are ok, housekeping leaves you gift every night which is a nice touch. SPA: Bamboo massage was good, would recommend.

More than excellent service in this paradise on Earth. Staff is engaged 150%, nature is wonderfull. After 58 years never seen better house reef for snorkeling. Other part of beach is white send only (for swimmers). They even have 3 buffalo to help them to collect big trees from the beach.

Exceeded our expectations. From the boat ride over, being greeted on the pier by the manager and staff, the room, the service, the food, the facilities and the atmosphere, everything was perfect. We were upgraded to the treehouse villa which is brilliantly located in very private and peaceful surroundings, with an outdoor jacuzzi, very large room and beautiful bathroom. Tried both restaurants and both delivered very delicious food. Beautiful and fun zipline with super friendly and knowledgeable guides. Sadly the canopy walk was closed due to damage. The pool is stunning as is the beach and water. Service was friendly, professional and very attentive. We also loved the story behind the resort. Wished we could have stayed longer.
