Baolis were a sacred spaces and were always revered. There lies a stepwell in one of the most frequented dargah of Delhi, the dargah of Hazrat Nizamuddin. It is said that when Tughlaq (Ghiyas-Ud-Din) was building his palace (Tughlaqabad Fort), this baoli was being constructed the same time by the same labourers. They used to work at the baoli with the help of the lamps in the night. When Tughlaq got to know of this, he imposed heavy taxes on oil so that the lamps could not be lit causing the work at the baoli stop. But it is said that it was the miracle of Hazarat Nizamuddin that the lamps were lit with water and the baoli could be built. So the stepwell is considered very sacred. You still see pilgrims using the water which is not very clean though. To visit it, ask the locals nearby the dargah and they will be happy to help.

The Baoli behind the Hazarat Nizamuddin Dargah was restored several times and now in a very good condition. The entrance is a narrow sub-door in a larger door and the access toad is from the Subz Burj that is in the round-about outside the Humayun Tomb having a blue dome. The entrance is lined and crowded with beggars who almost block the entrance. ♿ Accessibility Features: No=Ramp access. Yes=A wheelchair-accessible Entrance. Nizamuddin Dargah is surrounded by modern buildings ruining the value of this monument with encroachment. Flowers, fragrance stick and other offerings are sold all around till the entrance of Dargah, even inside it which should not be the case. Sellers should be placed at sone designated place to make Dargah more visible from outside. The place has proximity to other old tombs and hence should be developed as a complete complex giving value and saving each one.

Hazrat Nizamuddin ki Baoli, also known as Nizamuddin Baoli, is a 123 by 53 ft (37 m × 16 m) stepwell located near the Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah in New Delhi, India. It is about 800 years old. It was built by Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya during the reign of Ghiyasuddin Tughlaq and is maintained by the Aga Khan Trust for Culture. Hazrat Nizamuddin ki Baoli was built by Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya himself at the same time when Ghiyasuddin Tughlaq was building his fort at Tughlaqabad. The laborers work on the fort during the day and work in the baoli at night. It is said that when the Sultan had stopped the supply of oil for the construction, Nizamuddin Auliya cursed him and said Hanuj Delhi Door Ast. After that Nizamuddin Auliya used his miracle and converted water into oil.

Timings Timings Open 24 Hours (Open All Days) Nearest Metro Station Nizamuddin (Pink Line) The Hazrat Nizamuddin ki Baoll is one of the oldest surviving baolis (stepwells) in the city. Built around 700 years ago by the mystic and saint Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya, its waters are reputed to possess miraculous healing powers. The circular tank at its centre receives constant supply of water from a natural spring within it. Protected by the Archaeological Survey of India, the baoli is a hub of various religious and social activities.

Legendary religious destination with an ancient history. The food joints serve excellent Muhghalia delicacies till late at night, the people are warm and very hospitalble. Sanitation at the place needs great attention. But there's no use bothering about it because the local administration, i.e. the MCD is literally the world's most corrupt department, Google it.
