बारा मोटांची विहीर, लिंब is an absolute gem nestled in the heart of nature. The architecture of the vihir is a testament to the rich cultural heritage of the region. The intricate carvings and attention to detail were truly remarkable. I couldn't help but marvel at the craftsmanship that went into creating such a masterpiece. I highly recommend visiting बारा मोटांची विहीर, लिंब to anyone seeking a peaceful retreat in the lap of nature. Whether you're a history enthusiast, a nature lover, or simply looking for a serene getaway, this place has something to offer everyone. It truly deserves its reputation as a must-visit destination.

This place is very unique and a must visit. It was built in the 17th century using stone and traditional lime. Construction quality is very good as it's intact for working after more than 300 years. It was basically built to water the Mango orchard nearby. 12 moth (leather vessel used to pull water out) which is pulled out with the help of Bullock 🐂🐂. You have a stage on top where the leader can speak to the public. Also it has a secret chamber which cannot be seen from outside as it's underground. Secret meetings used to happen here. That room has options to hold mashal (fire torch) and nice sculpture but the meaning of those is out of guessing. Overall it was a nice experience to visit such a historic and useful architecture made to water mango orchards.

Historical place. It is a sign of architectural excellence from the 17th century. Tickets are not required. The road to this place is too narrow, which makes accessibility difficult. There was trash on the ground, indicating that cleanliness is not maintained properly

Amazing architecture. It left me in awe to see how it was built almost 300+ years ago and still standing proudly. But unfortunately, completely unmanaged now. Many pipes and few brick work added by locals to fetch water. It hurts.

Grand and Historic well. Structurally well built having arrangements for the king to sit and meet the subjects. It also has a room at the midlevel meant for the king to enjoy leisurely time.

The entire structure of the stepwell is made of black stone. [1] With its 12 moats, it was meant to be a water source to the surrounding farms. It was also utilized to relieve the overflow of water during monsoon times. From the top, visitors can see a few tiny walls and water channels. Various old statues and historical structures are found in this well. Mahal is also situated there[2]

Nice place to visit. Old architecture in good condition. It isn’t managed well enough though and should be preserved for future generations. To reach - better option is to go from Nagewadi village. Road is single and not wide enough but in good condition.

This is historic place but when we visited the place we found local villagers are swimming in this well. Cleanliness is not maintained. Local Guide is available but he is not Govt. approved. Villagers should put efforts to restore and preserve this place to attract more tourists. You can get pure turmeric from villagers as it is produced there.

This is a hidden gem. You should definitely take your kids to this place. This place shows you how rich the design and infrastructure was in old times. From the highway it will take 15 minutes only to reach this place. The place is well maintained and there are not many visitors.

Amazing architecture combined with fantastic views and historic heritage makes this place a must visit destination. Constructed somewhere around 1741-46 by Sau. Virubai Bhosale, the well is 110 feet deep, 50 feet wide and octagonal in shape and looks like dugout shivling from the top. It has 12 moats which were used to draw water meant for irrigation of orchards surrounding the well

I visited this place on the way to kaas pathar (satara) with my friends. It's an ancient water well constructed in Shivkalin era. It is said to be 100 feet deep. It's in the 'Limb' village which is around 17km from satara. Must visit if you are in satara city. Some nearby villagers have arrangements like snacks, Lunch etc.

Architecture marvel of utility public well of 1640s..🚩🚩🚩 While travelling on Pune-Bangaluru highway, if you can spare 2 hours; this is a place worth visiting. Maharashtrian version of Rani-ki-Vav. Those interested in ancient water management systems & architecture must visit. Mandatory for those who are proud of Maratha history. Many unknown stories will unfold. Local guides are available. Worth taking services of them to encourage local tourism. A nominal fee of Rs.10/- per person is there. No eateries. But Sugarcane juice/soft drinks stalls available. It is a historical place and hence needs to be maintained properly. Rs 10 is collected as entry fee but no proper maintenance by the owner.

One of the great historical places to visit near Satara. Guided tour is a must to understand history and detailed information. Guide is available locally. Very friendly and knowledgeable. You can buy local produce as well like turmeric, organic jaggery, pickles etc. Not so famous place but must visit for people who are interested in history or otherwise too. Just 2 km from Pune Banglore highway.

Have you ever seen a palace inside a stepwell? Baramotichi Vihir in satara  is one such beautiful piece of Maratha architecture. It is a stepwell located in the Limb village near Satara, which is 110 feet deep, 50 feet wide and has a palace in the centre.I have always loved exploring ancient Indian architecture. And I particularly love the late Maratha style of architecture. I found Baramotichi vihir (बारा मोटेची विहीर), just when I was wondering why aren’t there any elaborate wells in Maharashtra like they have in Gujarat and Rajasthan. And soon I found this one which is perhaps the only stepwell now left in Maharashtra.

Situated in village Limb of Satara district this is something similar to a stepwall, however it is quite astonishing. It is built by Maharani Veerubai who was the wife of Shahu Maharaj. This place is situated in a remote location with very less crowd.

2nd time visit. A wonderfully built step well. Was able to tour it the last time around but not this time as the well is no longer maintained (due to COVID-19 I believe). There is garbage in the water🙄, lots of stagnant water and mosquitoes and other insects. The surroundings are peaceful, however.

A historical place dating back to the era of Ch. Shivaji Maharaj! It resembles the step wells of Gujrat. Legends say that there is a escape route from the fort Ajinkyatara to this place.

It's a historical place, built couple of centuries ago. The Well had 15 Places from where water could be Pulled out. But out of those 15 only 12 were operational at any given time. So it is called as 12मोत्ताची5 vihir, means 12 pulling stations.
