Interesting site with some well preserved mosaics, an enormous (I mean really huge) forum, amphitheatre. Good information all around, friendly staff and also a great museum. Entrance was 6 Euro per person but cheaper for students, young people etc. In May, it looked gorgeous with wildflowers all over 😍

Great experience. The entire archeological site of Philippi is well worth the trip. Loved walking along the via Egnatia, thinking about Paul & Silas' visit and their boldness in bringing the gospel to Europe. The whole site is accessible, inexpensive, and includes a lovely place to rest & purchase reasonably priced refreshments when you've completed your viewing.

Take a bottle of water inside and a hat if you visit the place during the summer. I gave 4 stars because of 2 reasons: 1. First we arrived in Philippi village after Google Maps photos of Archelogical Site. The site in NOT in Philippi, is at about 9 km in a village called Kinides. Why? Brcause the photos of ancient theatre are present in Philippi village. Those photos are misleading and should be removed. 2. The Archelogical Site has 2 entrances at 2,6km distance. It is not speciffied. We arrived in a small parking were you have to climb a lot (not suited if you have walking problems), and enter through the museum. And then walk a lot to the site. Our friends arrived at the other entrance, where is a big parking and you enter easier in the site. The site is big, the theatre was preparing for performance which I appreciated. You visit a Forum and a Basilica and read a few things about the history of the place that goes back until 40 BC with some clues that the place was lived since prehistoric ages. At the main entrance (with a big parking) you'll find: the coffee and the souvenir shops which are a nice stop under the shadow of the trees. You can have a Frappe or an ice cream in a pleaseant place or buy some nice stuff to remember your visit.

One of the most important ancient theaters in Northern Greece. The place deserves 5stars, but the local Municipality and the responsible officials of the greek Ministry of culture are practically absent from it. Nevertheless, if you are to watch a theaters act, take a pillow or something to sit on. I saw three ancient Theatre acts and they were marvelous!

Acoustic was great. Kids entry is free and adult 6 euro. There are enough parking spots at the entrance. Also there is a restaurant to cool down after the visit.

Extremely important and remarkable monument. Apostole Paul establish here the first Orthodox Christian Church of Europe (A.D. 49 or 50). The most important monuments on the site: The prison of Apostole Paul, The walls and the acropolis, The theatre, Agora (Forum), Palaestra, Basilica A, B &. C, Octagonal Church. UNESCO's Worid Heritage List.

The stuff there was very kind. And the place is really incredible. But the signboards are just a few a you feel need from more information. In the entrance also there wasn't leaflets in English.

The whole Philippi site is amazing. A good three hours, with cooling stop at small but interesting museum. The gold chaplet quite amazing, plus the neolithic artifax, jars etc, from 4000+BC. The Roman forum and octogon basilica remarkable. Shady simple cafe and loos did the trick too.

Amazing historical place. If anywhere near, definitely worth a visit. If you're in a camper, there are places to park overnight.

Absolutely breathtakingly amazing. To think we can go explore something this old - and walk the excavated ruins in front of the arena. Incredible experience. Definitely recommend. Be sure to see Paul's cell!

One of the most significant archaeological site in Northern Greece and definitely a must visit. At close proximity to Kavala and about 150km from Thessaloniki. Both biblical and classic interest, ideal for a full day tour. Great museum and friendly guides.

Nice experience to see the sings of the first Christian spreading in Europe. This is where Lydia was the first Christian converted in Europe ( Acts 16:14). And then there is the Prison where St. Paul and Silas were imprisoned. ( Acts 16:16-40)
